Review by Mr. Will Wong
Lucy in the Sky centers on an astronaut’s successful journey into space and the aftermath of this when she re-evaluates her life. We witness Lucy‘s (Natalie Portman) unravelling as she loses her perspective on the world after she accomplishes the mission. She becomes unhinged, losing her inhibitions and what ensues is a downward spiral from which we can’t keep our eyes off.
The Drama-Thriller is Noah Hawley‘s directorial debut. While it is an ambitious task telling this story, which starts on solid footing in its First Act, before turning tonally into the unpredictable, he manages to maintain our interest as we witness Lucy‘s fall from grace.
Portman cannot be faulted as she is fully committed to making us see the world through Lucy’s eyes and she does it in a compelling way. However, even she – a master of her craft – is unable to resuscitate the Film’s implausabilities and unevenness, where we never see developed fully, Jon Hamm‘s Mark nor Lucy‘s husband Drew (Dan Stevens). And this was better needed to pave the way for her eventual path.

Toronto was “it” today as some of the star-studded Cast of TAG were in the City promoting the much-buzzed Comedy. Here today were an A-List trio of Jon Hamm (Mad Men, Baby Driver), Jeremy Renner (The Town, Avengers) and Ed Helms (The Hangover, The Office) who star in the Jeff Tomsic Film about a group of five highly-competitive friends who go all-in when it comes to their playing tag, a tradition for them since the first grade. When one of them (Renner) who happens to be undefeated at the game, gets married, the other four look at this as the perfect opportunity to dethrone him – but not without a fight from him! TAG also stars Hannibal Buress, Jake Johnson, Leslie Bibb, Isla Fisher and Rashida Jones.

Hamm, Renner and Helms did the rounds today in a hectic morning which saw them at TV stops like Breakfast Television, CP24 Breakfast, Your Morning, The Morning Show (National Edition), plus also a Facebook Live session. Fans queued the elaborate Red Carpet which lined the perimeter of the lobby at TIFF Bell Lightbox, the Canadian Premiere of TAG. Some lucky contest winners got up close and personal to the Trio of stars who were happy to stop for Autographs and Selfies, much to their delight!
Hamm, Renner and Helms were in great spirits despite a long day already at 2:30 PM, bringing smiles and cheers from the crowd. Contest winners also got to see the Film early, which we’re hearing is “hilarious”! Local Media came out in full force for this the Cast’s last stop on their press tour.
Our Amanda Gilmore (@GilmoreAmanda) will be sharing his Review shortly. Stay tuned.

Scoring high marks with local Media today, Funnywoman Lake Bell did the rounds in Toronto in support of Disney‘s upcoming Baseball Drama, MILLION DOLLAR ARM. The Film starring Jon Hamm is a Biopic about Sports Agent J. B. Berstein who visits India in hopes of recruiting Major League Baseball Players. Bell stars as Brenda Paauwe Bernstein, his Wife.
Bell is a familiar face to Television and Movie Lovers alike. She won lots of acclaim last year in self-penned, produced and directed In A World… which saw her star as a struggling Voice Coach and had roles in high-profile Comedies like No Strings Attached, Over Her Dead Body and What Happens in Vegas. Audiences fell in-love with her in short-lived Series How to Make it in America from 2010-2011.
The expecting Mother continues to promote Million Dollar Arm with zest, just last week walking the Red Carpet at the Met Ball in New York City, her Hometown and recently turned heads with a bare-all cover for Esquire Magazine, which was shot the same day she found out she was pregnant!
We caught-up with the likeable Actress today and she was awesome to stop for a quick Snap despite being in a rush. We took a moment to wish her all the best with her Baby after she completed a busy day of Press which saw visits to City‘s Breakfast Television, CTV‘s The Social, eTalk and more.
