Fans of the Jackass Franchise know v. well what they’d be getting with Jackass: Bad Grandpa, clamouring to the Box Office this Halloween Weekend for some Tricks along with the Treats. Starring Johnny Knoxville disguised as 86-year-old Irving Zisman, the Comedy debuts easily at number one with $32 million for Paramount Pictures, opening in 3,336 theatres. Not only did Audiences enjoy it giving it a B CinemaScore, but Critics gave it fairly positive reviews, tallying-in at 63% on the Tomatometer.
Gravity slips to second spot after an impressive three-week-reign for Warner Bros., earning a still great $20.3 million in its fourth week of release, closing-in on that $200-million mark.
Slipping to third spot is Sony Pictures’ Captain Phillips which makes $11.8 million in this its third week of release. The Drama is en route to surpassing the $70-million mark domestically.
Although expectations were higher, Sir Ridley Scott‘s latest, The Counselor, manages only a fourth-place debut with $8 million for 20th Century Fox. Surprisingly, it received a detrimental D CinemaScore from Audiences despite its stellar Cast which includes Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Penélope Cruz and Rising Star Natalie Dormer. It opened in 3,044 theatres and had an estimated $25-million Production Budget.
Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 finds itself in sixth spot with $5 million, just surpassing the $100-million mark domestically, ahead of the Carrie Remake in sixth, in this its second week of release. The Horror garners $5.9 million for Sony Pictures.
Despite it showing only in 123 theatres across North America, Best Picture Contender and TIFF ’13 People’s Choice Award Winner 12 Years a Slave, still manages a placing in eighth for Fox Searchlight, with $2.1 million. The Slavery-themed Drama from Director Steve McQueen with a whopping 95% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, continues to expand in coming weeks.
Prisoners rounds-out the Top Ten with $1 million for Warner Bros., in its sixth week of release, just shy of the $60-mark in its North American run.
If there ever was a sure thing, this would be it. Although McKenna Ihde of Madison, Wisconsin originally intended to enter her Pug Tottie for a grand prize of $25k from Petco’s Make a Scene Contest, it appears now that she has become an overnight viral Sensation!
McKenna submitted a Photo of Tottie dressed as the Wrecking Ball in Miley Cyrus‘ controversial Music Video for her latest Single of the same name, clad in a puffy gray ball, saddled by a nude Barbie Doll on a chain, and soon after the Internet was set afire. With the Contest due to end tomorrow, Tottie has received in excess of 3,200 votes so far with many Media Outlets from Elle to Huffington Post profiling her.
One thing for is for sure, we’re certainly smitten too! Don’t forget to throw in a vote for the amazing Tottie!
Basically, I need a Plush Version of Tottie in her Wrecking Ball outfit already. TY or GUND best be reading.

From the same Creators as the ever-popular One of a Kind Show, comes the Delicious Food Show, now in its second year. Taking place over three days this weekend at the Better Living Centre on Canadian National Exhibition grounds, the Event features 300+ Exhibitors, Workshops and appearances from a Who’s-Who of Canadian Celebrity Chefs including Mark McEwan, Chuck Hughes, Lynn Crawford, David Rocco and Nadia G.
In Toronto today to kick-off the Show was Multimedia Mogul Martha Stewart, who in addition to demonstrating a Cake-Baking in support of her latest Cookbook, Martha Stewart’s Cakes, also met with 100 Fans who purchased the Book on-location. Gracefully, she zipped her way through the line, armed with a Sharpie and an enamouring smile, occasionally looking-up to pose for a quick Snap.
Earlier in the day, Stewart fielded questions from a mixture of Digital, Online, Print and Television Media as she reflected on her own Success Story, giving-out tips for on how to be a craftier Entertainer at home to Guests. On the influence of Online Media in this day and age, she says “There are many Bloggers imparting knowledge to a lot of people and I think that certainly is the way of now and the future.”.
I asked Stewart from her Collection of Cake Recipes, which she’d recommend for those like me who are constantly on-the-go with little time to bake. “I’d start with one of the Skillet Cakes or a simple Bundt Cake which has a total of five ingredients. It’s pretty foolproof”, she states. “As long as you have an oven and a mixer, you’re set”.
She also touches upon her influences and in addition to ensuring that her Driver always takes a different route when driving through New York City each day so that she can soak-up new inspirations, she reveals, “Great Chefs inspire me. I eat out a lot and I’m constantly visiting with great Chefs and Bakers. I appreciate the knowledge they impart.”.
On entertaining with little notice, Stewart swears by some good, strong Cocktails served to Guests on a tray. “The Caipirinha is a great Icebreaker, as is the Bourbon Sour, or even an icy Martini”, proclaims the Domestic Goddess.
Opening its doors at 11:00 AM, Patrons enjoyed some fabulous offerings at super-reasonable price points from popular Local Businesses. Delectable Oysters from Oyster Boy; scrumptious Meat Pies from Kanga, buttery Lobster Rolls from Buster’s Sea Cove Food Truck; always amazing Tacos from Gourmet Gringos’ Food Truck; Lobster Guacamole from Canyon Creek Chophouse and positively delectable Macarons, Cookies, Lemon Meringue Tarts and Cakes from Petite & Sweet, which had even Stewart raving as she cut into a Celebration Cake designed by them to ring-in the occasion.
I found myself obsessed particularly with Soda Stream, a do-it-yourself-at-home Soda Machine with an array of available Syrups ranging from Kool-Aid to Crystal Light. I even enjoyed a Killer Mojito made from the Machine and it was one of the best I’ve ever had. I will not deny that I also was a little excited to see an array of British imports available via Mrs. Bridges’ British Bakery and I do admit to stocking-up on some Marks & Spencer Cookies, while noticing a super-cool variety of Goodies including a never-seen-before Maltesers Chocolate Bar.
I had the pleasure of getting a quick Snap with Stewart who for a long time now has been an Idol to me, having religiously watched her The Martha Stewart Show when it was easily available in Canada, and also owning a few of her Books including The Martha Rules, for aspiring Entrepreneurs. Her Drivers were seen throughout the day ushering-in gifts and purchases from Vendors at the Delicious Food Show, while her Security Guards ushered her speedily into her Vehicle after another walk through the Show as the rain began to come down and the number of Onlookers grew. “Okay, we’ve gotta be quick! I don’t want to stand in the rain!”, she said after telling me earlier in the day we’d snap a Photo at some point and although in a hurry, she was amazing still to make an exception for one Photo. She is just stunning.

The World truly comes to Woodbine Racetrack this Sunday for the 76th running of the Pattison Canadian International, bringing together a Field of international Turf Stars for a lofty $1-million purse. The prestigious Affair is known best as the Race which legendary Secretariat won before retiring in his 1973 Championship Season. Jockeys, Trainers, Owners and Horses alike have flown-in for the occasion and earlier on the Card too is the $500k E.P. Taylor Stakes, a restricted Fixture for top-tier Fillies and Mares on the grass.
IndyCar Series Driver James Hinchcliffe partook in the festivities taking-on Drawmaster duties earlier today at Woodbine Racetrack as Post Positions were drawn for both Races.
The Fields for each Race are below:
The $500k E.P. Taylor Stakes (GRADE I) – 4:38 PM EST
1 No Explaining
2 Colonial Flag
3 Irish Mission
4 Minakshi
5 Moment In Time
6 Nancy O
7 Fitful Skies
8 Samba Brazil
9 Moment of Majesty
10 Tannery
Representing Woodbine are Irish Mission (who also is entered in the Pattison Canadian International, although more likely to race in the latter against the Boys), Moment of Majesty, No Explaining and Nancy O, who is trained by our dear friend Carolyn Costigan of Arravale Racing.
The French Filly Minakshi won a major prep race for this, the Canadian Handicap in September at Woodbine, just ahead of American-invader Colonial Flag who has had great luck locally in the past when shipping-in. Formerly European-based, Tannery looks real tough after racing well among difficult company in New York recently including a narrow loss in the Grade I Flower Bowl Invitational in late September.
The $1 million Pattison Canadian International Stakes (GRADE I) – 5:45 PM EST
1 Hyper
2 Temeraine
3 Lucayan
4 Perfect Timber
5 Joshua Tree
6 Stormy Len
7 Now We Can
8 Forte Dei Marmi
9 Seismos
10 Irish Mission
11 Slumber
Representing Woodbine this year are Perfect Timber and the Morning Line Choice, Forte Dei Marmi who is coming off three consecutive wins. A Victory in this Race would be a first for 73-year-old Hall of Fame Trainer Roger Attfield who surprisingly still has yet to win the Pattison Canadian International. As mentioned above, Irish Mission likely will be competing in this Race as the lone female Entrant.
American-based Slumber also is seen as a major Contender, coming in off a respectable fourth place finish in the Arlington Million in September. Hyper, who also is representing Team U.S.A., enters the Race off two big victories, including a win at Belmont Park in New York last month in the Grade II Bowling Green.

Yet another reason why Tom Hardy is amazing. The Britsh Actor who continues to be Toronto-shy, has just been confirmed to star as Elton John in an upcoming Biopic about the 300-million-record-selling Singer/Songwriter, titled Rocketman.
The Film is far from your run-of-the-mill unauthorized Biopic though as John’s Partner David Furnish will be producing the Film along with Steve Hamilton Shaw under their Rocket Pictures; Lawrence Bender of Al Film also will be co-producing. Surely this bodes well for authenticity? The Film will go as far back as John being a Child Prodigy at the age of five, according to Variety.
FilmDistrict acquired U.S. rights for the Film this past Spring, although it remains to see who will be distributing in Canada.
Hardy next can be seen in Animal Rescue, which filmed this Spring in New York City, along with Mad Max: Fury Road, in which he takes over the Titular Role made famous by Mel Gibson.

Seven-time Tour de France-winning Cyclist Lance Armstrong certainly is no stranger to controversy and not one, but two Films are on their way about his fall from grace after his doping offences were brought to light.
Just beginning production this past weekend, Stephen Frears (The Queen, Philomena) is directing a Biopic simply known as The Cycling Project, based on the Book Seven Deadly Sins: My Pursuit of Lance Armstrong by David Walsh. Cast in the role of Sportswriter Walsh is Australian Actor Chris O’Dowd (Bridesmaids, The Sapphires), who persistently hounds Armstrong for years. Playing Armstrong is Ben Foster (seen above) who has been selective in his roles to date, but soon will be seen in Kill Your Darlings, opposite Daniel Radcliffe and Dane DeHaan. He currently is attached to Robin Wright and both were spotted in Toronto at TIFF ’13 just last month. StudioCanal is producing the Film. TIFF ’14, perhaps?
Also premiering at TIFF ’13 was Documentary The Armstrong Lie by Filmmaker Alex Gibney who followed Armstrong for four years following his Comeback post-Cancer to his admission of doping in 2012, following a federal investigation. The Film includes interviews with Armstrong‘s Teammates and Doctors. “It’s not a Story about doping, it’s a story about Power and hanging onto that Power”, says Gibney. Mongrel Media releases on Friday, November 29, 2013.
