Synopsis:
Early 18th century. England is at war with the French. Nevertheless, duck racing and pineapple eating are thriving. A frail Queen Anne (Olivia Colman) occupies the throne and her close friend Lady Sarah (Rachel Weisz) governs the country in her stead while tending to Anne’s ill health and mercurial temper. When a new servant Abigail (Emma Stone) arrives, her charm endears her to Sarah. Sarah takes Abigail under her wing and Abigail sees a chance at a return to her aristocratic roots. As the politics of war become quite time consuming for Sarah, Abigail steps into the breach to fill in as the Queen’s companion. Their burgeoning friendship gives her a chance to fulfil her ambitions and she will not let woman, man, politics or rabbit stand in her way.

Paramount Pictures Canada release WONDER PARK March 2019.

After earning over $700 million worldwide, 2017’s IT became one of the highest-grossing Horror movies of all time. Production on IT: CHAPTER 2 began a week ago in and around Toronto just like its Predecessor, including overnight shoots at Mandarin Restaurant in Mississauga, before moving back to its base at Pinewood Studios.

While the Film is expected to remain faithful to Stephen King‘s source material and the original 1990 TV Movie, surely returning Director Andy Muschietti will have a few a scares up his sleeve for us! It: Chapter 2 films through October and we can expect to see the clouded clown return to torment the Loser’s Club, now grown-up 27 years later, bringing them back to the cursed town of Derry.

The original cast of kids, most who have been in Toronto briefly these past couple weeks, will reprise their roles in this upcoming installment and in this Film will be seeing their adult versions:

Bill Skarsgård who was terrifying as Pennywise the Clown, also returns.

It – pardon the pun – was an amazing weekend and we caught wind they were in Yorkville for a night of relaxation after an overnight shoot the night prior. They were recreating this iconic scene in which Pennywise gives the Losers’ Club an ominous message after reuniting at a Chinese restaurant:

Chastain, McAvoy, Hader, Mustafa, Ransone, Ryan, Muschietti and his sister Bárbara, a Producer on the Film, plus friends thankfully had a far less mortifying meal at upscale Japanese it-spot Kasa Moto followed by libations at Amber and late-night Karaoke. Will Arnett, Vinay Virmani and more also were spotted out in the vicinity, giving Yorkville back a bit of its past starpowered lustre.

While we’ve met Chastain a dozen-plus times in our travels and Film Festival romps, this was the most memorable meeting yet! She is the kindest, most giving actor in Hollywood today and hasn’t changed since her meteoric rise. Basically, we don’t deserve her! We’re just happy to see her thriving, having fun and that her peers love and respect her as much as we do!

We admit we still are horrified after seeing IT last fall. Every rustle of the leaves to every time Pennywise surfaced and flashed his teeth shook us to the core. Oddly, it was equally emotional too as I’m sure many were affected by the fact that the Losers’ Club were outcasts just like us, with very real problems of their own whether it be  Beverly and her abusive father or Bill grieving the painful loss of his little brother.

We are beyond thrilled about seeing the 2019 follow-up, slated for a post-Labour Day release just like the first chapter.

Small in size, big in numbers! ANT-MAN AND THE WASP flies in its debut, taking an impressive $82.4 million from 4,206 theatres for Marvel/Disney.  By contrast, its 2015 predecessor pulled-in $57 million in its opening. It gets 86% on the Tomatometer and an A- CinemaScore. A very Sequel/Franchise-heavy Top Three we have this weekend.

INCREDIBLES 2 pulls-in $31.9 million it its fourth week out, landing in second this weekend. In total it has grossed $507 million domestically for Disney/Pixar.

In third is JURASSIC WORLD with $31.3 million from 4,349 theatres for Universal Pictures. Over three weeks, it has made $336 million.

THE FIRST PURGE earns $18.5 million in its opening for Universal Pictures/Blumhouse Productions. It has made $32.4 million since its Wednesday opening. The Franchise Prequel gets 52% on the Tomatometer and a B- CinemaScore.

WON’T YOU BE MY NEIGHBOR continues to do well in limited release, with $2.6 million, now playing at 893 theatres for Focus Features/Universal Pictures. It has made $12.4 million in its run and it is seen as an Awards Season contender.

DEADPOOL 2 earns $1.8 million in its eighth week out for 20th Century Fox, a total $314 million grossed to date.

Canadian Celebrity Chef and Restauranteur Mark McEwan is known for thrilling the tastebuds of his most influencial clientele and also Canadians, many who know him as head judge on Top Chef Canada. He takes his talent and charisma to a new platform with upcoming Webseries, CHEF TO CHEF, presented by Centennial College and Grub Content.

The highly-digestible new show has McEwan chatting intimately – no expletives spared – with top Canadian culinary forces. They share their journeys and their paths to success, their struggles and their own culinary pleasures. Episode one has him chatting with Bar Isbael and The Black Hoof founder Grant van Gameren, snacking on canned seafood, crisps and espresso. van Gameren despite having risen to the top of the culinary scene in Toronto describes himself as feeling “stressed, overworked and broke” as ever before, clearing the misconception that he has large financial backer. He admits to having had to refinance his own home to fund a new creative space for his company. “People are emotionally-hungry more than ever.  They want to eat, but also are craving a feeling”, he says about today’s diners.

Hosted at Centennial College‘s Event Centre, the affair curated by Shalit Foods, brought out a full house to screen episode one of CHEF TO CHEF.  The Series has its sights set on up to ten episodes. Episode two features PICK 6IX founder Chef Antonio Park. Guests dined on some exquisite fare including Oysters and Bacon Lobster Cheeseburger Sliders by Sand & Pearl (Suzanne Barr), Ceviche Verde and Sikorsiki Spicy Chorizo (Victor Dries), Fabrica’s Classic Pepperoni Pizza Al Taglio and Fois Gras Mousse Crostini (Mark McEwan), Gnocchi (Centennial College School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culinary Arts), Desserts by Delysèes (Fred Naggar) and more. Cocktails were crafted by Shangri La Hotel’s Kevin Reuschel.

McEwan may or may not have saw us trying to down his delectable Fois Gras Mousse Crostini in one bite and cheered us on. 😳

We even spotted Chef Matt Basile (Lisa Marie, Fidel Gastro’s) out showing his support!
