Huge debut this weekend for The Evil Dead, opening in 3,025 theatres with a stellar $26 million. In an interesting turn of events, this weekend there were two ties for second place and fifth place. The Sony Pictures/FilmDistrict Flick interestingly enough received fairly positive reviews from Critics (65% on the Tomatometer), although Audiences responded not as well with a C+ CinemaScore. Poor feedback however didn’t seem to hurt the Remake of Sam Raimi‘s 1981 Horror at all. Made for only $17 million, it is a great success on all accounts.
G.I. Joe: Retaliation slips to second spot this weekend but still continues to be a force to be reckoned with, earning an impressive $21.1 million at number two for Paramount Pictures. In two weeks domestically, the Film has grossed$87 million. The Croods ties as second spot for 20th Century Fox, still going strong with $21.1 million also in its third week of release. In total it has earned $125.7 million in North America to date.
Jurassic Park 3-D gets a second life at the theatres via Universal Pictures debuting at number four this weekend with $18.2 million, earning strong reviews in this incarnation (91% on the Tomatometer). By comparison, the original version of the Film back in June 1993 opened with $47 million.
FilmDistrict/VVS Films’ Olympus Has Fallen and Tyler Perry‘s Temptation both tie for fifth spot with $10 million for Lionsgate/eOne Films in its second week out. Disney‘s Oz The Great in Powerful in seventh spot has surpassed the $200 million-mark in North America, earning $8.6 million in this its fifth week.
Rounding-out the Top Ten is Rom-Com, Admission, with $2.0 million in its third week of release.
Toronto sure loves Game of Thrones and the latest Cast Member to grace our City is none other than Kit Harington. An no, that’s not Orlando Bloom whom he often is confused for! The 26-year-old Thespian Heartthrob arrived in Toronto last week to begin prep on Paul W. S. Anderson‘s (Resident Evil: Retribution, The Three Musketeers… Husband of Milla Jovovich) Action/Adventure Pompeii, which films later this month. And this of course wouldn’t be Harington‘s first time in Toronto though as he filmed Silent Hill: Revelation here early 2011.
Harington has been turning heads allover the City this past week with Fans taking to Twitter to voice their shock at seeing Jon Snow (his Game of Thrones Character) in-person on our streets. For once, some Snow in April is actually welcome! The incredibly kind Actor, who actually is even more handsome in-person, tells me he isn’t quite sure when some of his Co-Stars including Emily Browning (Sucker Punch), Jared Harris (Mad Men, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones) and our v. own Kiefer Sutherland will be here. The Film centers around a Man condemned to Slavery on a ship, who must work his way home to save the Woman he loves and his Best Friend, a trapped Gladiator. Think Django Unchained, but not really! eOne Films will release Pompeii in 2014.
The Actor also recently revealed (pardon the pun) that a nude scene is forthcoming on the fourth season of Game of Thrones, although we don’t know exactly when. He tells the New York Daily News, “I’m fine with nudity actually. I think it’s one of those things…you take off your robe and you are nude.“.
I never leave my Readers empty-handed, so in celebration of our Spotting, let’s share an Autograph shall we? To enter to win a Signed Photo from Kit Harington, click “like” on this Post before May 1, 2013. Share this Post on Facebook and double your chances! All are welcome to enter.
And while we’re on the topic, let’s take a look back at some of the Game of Thrones Cast Members who’ve visited Toronto recently:
Game of Thrones can currently be seen on HBO Canada on Sunday nights at 9:00 PM EST.

Those of you following my Tweets or Instagram of late will know just how much I’ve been raving about Jessie Ware and as luck would have it she was in-town today performing her first ever Toronto Show at Opera House in Riverdale. Although she is just being introduced to North Americans, the UK has fully embraced the stunning Daughter of BBC Reporter John Ware, earning an Album of the Year nod last year for a Mercury Prize and multiple nominations at this year’s BRIT Awards. Her visit today is short and sweet and unfortunately due to limited timing, Ware‘s Canadian Publicist tells me that she wasn’t doing any Press in the City at all.
Although my search for tickets was unfruitful, with Craigslist Sellers trying to get $100 out of me for one ticket to the sold-out Show, I still get the chance to meet her after a bit of a wait at the Venue. Arriving shortly after 5:00 PM, the soulful British Songstress arrived with her Handler and handsome Boyfriend Sam Burrows, stopping to sign some Autographs and take Photos with a couple Fans-in- waiting.
As anticipated, Ware is just as lovely and delightful as imagine, genuinely touched that I made an effort to get tickets to her Show. “How did you find her Album here?”, her Boyfriend asks me, to which Ware replied, “Oh, it’s been available here for a while already!”. And right she is as Ware’s Debut Disc Devotion saw a release here last September but only recently gained buzz. Also, it was just announced that Ware will be playing Quebec’s prestigious Osheaga Festival in August alongside the likes of Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Mumford & Sons, Tegan & Sara and several more. And for those curious, Ware requested Grilled Veggies as her Pre-Show Meal.
Supporting Ware tonight were hotly-tipped newcomer Duo Ms Mr who hail from New York. Consisting of Lizzy Plapinger and Max Hershenow, the former sporting some fantastic rainbow hair, were friendly to stop for a Photo before completing a couple Photo Shoots today at the venue.

So basically I need to see this. Right now. The first full Trailer for the Carrie Remake, by Director Kimberly Peirce has surfaced and it is everything we could hope for. The fact that it was filmed in Toronto holds a dear place to me and it was amazing seeing the Cast out and about in my neighbourhood last Summer while filming. Chloë Moretz truly delivers her A-Game here and the ending looks terrifying.

Honestly, no fair! South Koreans were lucky enough to get their own Stop-off on the Promotional Tour for Iron Man 3 and none other than Robert Downey Jr. rung-in the festivities earlier today with a Red Carpet Premiere, at once celebrating his 48th Birthday too.
The Promotional Tour for Iron Man 3 next hits Beijing on April 6, 2013.
Iron Man 3 hits theatres on Friday, May 3, 2013.

This saddens me so. Famed Film Critic and Celebrity in his own right, Roger Ebert has passed away at the age of 70. After battling a first bout with Cancer, he had undergone Radiation Treatment again with the illness resurfacing. In addition to being that rare combination of brilliant Television Personality and just as proficient a Writer, Ebert always was with/ahead of the times, embracing Social Media to share his talents with the World.
He will be sadly missed and even though I only met him the pleasure of meeting him in passing, he is an Inspiration. Farewell, Roger.

After a bit of a tease online, Beyoncé today released her brand new TV Spot for Pepsi, featuring a Clip of her new Track Grown Woman. No word on whether this is actually her new Single or not. The Commercial seems Queen B rehearsing before some of her most famous past versions of herself in mirrors (did she a Justin Timberlake coordinate this, perhaps?), presumably for her upcoming The Mrs. Carter Show Tour this Summer? Okay, we get it Beyoncé, we all know you’re going on tour. We know you’re just checking, but honestly, we get it!
As always, she looks amazing and it takes an amazing sense of timing to be able as getting this right is no easy feat.

He might be in the running in the face to be Canada’s next Prime Minister, but Justin Trudeau sure seems to have a lot on his mind – so much that he almost ran-off with a Mic! The alluring and charismatic 41-year-old made an appearance earlier today at Global Television‘s The Morning Show (National Edition) earlier today and following his visit, he was greeted by Supporters outside the Studio, stopping to sign some Autographs and snap some Pics. Dressed casual in jeans and a patriotic Canada Goose Jacket, he was more than friendly and gracious to his Fans.
Right before he head off, a relieved Producer from the Show, Mackay Taggart, caught Trudeau in the nick of time to retrieve back a Mic which he was wired-up to, laughing it all off. Mistakenly, the potential Federal Leader of the Liberal Party, called the Show Breakfast Television! Dude, there’s a difference!
See a Clip below:
In an interesting tidbit of information, Forum Research recently conducted a Survey asking Canadians whether or not they felt the Son of former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau was fit to be a Prime Minister and a majority 48% of Respondents vote said “yes”, 37% said “no”, while 16% were undecided.
The Liberal Party Leadership will be decided on Sunday, April 14, 2013, with Trudeau expected to win handily.

The Stars came out in support of The Colony‘s upcoming release at Scotiabank Theatre last night in Toronto. Our v. own Kevin Zegers and Academy Award Nominee Laurence Fishburne walked the Red Carpet, each embarking on a two-day Press Tour in Toronto to promote the Sci-Fi/Action/Thriller.
Handsome Zegers who confirmed he will be getting married this Summer (we broke news of his engagement first last August!) we all know practically is a Torontonian even though he hails from Woodstock, especially having filmed both The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones and The Colony here last year. And even though Fishburne technically isn’t a Torontonian, he pretty much is one honourarily! The Actor has filmed here over the years as has his Wife and Toronto-filmed Suits Star Gina Torres who accompanied him on the Red Carpet last night. More recently, he just wrapped production on upcoming Series Hannibal (premieres April 4, 2013 on City) alongside Hugh Dancy and Mads Mikkelsen.
Director/Writer Jeff Renfroe filmed The Colony last Winter between North Bay and Toronto. The Film is set in a post-Apocalyptic World, amidst the next Ice Age. Members of Colony 7 must fight desperately to save themselves after realizing they may be facing a far worse threat than imagined originally.
More Snaps from the Red Carpet below (thanks to Contributor Jonathan Godfrey and Keith McCalmont):

Some Snaps from The Colony‘s Press Day including a Visit at Global Television‘s The Morning Show:

eOne Films releases The Colony on April 26, 2013. I’ve seen The Colony personally and thought not only was it beautiful to look at, but the Action is outright fierce. Review to come release day!
