Like this current deep freeze we’re experiencing, Disney‘s FROZEN continues to show amazing resilience, taking the top of the Box Office once again in this its seventh week of release with $20.3 million grossed from 3,318 theatres. The Film has just surpassed the $300-million mark in North America also in its run.
Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones spooked its way to second spot in its debut for Paramount Pictures. This fifth Film in the Franchise opens with $18.5 million from 2,867 theatres, which while decent, is still far off the mark of 2011’s third instalment which opened with a whopping $52 million. Critics gave the Horror 45% on the Tomatometer and Audiences gave it a C- CinemaScore.
After a multi-week reign, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug slips to third spot with $16.2 million for Warner Bros. in its fourth week out. The second Film in the Peter Jackson Trilogy has grossed over $231 million domestically in four weeks.
There is a tie for fourth spot with two Oscar Contenders, vying not only for Awards, but at the Box Office. The Wolf of Wall Street continues to perform strongly in fourth spot for Paramount Pictures, bringing-in $13 million, now earning $63.9 since its Christmas Day opening. American Hustle also comes in with $13 million for Sony Pictures/eOne Films, now earning $90 million in its four-week run across North America. Anchorman 2 is sixth with $12.8 million in its third week.
The Hunger Games: Catching Fire in eighth spot with $7.3 million its seventh week out, with a cumulative total of $408 million earned for Lionsgate Films/eOne Films.
Grudge Match finds itself in tenth spot with $5.4 million for Warner Bros., just surpassing $25 million in its second week.

Happy New Year, Wongsters! I admit it’s been a while since we’ve spotted a Celeb in these parts, but what better way to kick-off ’14 than with a Fresh Face?
Justin Bieber Fans – or Beliebers as you call yourselves – need little introduction to Maejor Ali, the 26-year-old Singer/Songwriter who reached the Top 20 this Fall with his Track, Lolly (ft. Justin Bieber and Juicy J.). After spending New Year’s Eve in Paris, the Detroit-born Talent, flew into Toronto last night to spend the day with Bieber, with whom he is said to be working on new Music in addition to his own upcoming Album. He also is responsible for producing Teen Sensation Austin Mahone‘s Single Say Somethin‘.
Ali, who currently is signed to Bieber‘s Schoolboy Records (Universal Music), strutted the streets of Toronto New Year’s Day like a Champ in a jacket and robe in these frigid temperatures!

After wowing us hard on the Season Finale of The Voice a couple weeks back, Christina Aguilera headed straight into the studio and delivered some powerhouse additional vocals on Lady Gaga‘s latest Single Do What U Want. Vocals previously were recorded by R. Kelly, but Aguilera‘s lends a real vote of confidence here silencing years of feuding between the two Divas. Hopefully this isn’t too late for a Chart Boost as the Collabo is really what the Track needs!

Incredible! For the third week in-a-row, The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug tops the North American Box Office, albeit narrowly with $29.9 million for Warner Bros., placing it just ahead of the stalwart Frozen in second with $28.8 million for Disney. The former has earned over $190 million now in its domestic run, while the latter in five weeks has grossed $247 million.
Anchorman 2 in its second week finds itself in third spot with $20.2 million for Paramount Pictures, already earning $85.3 million.
American Hustle in its second week of wide expansion to 2,507 theatres, earns $19.6 million for Sony Pictures/eOne Films for a two-week total of $60.4 million.
Martin Scorcese‘s The Wolf of Wall Street after opening on Christmas Day, earns $18.5 million this weekend for Paramount Pictures from 2,537 theatres. Since its opening, it has grossed $35 million – not at all bad considering its R-rating. Critics gave the Film based on the Memoir by Jordan Belfort, starring Leonardo DiCaprio, a 76% rating on the Tomatometer. Audiences surprisingly gave it only a C CinemaScore.
Saving Mr. Banks plays in 2,110 theatres for Disney and earns $14 million this weekend, a two-week total of $37.8 million domestically.
Also opening on Christmas Day, The Secret Life of Walter Mitty opens in sixth with $13 million from 2,110 theatres this weekend for 20th Century Fox. The Film received some mixed reviews with 57% on the Tomatometer, while Audiences gave it a much more promising B+ CinemaScore.
47 Ronin opened in 2,689 theatres across North America on Christmas Day for Universal Pictures, garnering $9.8 million. Audiences gave it a B+ CinemaScore, while Critics were far less forgiving on the Action-Adventure starring Keanu Reeves, only 17% on the Tomatometer.
Grudge Match rounds-out the Top Ten with $7.3 million from 2,838 theatres for Warner Bros., also opening on Christmas Day. The Boxing-Comedy starring Sylvester Stallone and Robert DeNiro didn’t receive critical love with 21% on the Tomatometer, while Audiences enjoyed it much more with a B+ CinemaScore.
With two successful locations in Vancouver already, Toronto is now able to enjoy the ever-trendy Izakaya-style offerings of ZAKKUSHI in the Carlton x Ontario Streets. An Izakaya for those unaware, is a festive Pub-like Gathering Spot for Friends after a long day at work or on weekends, offering Japanese Tapas-esque fare, often grilled or fried. This location boasts a large variety of Skewers in your choice of Sea Salt or Teriyaki and they are scintillating! If you’re just unsure, order the Premium Skewer Set, which offers a good cross-section of choices.
Beef, Chicken, Pork, Seafood, Lamb – you name it, they’ve got it. Although several might cringe, I’d say hands-down the best offering is the exquisite Teriyaki Chicken Liver Skewer, although the Deep-Fried Prawns in House Cocktail Sauce was mighty amazing. The Marinated Mackerel Sashimi was an absolute delight, as was the Deep-Fried Baby Octopus in Sour Plum Mayo. I’m actually rather obsessed with the latter’s Dipping Sauce.
Of course, there are several Sashimi-type offerings on the Menu too and for Dessert, I highly recommend the Red Bean and Green Tea Ice Cream Japanese Pancake Sandwich.
A fun, festive alternative to Bento Boxes and All-You-Can-Eat Sushi and a telling sign of its authenticity of the large number of Japanese Customers who frequent the Establishment!
Beware of the two-hour seating limit though…
