By Amanda Gilmore
After learning she has a terminal illness, Sarah (Karen Gillan) decides to participate in a futuristic cloning procedure to help ease her partner and family’s impending loss. Ten months later, she learns that she’s in remission and decides to decommission her clone. However, Sarah’s Double files a motion to live and they are set for a duel to the death.
Writer/Director Riley Stearns’ third Feature is a dark Sci-Fi Comedy with a pair of powerful performances from Gillan. Dual is an often strange film that tells the story of how impending death makes us evaluate our existence. His use of deadpan satire makes for a unique, fun watch. Particularly when it comes to the diverging lives of Sarah and her Double.Â
Gillan is perfectly cast and allows the audience to believe in this odd futuristic world. She excels as both Sarah and her Double, turning in two compelling performances. As Sarah, she effectively portrays her dissatisfaction with the life she’s found herself living. As the Double, she excels at showing the clone’s curiosity for life. Out of the Supporting Cast, Aaron Paul (who plays Sarah’s combat trainer) turns in a deadpan comedic performance that impeccably reflects the world Stearns has created.
Overall, Dual is an intriguing high-concept film and its steady pace grips the audience into Sarah’s world. The ending might leave audiences unsatisfied, however, it does leave us with a question: is an unhappy life worth killing for?
Dual screens virtually at Sundance:
Premiere: Jan. 22 at 8PM EST
Second Screening: Jan. 25 at 10AM EST (available for 24hrs)

Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
In recent years cinema has seen a upswing in drone-based Movies, some of these titles have played commercial success and the festival circuit while others have been left in the dust of their own destruction. This year is no different as a star-studded cast makes its way to the TIFF ’15 in Eye in The Sky, a drone movie riddled with political ineptitude. The Film does present some very interesting dilemmas and issues surrounding drone based missile attacks, but at the same time the morality question has to be asked as well as is a strike justified if its for the greater good.
In the beginning of the Movie, we meet our hero and protagonist Steve Watts (Aaron Paul) a drone pilot whose mission is to fly over Nairobi, Kenya to track and capture three  on the FBI/CIA’s most wanted list in Kenya. However, when thinks take a quick turn from a capture mission to a kill mission Colonel Katherine Powell (Helen Mirren) is faced with nothing but difficulty from the English government lead by Lieutenant General Frank Benson (Alan Rickman) whose colleagues cannot make up their mind and consistently request it to be sent up for approval. With seconds literally ticking on the clock before mass casualties can occur, the thrill ride is keeping audiences constantly at the edge of their seats.
Aaron Paul who has proven he can be very good at persuasion  in Breaking Bad is at it again with an incredible performance, not to be outdone  by seasoned veterans Helen Mirren or Alan Rickman whom both are absolutely remarkable as well. Rickman who plays the seriously irritated and jaded lieutenant general, also provides some of the much needed light comic relief in the Film.
eOne Films’ Eye in The Sky premieres at TIFF on Friday September 11th at 6:30 pm at Roy Thomson Hall and again at a second screening on Saturday September 12th at 11:15 am at Isabel Bader.

It was literal Fandemonium last night as hoards of Fans came out to support Aaron Paul at the Premiere of his upcoming Car Racing-Action/Drama NEED FOR SPEED, based on the Video Games of the same name.  The Breaking Bad Star, known best for his role as Jesse Pinkman, completed a long Press Day around the City yesterday which ended with an almost-unheard-of 30-minute Q&A at the festive Advance Screening of the Film at Scotiabank Theatre.  Director Scott Waugh also was in attendance to answer Fan questions.  Fans later spotted Paul last night also at an A-Lister‘s Hot Spot.
Although several Fans were left disappointed at an originally-scheduled Red Carpet Screening Monday as Paul was forced to miss his flight due to inclement weather in New York Monday, he certainly did not disappoint. He even had a handful of Tickets to reward his Toronto Fans with via Twitter the following day when he finally arrived.  And we were among the first to spot the Actor in the City.  Read more here and also enter too for a chance to win a Signed Photo!
Casual and cool in a black Toque and Leather Jacket, the ruggedly-handsome 34-year old revealed at the jam-packed Screening that he may at one point down the road reprise his role as Pinkman. Â “I love that kid”, he says, “It was hard to say goodbye to that Guy – hopefully not forever.”. Â Toronto heard it first!

Two-time Primetime EMMY Award Winner Aaron Paul descended upon Toronto tonight, but certainly not without a hitch. Â The Actor known best for his work as Jesse Pinkman on recent Golden Globe-winning AMC Series Breaking Bad is in the City to promote NEED FOR SPEED, a high-octane Car Racing-Action/Drama based on the Video Games of the same name.
Paul got his big break starring in popular HBO Series Big Love as Scott Quittman, but success has been long in the making for the Idaho-born Star, whose Acting Credits date all the way back to 1998 including the original Beverly Hills, 90210.
After enjoying a weekend of Super Bowl Festivities in New Jersey, the Actor found himself stranded in New York City today awaiting a flight out, but after several flights were cancelled due to a crippling Snow Storm, he decidedly would not disappoint his Toronto Fans – some who travelled five hours to see him only to learn of his missing a Special Appearance at the Movie. Director Scott Waugh however, fielded questions from the Audience in Aaron‘s absence.
In lieu of the circumstances though, the Film’s Canadian Distributor, DreamWorks Pictures,  had rescheduled a Surprise Screening for tomorrow night to make it up to Paul‘s ardent Supporters.  Although they are unable to guarantee his appearance, there is a possibility of him making it out to face his Fans.
The Actor was amazingly nice to Fans upon arrival despite expressing a bit of fatigue and even signed a Photo for you Wongsters! Â He has an early start to his day tomorrow with a day lined full of Television appearances including George Stroumboulopoulos Tonight, CP24 Breakfast and Canada AM.
The Actor next stars in Sir Ridley Scott‘s Biblical Drama EXODUS, currently in post-production.
In case you haven’t yet seen the Trailer for NEED TO SPEED, it is a must that you see it below. Â Betrayal. Friendship. Revenge. Fast Cars. What more could one ask for?
