We attended a Screening of the Film with Cahill and Pitt earlier this week. More on that here.
Fox Searchlight release I ORIGINS on Friday, July 25, 2014 in Toronto and Vancouver.
Director/Writer Mike Cahill made a huge splash on the Indie scene in 2011 with low-budget Sci-Fi/Drama Another Earth. He’s back with a strong effort this time around, I Origins, starring two of his Muses – Brit Marling (whom also starred in his feature debut) and someone he calls “the greatest Actor of his generation”, Michael Pitt.
Although Pitt certainly is no stranger to Toronto, recently filming Hannibal here locally and also having visited for TIFF, Fans were delighted to see him and Cahill at a special screening of their Film, on which Pitt also served as Executive Producer, tonight at Varsity Cinemas. Sporting a Björk T-Shirt and smoking an electronic cigarette, Pitt always has been about the Art and tells the Audience at a Q&A following the Movie, that he prefers to work with Artists and jokingly he might need a couch to crash on soon.
The Sci-Fi/Drama laced with elements of romance, follows a Molecular Biologist (Pitt) whose study of the human eye may change the way we look at our scientific and spiritual beliefs. Odd, sweet and at every turn unpredictable, Cahill once again brings a unique voice to contemporary Film – a bit of a hodgepodge approach which somehow blends beautifully together. “If you can take one thing away from this Movie”, Cahill ponders, “It would be to not be so afraid of death.”.
Watch a Clip from the Q&A tonight, hosted by Richard Crouse below. Here Pitt is asked about choosing love over money in his careful career choices.

VVS Films, Touchwood PR and Mr. Will Wong want to give Readers a chance to see Arbitrage next week – Wednesday, September 26, 2012 at Varisty Cinemas. Richard Gere is featured here in easily his best performance in years, while a solid Support Cast also are garnering tons of Awards buzz including Susan Sarandon, Nate Parker and Brit Marling.
Nicholas Jarecki’s directorial debut is a taut and alluring suspense thriller about love, loyalty, and high finance. When we first meet New York hedge-fund magnate Robert Miller (Richard Gere) on the eve of his 60th birthday, he appears the very portrait of success in American business and family life. But behind the gilded walls of his mansion, Miller is in over his head, desperately trying to complete the sale of his trading empire to a major bank before the depths of his fraud are revealed. Struggling to conceal his duplicity from loyal wife Ellen (Susan Sarandon) and brilliant daughter and heir-apparent Brooke (Brit Marling), Miller‘s also balancing an affair with French art-dealer Julie Côte (Laetitia Casta). Just as he’s about to unload his troubled empire, an unexpected bloody error forces him to juggle family, business, and crime with the aid of Jimmy Grant (Nate Parker), a face from Miller’s past. One wrong turn ignites the suspicions of NYPD Detective Michael Bryer (Tim Roth), who will stop at nothing in his pursuits. Running on borrowed time, Miller is forced to confront the limits of even his own moral duplicity. Will he make it out before the bubble bursts?
