After making – pardon the pun – splash at the TIFF ’13, Co-Directors Edward Burtynsky and Jennifer Baichwal are set to release their breathtaking Documentary, WATERMARK. Mongrel Media and Mr. Will Wong not only want you to see the Directors in-person this weekend, but we also want you to win a Signed Poster from the Film!
Official Synopsis:
Every living thing needs Water to survive. Humans use with it in a variety of ways, numerous times a day. But how often do we consider the complexity of that interaction? And, unless we’re confronted by a lack of Water, when do we think about how important it is in creating, sustaining and enriching life?
This Documentary brings together diverse stories from 10 Countries around the globe about people and their relationship with Water. What they use it for, what they learn from it, and why they’re drawn to it, as well as the consequences from overuse.
The Film focusses on massive floating abalone farms off China’s Fujian Coast and the construction site of the biggest Arch Dam in the World – the Xiluodu, six times the size of the Hoover. It also takes a look at the barren Desert Delta where the mighty Colorado River no longer reaches the Ocean, and the Water-intensive leather tanneries of Dhaka.

Timed right as Breaking Bad Fandemonium is at an all-time high with its impending Finale, comes this brand new Teaser Trailer for Need for Speed. Based on the 140 million-copy-selling Video Game of the same name, the upcoming Film Adaptation directed by Scott Waugh, stars both Aaron Paul and Imogen Poots.
Official Synopsis:
The Film centers around Tobey Marshall (Aaron Paul), a blue-collar mechanic who races muscle-cars on the side in an unsanctioned street-racing circuit. Struggling to keep his family-owned garage afloat, he reluctantly partners with the wealthy and arrogant ex-NASCAR driver Dino Brewster (Dominic Cooper). But just as a major sale to car broker Julia Bonet (Imogen Poots) looks like it will save Tobey‘s shop, a disastrous race allows Dino to frame Tobey for a crime he didn’t commit, sending Tobey to prison while Dino expands his business out west.
Two years later, Tobey is released and set on revenge — but he knows his only chance to take down his rival Dino is to defeat him in the high-stakes race known as De Leon—the Super Bowl of Underground Racing. However to get there in time, Tobey will have to run a high-octane, action-packed gauntlet that includes dodging pursuing cops coast-to-coast as well as contending with a dangerous bounty Dino has put out on his car. With the help of his loyal crew and the surprisingly resourceful Julia, Tobey defies odds at every turn and proves that even in the flashy world of exotic supercars, the underdog can still finish first.

Miley Cyrus covers the October 10th issue of Rolling Stone and would you believe she got her feet tattooed with the name of the Magazine? One foot now reads, “ROLLING”. The other, “$TONE”.
Writer Josh Eells follows a day in the life of the controversial Pop Star who is a self-proclaimed “Rapunzel” in that she rarely ever leaves home. The Interview touches upon the controversy following her much-talked-about VMAs performance and the support encouragement which Producers/Moguls Pharrell and Kanye West have given her.
Cyrus says, “I wasn’t trying to be sexy. If I was trying to be sexy, I could have been sexy. I can dance a lot better than I was dancing.”. “People are like, ‘Miley thinks she’s a black girl, but she’s got the flattest ass ever. I’m like, I’m 108 pounds! I know! Now people expect me to come out and twerk with my tongue out all the time. I’ll probably never do that shit again.”.
Eells also joins her out as she parties at a Club with her Friends, sipping Malibu and also as they go on a Sushi Run. At one point they even go Skydiving together!
Cyrus has an interesting relationship with the Paparazzi who wait outside her Home daily, making deals with them to stop and pose on the condition they leave her alone and not be in pursuit of her the entire day. “I’ll usually give them a picture and they’re pretty cool. I actually don’t really get the point of Paparazzi anymore. It’s not like back in the day where they sold pictures to Magazines. Now they just put them online. I don’t really know how they make money.”.

After making a splash at TIFF ’13, eOne Films releases Our Man in Tehran in theatres. The Documentary co-directed by the Toronto Duo Larry Weinstein and Drew Taylor, reveals via first-hand Interviews with those involved, new information about the Iranian Hostage Crisis of 1979 – which we’ve all come to know about a bit better in 2013 Academy Award Best Picture, Argo.
I had the pleasure of catching-up with Taylor, who as an aside has a Ph.D. and also the distinction formerly of playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, during the Film Festival. Would you believe that Ben Affleck himself had e-mailed offering to narrate the Documentary? “That totally would’ve defeated the purpose of what we were trying to accomplish”, he tells me about the Film which promises a more accurate Snapshot of the events that took place leading-up to the rescue of six Hostages with the help of then-Canadian Ambassador Ken Taylor in what would go on to be known as the “Canadian Caper“.
Perhaps we’ll hear from our new Batman in the DVD release?

As announced previously, Disney‘s Live-Action Adaptation of Cinderella was being developed and now production officially is underway in London at Pinewood Studios and various other locations throughout England. The v. first Still from the Film was just released and believe me, it’s Cinderella like we’ve never seen her before!
Directed by Kenneth Branagh, who already has brought the Studio much success with Thor, has nothing but praise for the Film’s two Stars. “With Lily James we have found our perfect Cinderella. She combines knockout beauty with intelligence, wit, fun and physical grace. Her Prince is being played by Richard Madden, a young actor with incredible power and charisma. He is funny, smart and sexy and a great match for Cinderella“, says Branagh in a Statement.
Cinderella also stars Cate Blanchett (Stepmother Lady Tremaine), Helen Bonham Carter (Fairy Godmother), Sophie McShera (Stepsister Drisella), Holliday Grainger (Stepsister Anastasia) and Stellan Skarsgård (Arch Grand Duke).

With 15 nominations and a total eleven wins, the TV Movie directed by Steven Soderbergh won top honours of Outstanding TV Movie or Mini-Series. In addition to wins in several other categories like Outstanding Single-Camera Editing, Sound Mixing, Hair, Prosthetic Makeup, in addition to the coveted Outstanding Lead Actor in TV Movie or Mini-Series, Michael Douglas was recognized for his widely-praised portrayal of Liberace. Upon accepting his Award, he was sure to thank his Wife Catherine Zeta-Jones (recently separated) and also his Co-Star Matt Damon, stating to him, “You really deserve half of this. You want the bottom or you want the top?”, poking fun at their on-screen Gay Romance.
Winning for Outstanding Comedy and Drama Series respectively were ABC‘s Modern Family (this year receiving its 57th Emmy nomination and fourth consecutive win in the Category) and AMC‘s Breaking Bad (its first win in four nominations in the Category).
Breaking ground, Netflix Original Series House of Cards was recognized as the first-ever Internet-based Series to win an Emmy, victorious in the Category of Outstanding Directing in a Drama Series. Those of you who’ve frequented the Food Truck Circuit in the Greater Toronto Area surely by now know of Fidel Gastro‘s famous Pad Thai Fries. Lisa Marie, situated at Queen x Bathurst gives us expanded options from their Food Truck Menu Offerings in a style of dining called Cicchetti (like Tapas sorta) – great for sharing in groups of Friends.
The dimly-lit Space, with Elvis-inspired decor also features a Shop at the back with their signature Soups (Kimchi Caesar, anyone?), Marinated Meats and Pickles, maybe perhaps drowned in bit too loud ’70s-inspired Soul and Disco. Chatting with Friends was a bit of a challenge amidst all the noise.
The Menu highlight certainly is the Sugo, which I learned all about when celebrating one of my dearest Friends Josh‘s Birthday. The Dish served with pieces of freshly-baked Bread, consists of a variety of slow-cooked Ground Beef, Brisket and Pork Belly in a Tomato Sauce. Although I’m mostly a Vegetarian, even I had to make it a Meat Day to try it. It is like a heartier and luxe Sloppy Joe. It was a Hit for all.
The Alabama Tailgaters on Skewers (Bacon-wrapped Grass-fed Carpaccio with Aged Cheddar and Kimchi) are outstanding and a Smoked Duck Mini Pizza was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The Hoisin Turkey Wing perhaps was a bit too heavy on the sweet, brown Sauce, but nonetheless cooked to tenderness.
The Dessert Menu featured a French Toast Offering with Banana and a Peanut Butter Creme (as Elvis would’ve loved) which despite sounding delectable, couldn’t be accommodated due to the amount of Food consumed during the Main Course. Next time.
Those of you going on Tuesday nights get a chance to sample the entire Cicchetti Menu for less than $80. Bring a few Friends.
Lisa Marie is situated at 638 Queen Street West. Website here.

Yet once again she steals the whole darn show! Miley Cyrus performed in Las Vegas yesterday at the iHeartRadio Festival and all eyes were on the 20-year-old Megastar as she shocked in a revealing white dress with a Fishnet Top and Pasties, leaving little to the imagination. Earlier in the day she performed the same Track in a revealing Corset-Bra and Short-Shorts during an outdoor performance.
She performed her latest Single, Wrecking Ball overcome with emotion late in the Song bringing herself to tears, with mascara running down her face in the wake of the recent announcement she no longer is engaged to Actor Liam Hemsworth.
