Review by Amanda Gilmore for Mr. Will Wong
After The Wedding follows Isabel (Michelle Williams), who runs an orphanage in India. When the orphanage is in need of money she receives a substantial donation, but it comes with a catch. Isabel will have to travel to New York City and meet a successful business woman (Julianne Moore) to convince her she deserves the money. However, when she arrives she is forced to examine her past.
The Film is the American remake of Susanne Bier’s Oscar-nominated Film of the same name. This time around, Director Bart Freundlich (Moore‘s real-life husband) decided to make the two leads women, rather than Bier’s male leads. This results in a refreshing take on the original story while allowing for substantial performances from Williams and Moore. Both women are a force in their individual scenes, yet when they are together the fireworks ignite. Their performances and this tender family story make for an impactful viewing experience.
After The Wedding screens at Sundance on Thurs., Jan 24 at 5:30PM at both Eccles PC and The Ray PC, Fri., Jan 25 at 9AM at Eccles PC and 9:15PM at The Grand SLC, Sat., Jan 26 at 9PM at Resort Sundance, Wed., Jan 30 at 5:30PM at Prospector PC, and Sat., Feb 2 at 5:30PM at The MARC PC.
It was a star-studded second day at the 2019Â Sundance Film Festival and our Amanda Gilmore was out and about capturing all the excitement in between her screenings.
She tells us TROOP ZERO is the one to look out for next Awards Season as the feel-good Film produced by and starring Viola Davis premiered to rousing reception. Check out her Review here.
She also saw the Adaptation of popular Richard Wright Novel, NATIVE SON which sees Best Picture-winning Moonlight star Ashton Sanders back in the spotlight again. Her thoughts on the Film here.
Real-life couple Director Bart Freundlich and Oscar winner Julianne Moore team-up on a Remake of Danish film AFTER THE WEDDING, which also stars Michelle Williams. Amanda‘s review here.

Amanda‘s Recap:
Throughout the day there were second screenings from films that premiered last night and into the afternoon and evening their were new premieres to come. One of those premieres was Shia LaBeouf’s screenwriting debut Film, which is semi-autobiographical, Honey Boy. When the Film finished, there was a strong applause and since then it has been on our radar. Another Film that premiered tonight was Screenwriter and Actor Mindy Kaling’s Late Night. This Film follows a female Late Night Talk Show Host, which is definitely something topical right now. It is one of the hardest tickets to get at this year’s Festival. Kaling has been a steady force within the industry since her days on The Office. Now IMDb has given Kaling the STARMeter Award today.
Out on Main Street, many stars were found walking, doing press and hitting some parties. Some people spotted today were Mindy Kaling, Nick Robinson, Julianne Moore, Jada Pinkett Smith, Malin Åckerman, Billy Crudup and more.
A majority of these actors opted to walk down the street to each of their interviews rather than taking a vehicle. And a lot of them took their time to stop for fans on the street even though a lot were running around to their next interviews.
Tonight also was the Sundance Kickoff Party that we were lucky enough to attend. The atmosphere was filled with high energy and conversations about the best films viewed so far. After overhearing conversations it is clear that many people loved Troop Zero, while others had a lot to say about Documentaries.
Check-out some of the awesome star sightings by Amanda in and around the hub of the Festival:
Ashton Sanders, Native Son
There is still a lot of Festival left! Tomorrow Zac Efron will be in town to premiere his Ted Bundy Biopic, Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, which just dropped its Trailer today. There is a lot of hype surrounding it so far at Sundance. There will be some star power hitting the Midnight Programme tomorrow night with Dakota Johnson and Armie Hammer’s new film Wounds. It is sure to be a day full of excitement and we look forward to bringing you all the latest, so stay tuned.

And in a blink of an eye, another TIFF has passed and this one had us working right to the finish line! It’s only after the fact that we have a moment to take it all in how much we went through. We estimate double our average in Celebrity Snaps this year. That’s how star-studded TIFF ’18 was. It was that kind of a year!
We had the pleasure of previewing several of this year’s Awards Season contenders and we are waiting with baited breath to see A STAR IS BORN and GREEN BOOK, both outstanding, duke it out for Oscars glory in coming months. We loved both, are thrilled the latter was honoured with the People’s Choice Award at the Festival, but something about the former makes our heart sing. We cannot stop thinking about it or its Soundtrack. It takes a magical Film to do that.
Let’s relive some of my favourite star-studded moments of the Festival, as lensed through the Nikon D3400. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without this amazing camera which worked amazingly-well with our Blackberry Key 2 in terms of file transmission to ensure we were able to get our photos uploaded and edited within moments for you all to enjoy! The clarity of these snaps speak for themselves.
A STAR IS BORN Press Conference
We will never stop taking our signature Celebrity Selfies and TIFF ’18 was unforgettable even if we saw many returning faces. We wouldn’t have been camera-ready without the right gear and depending on each scenario, sometimes the Blackberry Key 2 worked best for those Selfies, sometimes the Nikon D3400 worked better. What matters is that more often than not, we got the snap! And many we did.
Here’s some of our faves!

In case you missed our Television appearances during TIFF ’18 this is our first year hitting-up the three big media giants: Global, CITY and CP24 (Bell Media). Thrilled! Our brand continues to thrive as a Festival go-to and we are so happy for the recognition.

Elevation Pictures x Mr. Will want to take Readers to an Advance Screening of George Clooney‘s SUBURBICON, which premiered at TIFF ’17! Screenings take place as follows 10/26: Toronto, Vancouver, Halifax, Ottawa, Winnipeg, Edmonton and Calgary.
Synopsis:
Gardner Lodge (Matt Damon) lives in the quiet family town of Suburbicon in 1959. The sleepy town is idyllic, until the Meyers family moves in. Despite the fact that the Meyers are hardworking, honest people with a well-brought up young son, because they’re black, the good people of Suburbicon become more and more outraged, putting up high fences to block out any view of the family and eventually protesting outside the Meyers‘ home.
This sets the scene for a brutal break-in to occur without anyone in the town noticing. Two violent men break into Gardner’s home and terrorize his young son, Nicky (Noah Jupe), Gardner‘s wheelchair-bound wife Rose (Julianne Moore) and Rose‘s twin sister, Margaret (Julianne Moore). The break-in not only ends in a death, but raises serious questions about the people of Suburbicon.

TIFF ’17 will be remembered as one of the most electrifyingly star-studded Festivals in many years and today is exactly why!
Names don’t come any bigger than Angelina Jolie who walked her first of two Red Carpets this afternoon. She produces Animated Feature THE BREADWINNER and humbly came out to grace not only the Red Carpet but walk the line of Fans stopping for photos and autographs along Yonge Street in front of Winter Garden Theatre. We were among the lucky! What a thrill! Don’t miss her at her Premiere for well-reviewed Documentary FIRST THEY KILLED MY FATHER tomorrow!

Academy Award winner Jennifer Lawrence also drew a large crowd at TIFF BELL LIGHTBOX for the Presser for Darren Aronofsky‘s well-reviewed mother! While there was no sign of Michelle Pfeiffer today, Javier Bardem and Ed Harris later would walk the Red Carpet after being absent at the Film’s Presser. We even got a photo with Lawrence although tragically, flashes going off would wash out the Photo! Devastation!

THE SHAPE OF WATER continues to garner tons of Oscar buzz with Festival Creative Director Cameron Bailey touting it as his fave! We spotted its friendly cast today including two-time Oscar nominee Sally Hawkins, winner Octavia Spencer, nominee Richard Jenkins and Doug Jones. Hawkins is getting a lot of early buzz for her work.in this Toronto-made Fantasy by Guillermo del Toro. No signs of Michael Shannon however!

We loved seeing Julianne Moore out earlier as she promoted George Clooney‘s SUBURBICON. We didn’t see Clooney though who was snuck-in, although we hear he has been really fantastic and giving to fans at TIFF ’17!
Sam Rockwell is back at it in the City, a place which work has brought him to many times, returning to TIFF with THREE BILLBOARDS OUTSIDE EBBING, MISSOURI.

Dave Franco stars alongside brother James Franco in hilarious THE DISASTER ARTIST, based on THE ROOM star Greg Sestero‘s Memoir about working on that Cult Classic! He was in a bit of a rush today but we hope to see him around tomorrow as the Film premieres then at Midnight Madness.
James McAvoy consistently delivers and we were thrilled that he was able to make it in this year as we’ve wanted to meet him since we saw The Last King of Scotland, which also premiered here back in 2006. He’s here for SUBMERGENCE and was gracious sporting a bald look for his X-Men: Dark Phoenix role which he is shooting now in Montreal.

Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
From Director George Clooney and Writers Joel and Ethan Coen, the anticipation for Suburbicon was through the roof. Unfortunately the anticipation got the best of this Film and it falls flat. What should’ve been a Film that goes out of the park ends up as a foul that no one can catch.
The Movie focuses on Rose (Julianne Moore), Gardner (Matt Damon) and their son Nicky (Noah Jupe). They live in a small suburban neighbourhood in the 1950s-era and the neighbourhood becomes shaken up when they are the subjects of a home invasion that takes a dark turn. The Movie ends up turning into a dark(er) Thriller as it progresses and introduces us to the most interesting character, Roger (Oscar Isaac).
The performance from Oscar Isaac is what makes Suburbicon most interesting, but he is far too under utilized and the rest of the Film is rather bland shockingly. With what both Clooney has proven behind a camera and the Coen’s have proven with a script, there was so much hope that falls so short that there truly is no saving grace.
Suburbicon screens at TIFF on Saturday, September 9th at 6:30 PM at the Princess of Wales and Sunday, September 10th at 12 PMÂ at Roy Thomson Hall.
