Details are under absolute lock and key for NBC‘s HEROES REBORN, which picks-up where the wildly-popular Series HEROES, about everyday People with super-powers, left-off when it concluded in 2010. And perhaps it is better this way as we wait eagerly with bated breath on more information to come. The 13-episode Series will film in Toronto from April through September, preceded by a Digital Series introducing us to new Characters.
We know this much for sure – original Stars Jack Coleman who played Noah Bennett, and Masi Oka who played Hiro Nakamura, will be reprising their Roles in this latest Incarnation. Add to that recognizable names like Zachary Levi, who has called Toronto a second home with his Wife Missy Peregrym being a Local, plus Rising Star Ryan Guzman who raised temperatures with his work in the Step-Up Franchise and more recently The Boy Next Door, opposite Jennifer Lopez. There also are several more emerging names like Gatlin Green, Robbie Kay, Kiki Sukezane and Shameless’ Danika Yarosh all whom surely will be recognizable after this Series surfaces. We have high hopes for this – giving Toronto some hope after what seemed like the longest lull in filming as we watched our Family in Vancouver and Montreal get all the high-profile Productions!
We spotted three Stars from HEROES REBORN in the City today as they prep for Production, including the friendly Guzman who stopped to chat and take Photos with Fans, signing Autographs generously, even having a friendly exchange with his Greeter. Mark our words – he is going to be a major Star. We love him already!
Green was seen with her guitar, friendly and shocked to have Fans already thanks to the great legacy of the HEROES Franchise. Sukezane likewise was kind to stop for a Snap. We are v. curious to know about these Actors’ Storylines and how they intertwine.
See some Snaps below!

Despite mixed Reviews from Critics, 20th Century Fox‘s HOME hits a home run with Audiences garnering not only an A CinemaScore, but also the top of the Box Office this weekend with a strong $52.7 million from 3,708 theatres. On the Tomatometer at Rotten Tomatoes, the Animated Feature which showcases the voicework of Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez, tallied-in at 48%.
Debuting in second with $33 million from, 3,175 theatres was Warner Bros.‘ raunchy Comedy GET HARD starring Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart. Critics didn’t think much of it with a 32% on the Tomatometer, but Audiences thought much more highly of it with a B CinemaScore.
INSURGENT continues to perform well in third in its second week out with $23.9 million this weekend. It was last week’s Box Office Champ. Thus far, the Action/Fantasy and second Film in The Divergent Series, has grossed $88.1 million domestically for eOne Films/Lionsgate Films.
CINDERELLA in its third week out earns $17.3 million for Disney, thus far earning $150 million in its North American run.
IT FOLLOWS expands to 1,218 theatres this weekend, good enough for fifth with $3.7 million for RADiUS (The Weinstein Co.)/Mongrel Media. In three weeks it has made $4.2 million.
THE GUNMAN rounds-out the Top Ten with $2.2 million in its second week out for Elevation Pictures/Open Road Films.
Among the several Productions to amp-up this City after a major lull is MINORITY REPORT, which picks-up after the 2002 Box Office-topping Steven Spielberg Film, starring Tom Cruise. Although it only is in the Pilot stage, things are looking rather promising for the slick-looking potential FOX Series starring Meagan Good (Anchorman 2, Think Like a Man) and Wilmer Valderrama (That 70s Show). The Pilot starts ten years after “Pre-Crime“. It focuses on a “Pre-Cog” who struggles to maintain a normal life, while being haunted by visions of the future. A Detective may hold the key to helping him understand his purpose.
Although Production wraps early this week, we are hearing that if the Series is ordered, it will indeed continue to film in the City.
Walderrama who came to the public eye as Fez in That 70s Show, simultaneously is working on a Series called From Dusk Till Dawn, filming in Texas and caught a red eye flight after a day of work yesterday. His work day today lasted 15 hours and I asked him how he does it. “Eating properly and exercising is really important”, he tells me. “I won’t be sleeping much tonight too as I have to prep for this too”, he says about another day of filming tomorrow. The Actor who is in a long-term relationship with Pop Megastar Demi Lovato, Tweeted that we can expect a transformation from him professionally this coming year, stating “This year, the next chapter of my life & career begins…”And we are anxious to see what he delivers.
Good, also appears on the verge of becoming a household name after starring in several Box Office Hits. The disarming Beauty tells me she had to shave her hair down for this current Role and the gorgeous Bob we will see her sport in the Series is actually a wig.
Walderrama and Good were really kind to stop after a long day at work, posing for a Photo for me in front of the famed CN Tower:
Earlier, some Fans spotted up-and-coming Actress Li Jun Li who stars in the Series as Akeela. She wrapped filming on the Pilot tonight and is eager for us to see the finished Product! She next can be seen in Jonathan Demme‘s Ricki and The Flash, which stars Meryl Streep. And of course we had to do Selfies, right?

Okay I was neither here nor there about James Corden hosting THE LATE LATE SHOW, but I’m completely won over! Mariah Carey appeared on the Show last night and somehow Corden managed to get her into his Van not only for a heart-to-heart chat, but also a majorly awesome SINGALONG!
Watch:
That’s basically my entire life dream right there. SINGING IN A FRICKIN’ CAR. WITH MARIAH CAREY. WITH HAND MOVEMENTS.
Almost as good is Tom Hanks‘ appearance earlier in the week where both he and Corden re-enacted in seven minutes every single Movie Hanks ever has made!

Toronto’s Matt Sadowski might better be known by Genre Fans as Bridge Carson (aka “Green Ranger“-turned- “Blue Ranger“) in popular American Series Power Rangers S.P.D. His latest effort which has him writing and directing, is touted as the quintessential “Non–Rom-Com“, and is set to premiere here in Toronto at the upcoming Canadian Film Fest.
PRETEND WE’RE KISSING centers around Benny (Dov Tiefenbach) and Jordan (Tommie-Amber Pirie), both brought together by a weekend romance. Benny has trouble making a real romantic connection, while Jordan on the other hand truly believes a magical love really can exist. Also enter in the picture the unemployed, bi-sexual Hippy Autumn (Zoë Kravitz) and what we have is an interesting Story driven by real, complex Characters.
We had the chance to chat quickly with Sadowski about PRETEND WE’RE KISSING. We talk about Family Life, Casting and some of his greatest challenges making this Film.
Tell us about your writing process. What inspired this “Non-Rom-Com”?
In traditional Rom-Coms, insecurities and failures seem easily overcome. There’s no real consequences. It’s not like that in the real world. In life you often don’t get a second chance to make a first impression. I wanted to make a Film that asked the Audience to reevaluate the notion of true love and destiny without being cynical or less optimistic about either. I believe you need to question these concepts in real life and found it was missing in the Romantic Comedies I enjoyed. With this Script, I was able to reflect on the reasons my previous relationships failed. When I was able to apply those learnings with someone worth sharing my life with, it all fell into place. And now we have been married for nine years and have two gorgeous Children. It all works out.
You have selected a v. eclectic Cast. How intensive was the search for the perfect Benny and Jordan, and how important was it that the two Leads were Canadian?
It was very important to me that my two Leads seemed real-worldly; authentic. People you would count as your friends, but maybe, just based on physically looks alone, weren’t the type you’d go gaga over at first site. Tommie filled in for an Actress that couldn’t make one of my early read-throughs. Sure, I think she’s beautiful, but I fell in love with her for her spirit and that’s what I was looking for. She was Jordan.
Benny was more difficult. When I first wrote it, the idea was that I would play him. It took 10 years to get the Film made, and since I am no longer interested in acting and the Character had evolved since the first draft – the only thing I knew was that I needed to find someone who may not look like me but had the essence of how I perceived myself in my less confident moments. Dov nailed that rhythm. We couldn’t be more different but when we first met, he and I had a very similar speaking rhythm to a point where I felt like I was taking to myself.
Zoë Kravitz certainly is a major Star on the rise. How did she come to be involved?
Zoë was someone on my list very early on, but there was another star that was attached. A few weeks before filming, the Actor who was attached had her series picked up for a second season and production wasn’t going to make it easy for us to get access to her. While I was searching for her replacement, I leaned on my actors for suggestions. Dov brought Zoe up as they are close Friends. I was familiar with her work in the X-Men Movie and A Funny Thing Happened. She was VERY different than the previous Actress, but she came in and she absolutely rocked it. Outside of her amazing talent, the reason she’s going places is because she’s a great, genuine Gal.
Juggling multiple caps, what was your greatest challenge in the filmmaking process?
In this Film, I really wanted to shoot and rehearse in a very particular way. My Producer (Peter Harvey), Cast and Crew worked incredibly hard to help me achieve exactly what I was looking for. I think every Film is an experiment, like a relationship, to grow from and apply what you’ve learned to the next. My biggest challenge has always been how to mix my love for collaboration vs being confident in my specific vision. This was an incredibly artistic challenge, but not as difficult as juggling production with a three month old Newborn at home. I certainly put a lot of stress on both myself (returning home from set, to be up all night with my baby Boy) and my Wife (essentially abandoning her at Crew Call). It was a crazy time.
We adore your Wife Deb, who heads one of the most influencial and successful PR Boutiques in the land. Describe for us striking that work-home life balance.
I adore her, too! That’s an interesting question as it’s a constantly evolving thing. We met through our passion for creativity. At the beginning it was easy to lean on that, but as our marriage and Family grew, our goals began to change. I think for anyone in a creative pursuit they have to have to love their Partner more than whatever Project they’re working on. She comes first for me and vice-versa. She is my Muse and I take her advice seriously.
We see that PRETEND WE’RE KISSING already is doing the Festival rounds. What to you would be a success?
Great question. I think that’s hard to gauge. The Person I needed to like it the most, already does. That’s me. I’m proud of it and really like it, and I have to say that I haven’t felt as satisfied with my earlier work. Do I want my Friends and Family to like it? Absolutely. Do I want Critics to love it – of course! But really, at the end of the day, it’s the People who are strangers to me that I hope enjoy it. That have no reason to like or dislike it other than their preference, not as a job or because they are related to me or grew up with me. Ultimately, I’ll judge if this Film was a success if it gives me the ability to make another.

Fans know and love her from way back on the star-making Cult Hit Series FREAKS AND GEEKS, but Linda Cardellini has proven she has the talent to survive in an ever-shifting Entertainment Industry. The beautiful Actress is in Toronto today in support of Netflix Series BLOODLINE, in which she stars alongside Kyle Chandler, Chloe Sevigny, Sissy Spacek and Ben Mendelsohn.
The Series centers on adult Siblings who discover some secrets after the Black Sheep of the Family returns. The Series just got released on the Internet’s most popular Streaming Service last weekend and the response has been positive, tallying-in strong at Rotten Tomatoes.
Cardellini also has had high profile turns on long-running Series ER and Mad Men, with memorable roles in Classics like Brokeback Mountain and Legally Blonde.
She appeared earlier today on Global Television’s The Morning Show (National Edition) and despite directives which are rare when promoting in this City, of being given to drive her underground, Cardellini graciously took a minute to roll down her window upon leaving after a momentary struggle with the power windows in her SUV. She was lauded by Fans as they got their Selfies with the kind-spirited Star who also waved at them through the window earlier at the Studio. It warms our hearts to see Talent do the right thing.
