Spielberg‘s definitely still got it! The iconic Filmmaker pulls-in $44 million with his latest, DISCLOSURE DAY, playing at 3,824 theatres. The Sci-Fi Action blockbuster starring Emily Blunt and Josh O’Connor gets 81% on the Tomatometer. Review here.

OBSESSION continues to defy the odds, landing in second with a stellar $21 million from 3,068 theatres for Focus Features, taking it now to $190 million over five weekends in North America. Again this indie Horror was made for just $750k.

Third is SCARY MOVIE with $14.6 million for Paramount Pictures, taking it to $84.6 million domestically.

BACKROOMS is fourth with $12 million, taking it to $160.7 million for A24/Elevation Pictures. This also was made for a micro-budget of $10 million.

MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE rounds the Top Five out with $9.2 million, a tally of $47.2 million for Amazon MGM Studios.

SCARY MOVIE is back and doing it bigger than ever! The sixth film in the parody Horror franchise sets a best for the series with $52.7 million for Paramount Pictures from 3,490 theatres. As expected, this gets 27% on the Tomatometer, but none of that matters, the fans are responding to the return of The Wayans. Previous best belongs to SCARY MOVIE 3, which opened with $49 million in 2003. Review here.

Second is MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE, performing very well with $31 million from 3,677 theatres for Amazon MGM Studios, which continues to deliver some real hits this year following the success of Project Hail Mary. Critics gave this a passing 66% on the Tomatometer. Review here.

Third is BACKROOMS with $26.5 million in its second frame for A24/Elevation Pictures, taking this viral hit to $135.6 million.

OBSESSION takes fourth spot with a stellar $24.8 million in its fourth frame, taking it to $151.8 million, an all-time best for indie distributor Focus Features.

Rounding things out is animated feature THE AMAZING DIGITAL CIRCUS: THE LAST ACT, with $13 million for Fathom Entertainment.

Watch the Guinness Book of World Record’s Brightest Drone Show Ever in Celebration of Masters of the Universe!

On May 19, Amazon MGM Studios and Heads in the Sky launched a large-scale Masters of the Universe drone show over Hollywood Forever Cemetery, officially setting a new Guinness World Record for the Brightest Drone Show Ever (Most Powerful Drone Show Ever).

Designed as the hero moment of the global campaign, the show transformed the Los Angeles skyline with a large-scale visual experience inspired by the iconic battle between He-Man and Skeletor.

The activation combined drone storytelling, pyro drones, and one of the world’s most advanced entertainment lasers to create a premiere-level moment tied to the launch of the upcoming film. Following on-site verification, an official Guinness World Records adjudicator presented the award to the team after successfully confirming the record.

MEXICO LIGHT SHOW

On Wednesday, May 27th, Mexico will host a light show at the Chapultepec Park at approximately 9pm.

Fun Fact: This will be the biggest drone show Mexico has ever seen, with 1400 drones!

KUALA LUMPUR LIGHT SHOW

On Friday, May 29th, Malaysia will host a light show in the heart of the city at Bukit Bintang at approximately 8:30pm.

Fun Fact: The last movie to have a drone show in Kuala Lumpur was Avengers: Endgame in 2019 with 300 drones, and this event will have 600 drones.

On Monday, May 18, 2026, Amazon MGM Studios and Mattel welcomed guests through the gates of Castle Grayskull for the world premiere of Masters of the Universe at the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood.

Attendees were transported from Hollywood to Eternia as the film’s cast, filmmakers, and special guests celebrated the epic cinematic adventure inspired by the iconic franchise.

Talent in attendance included cast members Nicholas Galitzine, Camila Mendes, Idris Elba, Alison Brie, Morena Baccarin, Sam C.
