Official Synopsis:
In the near future, the streets are patrolled by police robots. One such robot is captured and reprogrammed to be the first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. Named Chappie, his programmer Deon Wilson (Dev Patel) tries to teach the childlike robot about books and art.
However, Australian engineer Vincent Moore (Hugh Jackman) is very opposed to the idea of artificial intelligence and wants to destroy Chappie.

CINDERELLA is Queen of the Ball at the Box Office this weekend! Disney‘s Live-Action Adaptation of their 1950 Animated Classic debuts right at the top with a stellar $70 million from 3,485 theatres! Made for $95 million, it in no time should recoup its production costs. Starring fresh-faced Lily James and Oscar Winner Cate Blanchett, the Fantasy got a stellar 86% from Critics on the Tomatometer, while Audiences praised it in unison with an A CinemaScore.
Although a distant second, Warner Bros.‘ Action RUN ALL NIGHT starring Liam Neeson and Joel Kinnaman, opens in second with $11.3 million in its debut from 3,171 theatres. Reviews were mixed at 59% on the Tomatometer, but Audiences loved it with an A- CinemaScore, which could help its second week numbers.
KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE continues to show great staying power in third with $6.2 million for 20th Century Fox. The Film now is in its fifth week.
THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL lands in fourth in its second week out with $5.8 million for Fox Searchlight. The Film in North America has grossed $18.2 million thus far.
CHAPPIE slips to sixth in its second week after a debut atop a tepid Box Office last weekend. It earns $5.4 million for Sony Pictures, a two-week gross of $23.2 million.
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY is in ninth this week with $3 million for Universal Pictures, earning a cumulative $161 million thus far domestically.
THE DUFF rounds-out the Top Ten for CBS Films/eOne Films with $2.9 million in its fourth week out.
It was a tepid weekend at the Box Office, but CHAPPIE prevails as the Leader with a $13.3 million debut from 3,201 theatres for Sony Pictures. Made for $49 million, it shouldn’t be long before the Robot Action/Sci-Fi pays its tab. Critics didn’t think much of the Neill Blomkamp (District 9) Film with a 30% on the Tomatometer, but Audiences were more forgiving with a B CinemaScore.
After a #1 debut last week, FOCUS slips to second spot with $10 million for Warner Bros. In two weeks, it has grossed $35 million domestically.
THE SECOND BEST EXOTIC MARIGOLD HOTEL debuts in third spot with $8.61 million from 1,573 theatres for Fox Searchlight. Audiences gave it a B+ CinemaScore and Critics responded positively with a 64% on the Tomatometer. The Sequel bests the $6 million wide opening for its 2012 Predecessor. The Film is the second from Star Dev Patel who debuts with two Films in the Top Three this weekend – the other being CHAPPIE.
KINGSMAN: THE SECRET SERVICE shows staying powering, placing fourth with $8.3 million in its fourth week for 20th Century Fox. It closes-in on the $100 million-mark in North America.
FIFTY SHADES OF GREY slips to seventh spot with $5 million for Universal Pictures in its fourth week, grossing $152 million domestically.
THE LAZARUS EFFECT places eighth with $5.1 million for Relativity Media/D Films in its second week out.
UNFINISHED BUSINESS rounds-out the Top Ten for 20th Century Fox with $4.8 million from 2,777 theatres. Critics gave it 13% on the Tomatometer and Audiences gave it a B- CinemaScore.

Although we saw a small Teaser a while back for Robot Action Flick CHAPPIE, we didn’t expect it to be the suspenseful, high-octane affair that it truly is! You must see this new Trailer for what sure will be a big Blockbuster to get us out of the Winter doldrums.

It is tough not to get a bit emotional seeing the brand new Teaser Trailer for CHAPPIE. The latest effort from Director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) seems to hit all the right notes, looking every bit like the Family Blockbuster we’ve been in dire need of in quite some time!
