There’s just no stopping TOY STORY 5 as it takes top spot at the Box Office a second straight week with $70 million from 4,425 theatres for Disney and Pixar.
SUPERGIRL debuts in second with $40 million from 3,602 theatres for Warner Bros. This gets 57% on the Tomatometer. By comparison, last year’s SUPERMAN debuted with $125 million for the studio. Review here.
In third is JACKASS: BEST AND LAST, the final in the franchise, getting $10 million from 2,855 theatres for Paramount Pictures. It earns an 87% on the Tomatometer.
Fourth goes to OBSESSION with $8.5 million, a seven week tally of $232.6 million for Focus Features/Universal Pictures.
DISCLOSURE DAY rounds things out with $7 million, a total $93.2 million grossed over three weekends for Universal Pictures.
TOY STORY 5 gets unboxed to a franchise best opening this weekend with a stellar $160 million from 4,425 theatres for Disney. Not only this, it gets a superb 94% on the Tomatometer. Franchise best belonged to 2019’s TOY STORY 4 with $120 million. Review here.
Second goes to last week’s champ DISCLOSURE DAY, bringing-in $17.2 million in its second frame to a domestic tally of $78.4 million for Universal Pictures.
Third is the resilient OBSESSION, taking $14 million, to a total six week run of $215 million for Universal Pictures.
BACKROOMS takes fourth spot with $7.5 million, a total $175 million grossed over four weekends for A24/Elevation Pictures.
SCARY MOVIE rounds things out with $6.6 million, a three week run of $97 million for Paramount Pictures.
Spielberg‘s definitely still got it! The iconic Filmmaker pulls-in $44 million with his latest, DISCLOSURE DAY, playing at 3,824 theatres. The Sci-Fi Action blockbuster starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor gets 81% on the Tomatometer. Review here.
OBSESSION continues to defy the odds, landing in second with a stellar $21 million from 3,068 theatres for Focus Features, taking it now to $190 million over five weekends in North America. Again this indie Horror was made for just $750k.
Third is SCARY MOVIE with $14.6 million for Paramount Pictures, taking it to $84.6 million domestically.
BACKROOMS is fourth with $12 million, taking it to $160.7 million for A24/Elevation Pictures. This also was made for a micro-budget of $10 million.
MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE rounds the Top Five out with $9.2 million, a tally of $47.2 million for Amazon MGM Studios.
SCARY MOVIE is back and doing it bigger than ever! The sixth film in the parody Horror franchise sets a best for the series with $52.7 million for Paramount Pictures from 3,490 theatres. As expected, this gets 27% on the Tomatometer, but none of that matters, the fans are responding to the return of The Wayans. Previous best belongs to SCARY MOVIE 3, which opened with $49 million in 2003. Review here.
Second is MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, performing very well with $31 million from 3,677 theatres for Amazon MGM Studios, which continues to deliver some real hits this year following the success of Project Hail Mary. Critics gave this a passing 66% on the Tomatometer. Review here.
Third is BACKROOMS with $26.5 million in its second frame for A24/Elevation Pictures, taking this viral hit to $135.6 million.
OBSESSION takes fourth spot with a stellar $24.8 million in its fourth frame, taking it to $151.8 million, an all-time best for indie distributor Focus Features.
Rounding things out is animated feature THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS: THE LAST ACT, with $13 million for Fathom Entertainment.
20-year-old Filmmaker Kane Parsons’ BACKROOMS makes a very impressive debut this weekend, opening with a stellar $85 million for A24 and Elevation Pictures, with 89% on the Tomatometer. This gives him the distinction of being the youngest Filmmaker with the highest Box Office opening of all time, and he also is the youngest Filmmaker ever to make a film for indie giant A24.
Second goes to OBSESSION with $28.5 million impressively in its third weekend for Focus Features, now going on to earn $106.8 million domestically for Focus Features/Universal Pictures.
STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU also has a strong second frame with $25 million, a two-week total of $137.3 million for Disney.
Fourth goes to MICHAEL with $14 million for Lionsgate/Cineplex Pictures, taking it now to $343 million in North America.
Rounding things out is THE BREADWINNER starring funnyman Nate Bargatze, with $8 million for Sony Pictures, from 3,252 theatres. It gets 29% on the Tomatometer.
STAR WARS: THE MANDALORIAN AND GROGU debuts with a stratospheric $82 million from 4,300 theatres for Walt Disney Studios. It gets a passing 63% on the Tomatometer, and overall ranks in the franchise’s seventh best opening. Best opening belongs to 2015’s Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens. with $247 million domestically.
OBSESSION benefits from word of mouth, taking second spot with $19.9 million from 2,655 theatres for Focus Features, a two week total of $55.1 million for the Horror.
Third is MICHAEL with $18.5 million, still amazing for its fifth frame, taking it to $317 million for Lionsgate/Cineplex Pictures.
Fourth goes to THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2 with $11.3 million for 20th Century Studios, a tally of $198 million.
THE SHEEP DETECTIVES rounds-out the Top Five with $8 million, taking it to $45.5 million over three weekends for Amazon MGM Studios.
MICHAEL resurges to the top to claim #1 in its fourth week out for Lionsgate/Cineplex Pictures, taking $27 million from 3,560 theatres. Thus far domestically, it has grossed $283 million. It was made for approximately $200 million.
Second goes to two-week champ THE DEVIL WEARS PRADA 2, with a third frame of $20 million. The Sequel has grossed $177 million already in North America for 20th Century Studios.
Buzzy Horror OBSESSION debuts in third with $14 million for Focus Features/Universal Pictures. It gets 94% on the Tomatometer.
Fourth is MORTAL KOMBAT II with $12 million for Warner Bros., a two-week total of $61.8 million.
