It’s an incredible Franchise best for JOHN WICK: CHAPTER 3, debuting at #1 with $70.6 million from 3,855 theatres for Lionsgate/Cineplex Pictures. Not only this, it gets 95% on the Tomatometer from Critics. Previous best opening for the Series was 2019’s JOHN WICK: PARABELLUM with $56 million. Four films in this weekend’s Top Five are all installments in Franchises.
Second is SCREAM VI with $8.8 million from 3,355 theatres for Paramount Pictures. Over three weeks, it has made $90.3 million.
SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS is third $8.5 million, a total $45.2 million grossed over two weeks for Warner Bros.
CREED III continues to perform well in fourth with $8.1 million also for Warner Bros. Over four weeks it has made $140.6 million.
Rounding things out in fifth is 65 with $3.2 million for Sony Pictures, earning $27 million over three weeks.
SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS descends upon theatres in victorious form, taking the #1 spot at the Box Office in its debut with $30 million this weekend from 4,071 theates for Warner Bros. It gets 54% on the Tomatometer, falling short of the 90% score its Predecessor got in 2019, opening with $53 million.
SCREAM VI slips to second spot but is still going strong with $18 million from 3,676 theatres for Paramount Pictures, a two-week total of $76.5 million.
Third goes to CREED III with $15.8 million for United Artists Releasing/Warner Bros. It has made $128.1 million over its three weeks of release.
65 is fourth with $5.5 million from 3,405 theatres for Sony Pictures, a two week take of $22.1 million
ANT-MAN & THE WASP: QUANTUMANIA rounds this Top Five out with $4.7 million, a total $206.4 million over five weeks for Disney/Marvel.
Shazam‘s affinity with Toronto knows no limits! 2019’s SHAZAM! exceeded all expectations both critically and commercially and though its followup wasn’t filmed in Toronto like its predecessor, it still gets the red carpet treatment with a special fan screening, brought to us by Audi Canada, being held tonight at Scotiabank Theatre. Shouts of “Shazam!” could be heard throughout the theatre, fans ecstatic for this rare, exciting opportunity.
Stars Zachary Levi, who reprises the titular role in SHAZAM! FURY OF THE GODS and Lucy Liu, who is introduced to us as Kalypso in the Franchise, descended upon Toronto, giving fans something to be excited about as we enter March Break!
In this Sequel, we reunite with Billy Batson (Asher Angel) and his fellow foster kids, who are navigating being everyday teenagers, but also having adult version Superhero alter-egos. We meet the Daughters of Atlas, who arrive on earth looking to reclaim back the magic that was taken from them. Billy and his family are forced to battle for their own superpowers, and save the world.
Our pair of stars dazzled on the Red Carpet before heading into the special screening to do an introduction. Name a more dapper duo! I dare you!

While there wasn’t an option for an in-person Comic-Con this year. DC Comics announced in June this year they would be holding their own global virtual convention. DC FANDOME takes place this weekend, with panels replaying for 24 hours. The fun doesn’t end there though – another event is coming Saturday, September 12, 2020. The festivities from the HALL OF HEROES had fans pumped as several exciting things were unveiled about the DC Comics universe’s upcoming release sate.
THE BATMAN – Everyone’s been waiting for it! Here is Robert Pattinson as Matt Reeves’ BATMAN. This is EVERYTHING. The Teaser also gives us a glimpse of The Riddler (Paul Dano) and Catwoman (Zoë Kravitz)! Coming to theatres October 21, 2021.

SUICIDE SQUAD – Writer/Director James Gunn tells us, “It’s going to be different from any superhero movie ever made”. Check-out this exclusive Sneak Peek and “Roll Call” at the anticipated follow-up to 2016’s SUICIDE SQUAD. BATMAN MINI-SERIES – DC Comics Publisher and CCO Jim Lee and award-winning screenwriter John Ridley confirmed plans for a four-issue Batman miniseries scheduled for January 2021, featuring art by Nick Derington. The panel revealed key art for the first issue from LADRÖNN, and Ridley’s series will center on the family of Lucius Fox, confirming rumors that this Batman will likely be a person of color. This launches January 2021.
MILESTONE COMICS – working on the philosophy that Comic Artists of visible minority backgrounds were under-represented. Shutting down in 1997, it was announced today at DC Fandome that they will be returning to publishing once again starting with a Static Shock Digital Comic Series to surface February 2021, followed by an original Static Shock original graphic novel and the return of Milestone heroes Icon & Rocket. From September 2020 onwards, select content from their catalogue will be re-mastered and re-issued.
ZACK SNYDER’S JUSTICE LEAGUE – Coming to HBOMax in 2021 is the long-awaited Director’s Cut of JUSTICE LEAGUE, arriving in four hour-long segments. Fans have demanded it and they soon will get it at long last. Check-out this new official tease!
THE FLASH (Season 7) – A Teaser Trailer for the seventh-season of THE FLASH has been unveiled. The season premieres January 2021 and will feature a much-hyped cameo by Ezra Miller who stars as The Flash in the upcoming Andy Muschietti Feature based on the character.
THE FLASH – This long-awaited Feature begins filming in January and it’s confirmed both former Batmans Ben Affleck and Michael Keaton will make an appearance in the Film. A new-improved costume for the titular character was unveiled
Miller on today’s Panel gave Muschietti a heart attack teasing a reveal, before it being ultimately a “Rick-Roll“!TITANS (Season 3) – Toronto-filmed TITANS has been confirmed for a third season. New and returning characters to be introduced include: Red Hood (played by series star Curran Walters), Barbara Gordon (to be cast) and Dr. Jonathan Crane (to be cast) confirmed to appear in the season.
AQUAMAN 2 – While it won’t be out till December 2022, Director James Wan did say at today’s panel, “I think the second one is a little bit more serious, a little bit more relevant in the world we are living in today. I think that’s where it wants to go”.
SHAZAM! – At today’s panel for this Toronto-made Blockbuster, it was revealed its upcoming Sequel will be called SHAZAM!: FURY OF THE GODS! Not much got revealed about the actual Movie, but they definitely kept things entertaining going off-topic and they confused fans further with cameo by Sinbad! This Sequel will be released November 4, 2022. David F. Sandberg returns as Director.

AVENGERS: ENDGAME takes it record-smashing success to week two, bringing-in $146.9 million this weekend for Marvel/Disney, from 4,662 theatres in North America.
Far back in second is LONG SHOT which opens to the tune of $10.6 million for eOne Films/Lionsgate Films from 3,230 theatres. It gets 83% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
THE INTRUDER debuts in third with $10.5 million from 2,222 theatres for Sony Pictures and 28% on the Tomatometer.
UGLYDOLLS bows in fourth with $9.2 million from 3,652 theatres for STX Entertainment/VVS Films. It gets 36% on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore.
SHAZAM! is in eighth with $2.2 million, a five week total of $135 million for Warner Bros.
DUMBO rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.3 million for Disney, a total $109.6 million made over six weeks.
In an historic event, AVENGERS: ENDGAME knocks it way out of the ballpark with a $356 million opening this weekend in its debut at the Box Office! It plays at 4,662 theatres (widest release of all time) for Disney/Marvel and along with those numbers comes great acclaim, as it reaches 96% on the Tomatometer for Critics, while achieving a super-rare A+ CinemaScore. The previous highest opening of all time in North America belonged to 2018’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR with a $257.6 million debut and it might a while before we see another Film open to these numbers. In Canada, it sets a record as the highest opening ever for a Film according to Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Canada, taking-in $28.9 million. Globally, it will hit $1.2 billion+ this weekend.
CAPTAIN MARVEL gets a bit of resurgence, bit still a v. distant second, with $8.3 million from 2,435 theatres for Disney/Marvel also, bringing its run to $413.8 million domestically over eight weeks.
THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA lands in third with $7.8 million for Warner Bros., a two week total of $41.5 million in North America.
BREAKTHROUGH places fourth with $7.2 million it its second week, a total $27 million in two weeks for 20th Century Fox
SHAZAM! is in fifth with $5.6 million, a total $131.2 million for Warner Bros. over four weeks.
PENGUINS rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.1 million, a total $5.7 million grossed for Disney over two weeks.
THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA delivers an Easter surprise, taking the top of the Box Office with $24.6 million from 3,372 theatres for Warner Bros. The James Wan production gets 34% on the Tomatometer and a B- CinemaScore.
In second is SHAZAM! with $17.2 million week three for Warner Bros. after two weeks on-top.
BREAKTHROUGH debuts in third spot with $11 million after a Wednesday opening in 2,824 theatres. The 20th Century Fox release gets a decent 64% on the Tomatometer and an A CinemaScore.
In fifth is LITTLE with $6.8 million in its second week out for Universal Pictures.
Rounding-out the Top Ten is MISSING LINK with $3.9 million in week two for United Artists Releasing/Elevation Pictures.
SHAZAM! prevails a second straight week, taking top spot at the Box Office with $23.4 million from 4,306 theatres for Warner Bros. Over two weeks it has made $93.1 million domestically, nearly recovering its $100 million production budget.
Debuting in second is LITTLE for Universal Pictures with $14.9 million from 2,667 theatres. It gets 50% on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore.
In third is the Reboot of HELLBOY $12.3 million from 3,303 theatres for VVS Films/Lionsgate Films. It gets 15% on the Tomatometer and a C CinemaScore.
Fourth spot goes to PET SEMATARY with $9.4 million from 3,585 theatres in its second week. It surpasses $40 million in its North American run for Paramount Pictures.
AFTER exceeds industry estimates of $5 million, debuting in sixth with $7 million from 2,138 theatres for VVS Films/Avion Pictures. The adaptation of Anna Todd‘s wildly-popular Young Adult novel, gets 13% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
MISSING LINK opens in ninth spot with $5.8 million from 3,413 theatres for Elevation Pictures/United Artists Releasing. The latest Laika creation gets a great 88% on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore.
BEST OF ENEMIES rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.9 million for Elevation Pictures/STX Entertainment, a two-week tally of $8 million.
