No shockers here! The Lego Movie continues its reign at the top of the Box Office once again, spending a third consecutive week at number one for Warner Bros. The 3-D Animated-Feature brings in $31.5 million this weekend from 3,890 theatres, as it edges its way closer to that $200-million mark domestically.
3 Days to Kill starring Kevin Costner and Amber Heard, debuts in second spot for Relativity Media/eOne Films, earning $12.3 million from 2,871 theatres. The Thriller garnered 25% from Critics on the Tomatometer, earning a B CinemaScore from Audiences.
Placing third and fourth this weekend are two Toronto-Filmed Action Flicks, Pompeii with $10 million from 2,658 theatres for Sony Pictures/eOne Films, and RoboCop with $8.7 million respectively, the latter now in its second week out. Pompeii starring Game of Thrones’ Kit Harington, was made for over $100 million, hopefully able to recoup some of that back overseas; Audiences gave it a B CinemaScore.
After an excellent start last weekend which saw it debut in second spot, About Last Night slips to number six this weekend with $7.4 million for Sony Pictures, closing-in on $40 million cumulative. Ride Along, a second Film starring Kevin Hart in the Top Ten, garners $4.6 million at number eight, now in its sixth week out.
After debuting at number seven last weekend, Romantic-Drama Winter’s Tale rounds-out the Top Ten for Warner Bros. with $2.1 million. In two weeks, it has grossed an impressive $11 million across North America.
The Lego Movie continues to tower above the Competition once again this Valentine’s Day weekend, pulling-in a superb $48.8-million for Warner Bros. To-date the Animated Feature has grossed over $150 million already after a record-setting debut last weekend becoming the highest-grossing debut ever for a Film in the Genre.
About Last Night debuts in second spot for Sony Pictures with an impressive $27 million, the Comedy starring red-hot Kevin Hart, Regina Hall and Kevin Ealy. Review also have been solid for the Film, tallying-in at 76% on the Tomatometer, while audiences gave the Film a resounding an A- CinemaScore to go with that.
RoboCop, the Toronto-filmed Remake of the ’80s Sci-Fi/Action Blockbuster, opens in third spot also for Sony Pictures, with $21.5 million. Critics didn’t think much of Jose Padhila’s $100-million take on the Film with a 50% rating on the Tomatometer and Audiences giving it a fair B+ CinemaScore. By comparison, its Original made $8 million in its opening weekend, good enough for number one back in July 1987.
The Monuments Men is the third Film in the Top Ten this weekend for Sony Pictures, slipping to fourth spot with a healthy $15 million in its second week out.
Another Remake, Endless Love, debuts decently in fifth spot for Universal Pictures with $13.3 million. The Romantic Thriller starring Alex Pettyfer and Gabriella Wilde and timed perfectly for a Valentine’s Day release, received a paltry 14% from Critics on the Tomatometer, while Audiences gave it a great A- CinemaScore.
Warner Bros.’ Winter’s Tale debuts in seventh spot with $7.7 million. Garnering a 14% rating on the Tomatometer, Critics might not have thought much of the Romantic Drama but Audiences gave it a far more forgiving B CinemaScore.
That Awkward Moment rounds-out the Top Ten with $3.3 million for VVS Films/Focus Features. In its third week, the small-budgeted Rom-Com starring and produced by Zac Efron is showing gumption, just surpassing the $22 million mark.
After having filmed in Toronto in 2012, José Padilha‘s RoboCop Reboot soon hits theatres. The amazing thing about being in the City, is that we get to see some of our familiar faces on the Big Screen and such is the case with Child Actor John Paul Ruttan.
At just 12 years old, Toronto’s Ruttan has had Guest Spots on popular Canadian Television Series like The Murdoch Mysteries, Degrassi: The Next Generation and The Listener. He got his big break starring alongside Megastars Reese Witherspoon, Chris Pine and Tom Hardy in 2012 Action/Rom-Com This Means War. His Star continues to rise with a starring role in RoboCop, playing David Murphy, the Son of RoboCop himself Alex (Joel Kinnaman) and Clara (Abbie Cornish).
Ruttan had Tweeted his excitement this morning heading to Global Television‘s The Morning Show (National Edition), his first big Television Interview. Murphy and his Mom were surprised to have Fans waiting in the snow for Autographs and Pictures outside the Studio. Believe me, this is only just a sign of things to come, seeing him get a chance to practice his signature initials, “JP” on a RoboCop Still for a Fan.
Although the dimunitive-sized Actor with big talent tells me he has yet to see the Film he’s currently promoting, he expressed his excitement about it and his Mother was kind enough to Snap of Photo of Ruttan, Billy and I on her iPhone. “We’re still new to the Twitter thing”, she tells me. We’re excited for what’s next for one of our City’s brightest young Stars!
Official RoboCop Synopsis:
It’s the year 2028 and OmniCorp is the Ruler of Robot Technology. OmniCorp is adamant that America will benefit from these robots and found the perfect solution how to bring them to the country.
When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), a loving father, husband and Detroit Cop, becomes injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp steps in and builds a part-Man, part-Robot, which they call the RoboCop because he’s practically invincible. The company believes RoboCop can protect Citizens in every city but things go awry when they fail to remember that there is still a living Man inside the Machine.

“Why is America so Robophobic?”.
We admit it – we had our doubts when we first heard about a RoboCop Remake being made, considering how perfect the 1987 original was. When we heard names like Abbie Cornish, Samuel L. Jackson, Jackie Earle Haley, Gary Oldman and Michael Keaton being attached, we knew they meant business.
Director José Padilha reboots the popular Franchise which centers around Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman), a badly-wounded Cop who is transformed into Cyborg form to fight crime in a futuristic Detroit.
A lot is on the line for Sony Pictures, which spent a pretty penny on the Toronto-filmed Action Flick which just completed Reshoots last week, especially after a lackluster performance at the Box Office with the expensive Total Recall Reboot last year.
Cornish was spotted in Yorkville last week with her newly-adopted French-born Puppy, shopping for Goodies at My Pet Boutique, while she was in-town for four days, leaving this past Monday morning along with her fellow Castmates.
A brand new Trailer for RoboCop has just surfaced and I was floored completely by its incredible slickness!

Most of us who grew-up in the ’80s and ’90s have fond memories of watching Michael Keaton on-screen, but having been quiet much of late, could it be that his Career is experiencing a rapid resurgence? Known best for his work as Batman, Beetlejuice and Mr. Mom, Keaton currently is in Toronto working Sony Pictures’ RoboCop Reboot, which is slated for a February 2014 release via Sony Pictures.
Keaton, unlike his Co-Stars who travel is SUVs and Production Vans, opts to travel in a super-sleek Lexus. I caught-up with him earlier today as he head-off for a long night ahead at-work. Despite being in a rush, he was kind to stop for Autographs and although he didn’t think he had time for a Photo, I reminded him that it’s just as quick to say “no” as it is to snap a Photo and of course, putting it into perspective, he was nice enough to make an exception.
The Actor next can be seen in Ottawa-filmed Penthouse North, due for a release in 2013 and soon he will be completing Voice Work for Animated Blockbuster, Toy Story 4 in the role of Ken.

Amazing day of Celeb-spotting! Earlier today I spotted none other than brilliant English Actor Gary Oldman out and about on a stroll. The Thespian who is known for his superb work on timeless Films such as The Contender, True Romance, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, The Professional and both The Dark Knight and Harry Potter Franchises, looked smart in an amazing navy blue Scarf (adorned with dogs and moons!) and Peacoat. I spotted him admiring the Architecture of a Hotel, snapping a Photo of it on his Cell Phone. Just this past weekend, he was spotted at Varsity Cinemas watching Lincoln (read my Review here).
Although caught a bit off-guard to be recognized, he was more than kind to snap a Photo before heading off with a Mate on his Stroll, while some of his RoboCop Co-Stars prepped for an evening Shoot tonight. Oldman is expected to be in-town till February when the Film wraps here in the City. He will be playing the role of Dr. Robert Norton in the Sony Pictures Reboot, set to hit theatres February 2014.
Oldman‘s connection to Canada will deepen as he’s slated to begin work on Canadian Production Monster Butler shortly in Scotland and England, alongside his Good Friend and equally legendary Malcolm McDowell. McDowell in a Chat with me earlier this year, told me about the Film and his Buddy, Oldman! Read more here.

Now this I’m super-excited about! Jackie Earle Haley is a true Survivor after having seen several highs and lows in his Career, which began back in the ’70s with his work in The Bad News Bears. After a lengthy absence, Haley resurfaced in winning form back in 2006, receiving an Oscar Nomination for his work in Little Children (one of my favourite Films of all time), alongside Kate Winslet and Patrick Wilson. In that Film he delivers a moving performance as a Child Molester fighting his own personal Demons in a struggle to integrate back into Society.
Haley has been spotted in-and-around Toronto with his Wife Amelia Cruz, particularly enjoying the top-notch Cantonese Fare served at Dynasty Chinese Cuisine, as reported by Fans who spotted him there twice this week alone. He currently is at-work on the Reboot of RoboCop filming here with the likes of Joel Kinnaman (spotted here), Gary Oldman, Michael Keaton, Abbie Cornish and more.
In addition to having been seen in Tim Burton’s Dark Shadows earlier this year, he next can be seen in Oscar Bait Lincoln, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, which opens in theatres November 16, 2012.

Meet your new RoboCop. Swedish/American Actor and Model Joel Kinnaman might be a familiar face – especially if you’ve visited an H&M of late – but he v. much is on his way to becoming Hollywood’s Next “It” Boy. Currently in Toronto filming José Padilha‘s Remake of RoboCop, Kinnaman has kept a low profile since arriving in the City a month ago.
Just last year, he appeared in David Fincher‘s The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and he is known for his work in acclaimed Swedish Thriller Easy Money, which opened here in limited release late August. TV Audiences know him for his work in AMC‘s now-defunct The Killing, which Fox Television Studios currently is in talks to renew for a third season on alternative networks.
Carrying a copy of Christopher Hitchens’ Mortality in-hand during a chilly filming break today University of Toronto-ish, Kinnaman was nice enough to stop to greet a small number of Fans. A Stills Photographer even captured the moment also! The $100-million Blockbuster from Sony Pictures features an impressive Cast including: Abbie Cornish, Gary Oldman, Jackie Earle Haley, Samuel L. Jackson, Michael Keaton and Jay Baruchel. Due for an August 2013 release, RoboCop films in Toronto up till January 2013.
The charming Kinnaman can be seen next in Auteur Filmmaker Terrence Malick’s Knight of Cups alongside Natalie Portman, Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Isabel Lucas and Joe Manganiello.

Beautiful, remarkably talented and most of all, sweet as pie, Australian Actress Abbie Cornish always makes my day! Check-out this lovely note she jot for me today after stopping by for a quick visit at the RoboCop Set here in Toronto!
I was lucky enough to get a Snap with Cornish not only at TIFF 2011, but also last month again as she was so gracious with Fans at Windsor Arms Hotel’s InStyle Magazine Party. Cornish truly is a Class Act and I am so excited about where her Career is going after falling in love her after seeing her performance in Bright Star and also the superb Limitless.
Just last week, the stunning Cornish attended the Los Angeles Premiere for Seven Psychopaths, which had premiered at TIFF 2012 and without skipping a beat, she’s now back in Toronto and ready to work again!
