SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY tells the competition, landing at the top spot this weekend at the Box Office with $92.6 million Friday to Sunday. The Disney release plays in 4,381 theatres this U.S. Memorial Day weekend. While Critics were lukewarm on it giving it 71% on the Tomatometer, it maintains its standing with Audiences getting an A- CinemaScore. This places this installment in the Franchise as the fifth-highest opening for a Star Wars Film. The top spot still belongs to 2015’s The Force Awakens with $247 million.
In second is DEADPOOL 2 with $41.2 million from 4,349 theatres for a two-week tally of $216 million for 20th Century Fox.
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR finds itself in third with $15.3 million in its fifth week, a total $624 million grossed to-date for Marvel/Disney.
BOOK CLUB is in fourth with $9.6 million, by no means disgraced considering the company it is in for Paramount Pictures, a total $34.6 million in two weeks.
LIFE OF THE PARTY is in fifth for Warner Bros. with $4.9 million, a total $40.2 million.
RBG rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.2 million from 415 theatres for Mongrel Media/Magnolia Pictures, a four week total of $5.7 million.
DEADPOOL 2 is v. much alive! The latest Marvel entry takes top spot in its opening with an outstanding $132.1 million from 4,349 theatres in North America for 20th Century Fox. It gets 84% on the Tomatometer and an A CinemaScore from Audiences. Its Predecessor set a record for highest R-rated opening ever for a Film with $132.4 million and this one falls just shy. Numbers still are yet to be finalized.
Slipping to second is AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR with a healthy $28.2 million for Marvel/Disney. Over four weeks it has grossed $598 million domestically.
BOOK CLUB opens in third with $13.4 million for Paramount Pictures, playing in 2,781 theatres. It gets 59% on the Tomatometer and an A- CinemaScore.
LIFE OF THE PARTY tallies in fourth spot with $7.8 million for Warner Bros., a two-week total of $30.9 million.
SHOW DOGS opens in sixth spot with $5.3 million from 3,145 theatres for eOne Films/Global Road. It gets 26% on the Tomatometer, but a great A- CinemaScore.
Rounding-out the Top Ten is Ruth Ginsburg Documentary RBG with $1.2 million.
In its third week out, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR still is showing no signs of stopping as it takes the top of the Box Office yet again with $60 million from 4,474 theatres across North America for Disney/Marvel. It has made $546 million thus far in its run, the second-fastest rise of all time to the the half-billion mark.
LIFE OF THE PARTY debuts in second with $17.4 million for Warner Bros. from 3,656 theatres. The Melissa McCarthy-starring Comedy gets 41% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
BREAKING IN opens in third with $14.4 million from 2,537 theatres for Universal Pictures. The Thriller starring Gabrielle Union, gets 29% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
A QUIET PLACE finds itself in fifth with $6.1 million for Paramount Pictures. Over six weeks, it has made $169 million domestically.
TULLY is in eighth with $2.3 million for Universal Pictures/Focus Features, a total $7.2 million made over two weeks for the Jason Reitman Film.
BLOCKERS is at the bottom of the Top Ten with $1.05 million for Universal Pictures, a tally of $58 million over six weeks.
In its second week out, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR holds the lead with $115 million from 4,474 theatres for Marvel/Disney, a total of $453 million grossed domestically thus far in its run.
Opening in second is the Remake OVERBOARD starring Eugenio Derbez and Anna Faris, with $13.1 million from 1,623 theatres for MGM Pictures. It gets 28% on the Tomatometer but a great A- CinemaScore. It has yet to get a Canadian release.
A QUIET PLACE continues to show staying power in third with $7.4 million for Paramount Pictures, a total $159 million grossed in four weeks.
Jason Reitman‘s TULLY opens in sixth with $3.5 million for Universal Pictures/Focus Features from 1,353 theatres. The Drama starring Charlize Theron and Canadian Actress Mackenzie Davis, gets a strong 89% on the Tomatometer.
BAD SAMARITAN debuts in ninth for Electric Entertainment with $1.7 million from 2,007 theatres. It gets 59% on the Tomatometer and a B- CinemaScore.
SUPER TROOPERS 2 rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.7 million in its third week, a total $25 million made in these parts for Fox Searchlight.
Not that there ever was a doubt about it! AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR is en route to a $237 million opening for Disney/Marvel, from 4,475 theatres, pegging it as second-highest all-time opening right in behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens. It gets 84% on the Tomatometer from Critics and an A CinemaScore which should help continue spreading word of mouth in coming weeks. Expect it to all about Avengers these next few weeks.
A v. distant second is A QUIET PLACE with $10 million from 4,101 theatres for Paramount Pictures. Overall it has made $147.6 million over four weeks domestically.
In third is I FEEL PRETTY with $7.9 million for STX Entertainment/eOne Films, a two-week tally of $29.3 million.
RAMPAGE slips to fourth spot with $$6.8 million, a three week total of $77.6 million for Warner Bros.
SUPER TROOPERS 2 in its second week earns $3.2 million for Fox Searchlight, a two-week gross of $21.7 million.
TRAFFIK rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.7 million, a total $6.8 million earned over two weeks for Lionsgate Films. The Film doesn’t have a Canadian release.
