“I was just reading e-mails…”
Joseph Gordon-Levitt tries his hand (pardon the pun) at Acting/Writing and Directing in Don Jon, a Porn Addict from New Jersey who tries finding happiness with a Girl who potentially could be “the one”. Although it wasn’t formally announced at last week’s list of Films to premiere at TIFF ’13, this Comedy was later confirmed by Canadian Distributor Mongrel Media to screen at this year’s Festival.
Don Jon features a superb Cast including Julianne Moore, Scarlett Johansson, Tony Danza and I think we even see a Cameo from Anne Hathaway in there! It is said Gordon-Levitt wrote the part of his Girlfriend specifically for Johansson.

One of the Films to get the most buzz at TIFF ’13 is Rush, which already has a great amount of Awards buzz surrounding it. Although Director Ron Howard certainly is no stranger to Toronto, having film Cinderella Man here about eight years ago. The Biography centers on Austrian Formula 1 Driver Niki Lauda who almost lost his life after a crash in 1976, taking-on British Rival James Hunt in a challenge. Insiders who’ve seen this Film already are raving how great it is and in a month’s time we’ll know too!
Rush stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Dormer, Olivia Wilde and Daniel Brühl, who should be here early in the Festival for opening night Gala, The Fifth Estate.

One of the Films to premiere at TIFF ’13 has a familiar face behind the lens. Keanu Reeves tries his hand at directing in Martial Arts Flick Man of Tai Chi. Starring Action Star Tiger Hu Chen, Actress/Singer Karen Mok and Reeves himself, the Film centers on a Martial Artist, who is known for his phenomenal Tai Chi (a defensive, slow-form variety of Martial Arts) skills, being lured into an underground, high-stakes Fight Club.
Watch the Trailer below:
Although it premiered in Asia earlier this month, a North American release date still has yet to be set for the Film to be distributed in Canada by eOne Films.
Reeves appears on the verge of a career resurgence, starring next in Sci-Fi Flick, Passengers alongside Reese Witherspoon.

Huge Jackman! The Wolverine 3-D starring Hugh Jackman opened with a bang Friday night with $21 million and despite a slight slip over the weekend, still tops the Box Office in North America with a powerful $55 million from 3,924 theatres for 20th Century Fox. Critics and Audiences enjoyed the Marvel Adaptation, earning a 68% rating on the Tomatometer and an even better A- CinemaScore.
After a stellar debut atop the Box Office last weekend, Horror The Conjuring slips to number two with a still solid $22.1 million. In total, it has grossed $86 million in two weeks for Warner Bros. in North America.
In its fourth week, Despicable Me 2 continues to perform strongly in third with $16 million for Universal Pictures, just ahead of another Family-oriented option in Turbo 3-D for 20th Century Fox/DreamWorks with $13.1 million in its second week of release.
Red 2 slips to sixth spot with $8.7 million for Summit Entertainment/Lionsgate Films/eOne Films in its second week, just ahead of Pacific Rim in seventh with $7.3 million for Warner Bros. The latter has gone on to earn $83.8 million in three weeks domestically.
The Heat in eighth spot earns $6.8 million in its fifth week, a cumulative total of $141 million to become the highest-grossing Comedy of 2013.
Fruitvale Station despite expanding to just 1,064 theatres, makes its Top Ten debut with $4.6 million for Focus Features/eOne Films. The acclaimed Drama based on true events surrounding Oscar Grant‘s final day, has the distinction of an impressive 93% on the Tomatometer.

Official Synopsis below:
Kick-Ass, Hit Girl and Red Mist return for the follow-up to 2010’s irreverent global hit: Kick-Ass 2. After Kick-Ass’ (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) insane bravery inspires a new wave of self-made masked crusaders, led by the badass Colonel Stars and Stripes (Jim Carrey), our Hero joins them on patrol. When these amateur Superheroes are hunted down by Red Mist (Christopher Mintz-Plasse) — reborn as The Mother F %&*^r—only the blade-wielding Hit Girl (Chloë Grace Moretz) can prevent their annihilation.
When we last saw junior Assassin Hit Girl and young Vigilante Kick-Ass, they were trying to live as normal Teenagers Mindy and Dave. With graduation looming and uncertain what to do, Dave decides to start the world’s first Superhero Team with Mindy. Unfortunately, when Mindy is busted for sneaking out as Hit Girl, she’s forced to retire — leaving her to navigate the terrifying world of high-school Mean Girls on her own. With no one left to turn to, Dave joins forces with Justice Forever, run by a born-again ex-Mobster named Colonel Stars and Stripes.
Just as they start to make a real difference on the streets, the world’s first super villain, The Mother F%&*^r, assembles his own evil League and puts a plan in motion to make Kick-Ass and Hit Girl pay for what they did to his Dad. But there’s only one problem with his scheme: If you mess with one member of Justice Forever, you mess with them all.
Kick-Ass 2 stars Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloë Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Morris Chestnut,
John Leguizamo, Donald Faison and Jim Carrey.

He’s a Star of the Ice, and today he was a Star of Ice… Cream! The Toronto Maple Leafs’ Alternative Captain Joffrey Lupul was turning-up the heat over at the Magnum Pleasure Shop (11 Bloor Street West) today, doing a round of Interviews on premises. Shortly after 12:00 PM the doors were opened and a flood of Fans, primarily Female and dressed in their Leafs jerseys, came through the Shop getting a chance to meet the #19 Hunk. Make no mistake though, Fans big and small were accommodated as he graciously signed hats and jerseys for his youngest Supporters first.
Lupul is a Man of taste and as a fellow “Pleasure Seeker”, he dishes to me what he likes on his own customized Magnum Ice Cream Bar. “I put Maple Canadian Fudge, Popcorn and Chocolate on mine!”, he tells me as a crowd of Fans inched closer towards him.
Those of you who haven’t had a chance yet to check-out the Pop-Up Shop will be thrilled to know that based on its overwhelmingly positive reception (there are Line-ups out the door daily!), it will remain open now till the end of August. Even that still is not long enough as several hoping the Pleasure Shop will become a permanent fixture in the City. Myself included.
What did I put on my Ice Cream Bar? My taste buds went into overdrive with my combination of Sea Salt, Dark Chocolate, Coconut, Macadamia Nuts, Almonds and Chili Flakes, topped with a few Parisian Macaron Crumbs. Did I mentioned the real Gold Flakes sprinkled on top? TDF. To die for!

“We’ve lost Houston, we’ve lost Houston“.
Okay, they’ve definitely got our attention. After it being confirmed for a Premiere at TIFF ’13 on Tuesday, we’ve all been googling Alfonso Cuarón‘s Sci-Fi Thriller, Gravity, starring George Clooney and Sandra Bullock. The Film centers on Astronauts who attempt to return to Earth after debris crashes into their space shuttle, leaving them drifting alone in orbit.

Warner Bros. Canada and Mr. Will Wong are thrilled to give Readers a chance to win a Double Pass to Advance Screenings of We’re The Millers across Canada including Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax, Winnipeg, Calgary, Edmonton and Vancouver on Thursday, August 1, 2013.
If you haven’t yet seen the hilarious Red-Band Trailer for We’re The Millers, I insist you do so. All I have to say is Jennifer Aniston‘s Stripper moves and an amazing Homage to TLC‘s Smash Hit, Waterfalls have me obsessed. Sold!
Official Synopsis below:
David Burke (Jason Sudeikis) is a small-time Pot Dealer whose Clientele includes Chefs and Soccer Moms, but no kids—after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local Teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter Punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his supplier, Brad (Ed Helms). In order to wipe the slate clean—and maintain a clean bill of health—David must now become a big-time Drug Smuggler by bringing Brad‘s latest Shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of his Neighbours, cynical Stripper Rose (Jennifer Aniston) and wannabe Customer Kenny (Will Poulter), and the tatted-and-pierced streetwise Teen Casey (Emma Roberts), he devises a foolproof Plan. One fake Wife, two Pretend Kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the “Millers” are headed south of the Border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang!
We’re The Millers also stars: Nick Offerman, Kathryn Hahn, Thomas Lennon, and Ed Helms.
