In what has become known as an annual Cavalcade of Urban Music Stars, Drake presented Toronto the fifth annual OVO Festival at Molson Amphitheatre this weekend, timed together with Caribana (Scotiabank Toronto Caribbean Carnival).  Once again, Toronto’s Homeboy did not disappoint, unveiling a surprise list of Performers including Lauryn Hill, J. Cole, Tinashe, DJ Khaled, Trey Songz, 50 Cent & G-Unit and of course the biggest Jawdropper of all, Usher!  And we were among the first to confirm with our eyes that Usher was in fact here, rushing in and out of his Yorkville Hotel earlier today with his Entourage.  Outkast returned to the stage to headline the first night of the Festival Sunday.

Drake zipped through 40 songs from his three-album Discography, and even brought his proud Mom, Sandi Graham, on-stage at one point.  He confirmed his plan to proceed work on his next Album in Toronto after touring with Lil Wayne.

Although he v. much was focused on work today, which left several Fans waiting outside his Residence hoping for a little acknowledgment frustrated, the multi-talented Magnate delivered his best foot forward leaving OVO Festival Goers completely satiated!

Others in town including NBA Star Kevin Durant, Justin Bieber‘s Manager Scooter Braun and several more came out to support the Show tonight.

The most giving of all Performers to Fans had to be Usher who surprised just about everyone waiting outside his Hotel, taking a Photo with anyone who asked. Believe me, this is an absolute rarity for the Megastar as I have counted multiple failed attempts to get that coveted Photo with him.  But this time I succeeded!  His is now prepping the release of his eight Studio Disc, Everything You Can Imagine!

Based on the popular ’80s TV Series, we’re all excited to see THE EQUALIZER! In this new Trailer we see Denzel Washington at his icy bad-ass best and Chloë  Moretz unlike anything we’ve ever seen her in before!

Official Synopsis:
In The Equalizer, Denzel Washington plays McCall, a man who believes he has put his mysterious past behind him and dedicated himself to beginning a new, quiet life. But when McCall meets Teri (Chloë Grace Moretz), a young girl under the control of ultra-violent Russian gangsters, he can’t stand idly by — he has to help her. Armed with hidden skills that allow him to serve vengeance against anyone who would brutalize the helpless, McCall comes out of his self-imposed retirement and finds his desire for justice reawakened. Sony Pictures Canada release THE EQUALIZER on Friday, September 26, 2014.

Quite simply every Girl and their Mother was at Rogers Centre tonight.  The Venue, with a 54k capacity, was filled with satisfied smiles as British-Irish Pop Sensations One Direction had the Crowd on their feet from start to finish tonight.  The high-energy Pop Quintet professed their love for Canada, telling them that they by far were louder than the Crowd the previous night.  Supported by Australian Pop-Rockers 5 Seconds of Summer, One Direction sold-out two Shows as part of their Where We Are Tour.  The Tour wraps this October in Miami and is in support of 2013’s top-selling Album worldwide, Midnight Memories.

The Band consisting of Harry Styles, Liam Payne, Niall Horan, Zayn Malik and Louis Tomlinson, were pitch-perfect,  backed by an enthused and rather handsome Supporting Band.  Clocking-in at about 90 minutes, they zipped through 23 songs including Kiss You, Live While We’re Young, One Thing, Diana, Story of our Lives and What Makes You Beautiful.  In addition to lifting the spirits of their vastly-female Adorers, they also are equally adept on more emotionally resonant offerings and their Ballad Little Things had the entire Arena providing a sea of lit cellphones as a backdrop to the moment.  Beautiful.  

Styles and Payne carried a lot of the Show with their energy, while Horan at points seemed to have been copping with sound issues, conferring with a Tech a few times on-stage.  Malik despite looking a bit fatigued at moments, gave me in the second row an air Fist Bump.  I will never forget.

Anyone who walked through Yorkville these past couple days will have noticed Security Guards, barricades and of course hoards of Fans waiting aboard for possible One Direction sightings, if there ever any doubt of their popularity!

5 Seconds of Summer were more than just an Opening Act.  Much of the Audiences was equally excited to see them and few can deny they the Billboard and Soundscan Chart-topping Quartet show great promise.  It was just announced yesterday that they will be returning to Toronto August 2015 for their own self-headlining Show at Molson Amphitheatre!  Just yesterday we spent the day catching-up with 5 Seconds of Summer and it was madness! There was no stopping GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY from achieving its ultimate destiny of being a smash success for Marvel.  The Blockbuster demolishes the competition with a stunning $94 million in its debut from 4,080 theatres. Audiences and Critics alike have raves for the Action-Fantasy Comic Adaptations starring Chris Pratt, garnering an A CinemaScore and 92% on the Tomatometer. This opening makes it the third highest ever for a Superhero Franchise behind Spider-Man and Iron-Man.

Lucy in its second week still is going strong for Universal Pictures.  After debuting on-top last weekend, it slips to second spot with $15 million, nearing the $80-million mark domestically.

Opening in third is James Brown Biopic, Get on Up for Universal Pictures also. The Musical-Drama opens with $14.7 million from 2,468 theatres. Reviews for the Film are strong with 72% on the Tomatometer and also an A CinemaScore from Audiences.  Keep a tab on star Chadwick Boseman who starred in last year’s Jackie Robinson Biopic 42.

Hercules slips to fourth spot with $10.6 million in its second week out for Paramount Pictures, just surpassing the $50-million mark.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, a former Champ, finds itself in fifth spot this weekend with $8.4 million in its fourth week out.

A Most Wanted Man is comfortably in its bubbling-under status for eOne Films and RSA Films with $3.1 million grossed. In two weeks, it has made $6.5 million across North America from 729 theatres.

Rounding things out is And So It Goes with $3 million earned this weekend in its second week for VVS Films/Clarius.

Vancouver-born Funnyman Will Sasso is known best for his work as a cast member on MADtv.  The noticeably fitter Actor/Comedian was spotted out and about tonight in Toronto, kind enough to stop for some Photos for Fans!  He currently is in town filming an unknown Project as per his Twitter Timeline.

Sasso can be seen next in new Crime-Comedy HIT BY LIGHTNING which recently premiered in Montreal at the Just for Laughs Festival and CORNER GAS: The Movie, set to hit theatres this Fall!

Although technically we saw him a couple months back here in Toronto, this counts as our first time meeting Peter Dinklage!  The brilliant Actor who has gained international popularity in recent years as Tyrion Lannister on HBO’s Game of Thrones and also X-Men: Days of Future Past as Dr. Bolivar Trask.  The Golden Globe and Primetime EMMY Winner  currently is in our City filming PIXELS alongside Adam Sandler, Kevin James and Josh Gad.

Sightings of Dinklage have been plentiful, but the often private Actor who has been seen most with his Wife Erica, has been to known to be private, often declining Photographs.  After a Dinner Date with his Wife at a Café Boulud tonight, the Star was spotted on the streets and after stopping to pet a dog, he made a quick moment for Fans, politely offering to take a few Snaps.

No other Band is owning Summer 2014 like 5 SECONDS OF SUMMER!  The Australian Teen Quartet already has reached the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 200 Album Chart and Canada’s Soundscan Chart with their self-titled Debut from Universal Music.   They currently are supporting Super-Boy-Band One Direction on their  Where We Are North American Tour, which hits Rogers Centre tonight and tomorrow night. Make no mistake though, despite their listing as an Opening Act, several Fans are equally ecstatic to see them perform in an Arena.

Consisting of members Calum Hood, Luke Hemmings, Ashton Irwin and Mike Clifford, the Sydney Band flew-in separately and despite hoards of Fans waiting at the Airport last night for their arrival, complete with multiple Police Escorts ready to keep order, they managed to escape relatively unnoticed despite a few lucky Fans who by chance were at the right place at the right time.

5 Seconds of Summer did a free Public Show which saw thousands line-up outside for a chance to hear them perform an Acoustic Set outside MuchMusic‘s Headquarters today in their Parking Lot. Once again, Police Escorts were required to move people along, some perhaps a bit more aggressive than needed to be! Nonetheless, the reaction was amazing to witness live and what Fans got to take part in was something special.

Fans camped out all day outside their Hotel hoping for a chance to meet the Band and some were extremely lucky as they arrived back in the evening in their newly-minted Tour Bus.  Members Ashton and Luke were perhaps most generous with Photos but alas were rushed-in by their Security Team, who once again were rather aggressive.  After a bit of a shuffle, alas I got my Snap with Ashton!

Father of Emma, Brother of Julia.  Talented certainly and accomplished in his own right.  We’ve met Eric Roberts a few times before, but every time has always been a pleasant experience.  The Toronto-loving Vegan Star is currently in Toronto filming the fourth season of USA Network‘s SUITS as Billionaire Charles Forstman.

Roberts was out and about last night with his Wife Eliza last night getting ready for a Long Weekend of relaxation!  Roberts was seen around Yorkville throughout the day and was gracious to stop for a quick Snap.  His signature move with Fans always is to cuddle them from the back.  Good to know he’s staying true to form!

There are few Films we’re more excited about the INTERSTELLAR this Fall!  The Trailer goes straight for the gut with an emotionally-charged highlighting of the Father-Daughter Storyline between Matthew McConaughey and Mackenzie Foy.

The Sci-Fi-Drama follows a group of scientists travel through a wormhole in outer space into another dimension. Director by the brilliant Christopher Nolan, the Film stars Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, Ellen Burstyn and Matthew McConaughey.

I’ll always remember INTO THE WOODS as the one Musical I didn’t make the cut for in High School. I bawled my eyes out.  Nonethless, I still am excited to see the Feature Adaptation of the popular Musical with Music/Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and directed by Academy Award-winning Rob Marshall.

See these gorgeous  brand-new Stills and Teaser Trailer from the Film starring Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, Billy Magnussen, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Meryl Streep and several more! Its Story intertwines several of our favourite Characters from The Brothers Grimm Fairy Tales, an interest which undoubtely was sparked by the popularity of the Series Once Upon a Time surely.
