Allison Williams is back after a stellar performance in 2017’s Oscar-winning GET OUT.

Synopsis:
The most buzzed-about movie at last year’s Fantastic Fest, THE PERFECTION is an elegant and terrifying suspense ride filled with unexpected twists and turns. When troubled musical prodigy Charlotte (Allison Williams) seeks out Elizabeth (Logan Browning), the new star pupil of her former school, the encounter sends both musicians down a sinister path with shocking consequences.

Overflowing with dizzying horror and sly dark humor, THE PERFECTION is directed by Richard Shepard (THE MATADOR, DOM HEMINGWAY, “Girls”), and written by Eric C. Charmelo, Nicole Snyder and Richard Shepard. The film will be released globally on Netflix Friday, May 24, 2019.

Kicking-off this past Friday, the first of two weekends at Coachella 2019 kicked-off in Indio, California. With headliners Childish Gambino, Billie Eilish, 1975, Khalid and Ariana Grande, plenty of surprises were unveiled, including the latter’s surprise performance with ’90s Boy Band supreme, *NSYNC for a rendition of Tearin’ Up My Heart! Her star-studded set also included an appearance by Nicki Minaj despite some technical difficulties.

During the first weekend, zedd in his set brought-out Katy Perry for a performance as a surprise for their new single, 365.

24-year-old Singer/Songwriter Alec Benjamin is on the verge of something big and if the success of his gorgeously-moody single Let Me Down Slowly is any indication of what’s to come, be ready for a lotta Alec. The Track which also has a version featuring Toronto’s Alessia Cara while released last spring, suddenly has caught fire, just entering the Top Forty in the U.K., achieving Platinum certification in Canada and Gold in the U.S.

He’s prepping the release of his debut album for Warner Music Canada coming this fall, Narrated for You and currently is bringing his Outrunning Karma Tour to theatres in sold-out numbers. Toronto was no exception. Not bad, considering he had a false start after being released from his contract with Columbia Records not too long ago. His career quickly has regained momentum and we had the opportunity to chat with Benjamin even though he was fighting a cold, prior to his show at The Mod Club.

The Phoenix native lost access to his data and was trying to get his iPhone X to connect without luck until venue Wi-Fi came to the rescue. I ask him what Instagram and Twitter are like for someone with hundreds of thousands of followers and it’s actually pretty much the same as it is for the rest of us. You see every single “like” and comment on the former, while the latter filters and groups things a bit more. I know now, I actually got to play on his accounts.

We ask him about Elon Musk, someone he really looks up to and epically getting a Tweet back from the technology entrepreneur after suggesting to him on Twitter, the idea of eco-friendly tour buses.

Benjamin: “It was pretty cool, because I’m a huge fan of his. There’s pretty much nobody in the world doing things that he is doing. And so I feel like he’ll be one of the most influencial inventors of our time, so to know that he knows that I’m alive, that’s pretty cool.” .

Himself fighting to stay healthy, we ask Benjamin about surviving the rigours of tour life.

Benjamin: “One of the struggles of tour life logistically, not just on your body, is how I understand what the tour bus is doing to the environment and I’m not the most caused-based person, but I do care about a lot of things. It’s difficult to reconcile the environment with the necessity of day-to-day life so I have to go out and tour and go out and burn gas and fly. Sometimes I feel like a hypocrite.” .

“I thought if I could get a tour bus that was eco-friendly, that’d be great so I’m gonna Tweet Elon Musk right now.”.

We ask Benjamin about his dream collaborations after having worked with Toronto’s Alessia Cara.

Benjamin: “Definitely Elon Musk” , he says semi-kiddingly. “I just wanna make better Music on my own first.”.

Benjamin‘s Music embodies a mood all its own. We wonder what we can expect from his forthcoming debut Disc.

Benjamin: “I think this batch of songs is gonna be slightly more mature than the last. A lot of those songs I’ve been saving for a while because I had a whole batch of Music I made when I was signed to Columbia Records and subsequently I was dropped from the label. I didn’t want to lose those songs, so as I was signing a new record deal, I got those songs back. I wanted a few of those songs to have a life on Narrated for You.” .

What’s next for Alec Benjamin?
Benjamin: “I’m just gonna keep touring and writing songs. It’s a constant struggle in my life to keep making music and try to stay happy. Maybe I’m just chasing something that doesn’t even exist. I’ll play this venue and then I get to the next one and I go maybe this one, that’s the one!”.

Happy Easter from our little Prince William and Princess! 🐇

It’s been a bit since we’ve checked in with you about our two stars.  MR. WILL or William as we like to call him around the barn, is progressing great for his Owner and Trainer Michelle Love, going for regular jogs around the Training Track at Woodbine with his sis, a sweet two-year-old filly by hot sire Souper Speedy, who is unnamed but known right now as Anastasia (yes, as in Fifty Shades of Grey).

Michelle tells us, “He’s doing great! They ran down the lane for an 1/8th (one furlong) for the first time yesterday”. It is exciting seeing the little guy put together the building blocks to becoming a racehorse. The two also went for their first walk today with the weather a bit nicer out finally, getting acclimated with the track and surroundings, which will be crucial later as part of their pre-race when they transition to the Main Track at Woodbine later.

He definitely is a good student and something about his introvertedness tells us he means business.  That aside, he is a bit of a cuddlebug and it made me so happy to see him warm-up to a Bunny plushie we brought one (one for his sis too, of course!).  His caretaker Jayne who adores him so much, nicknamed him “Sucky Face” for his adorable pout.  Michelle and I are actually shocked he hasn’t ripped it apart yet, so maybe he does have a gentle side!

Princess (A PIC BY MRWILL) continues to recover at her temporary home out in Caledon and we’re totally with her in her restlessness for some good weather. For the first time ever, I heard her let out a nicker, signalling her eagerness for time outside her stall. Emily Fisher continues to do an amazing job caring for her and it shouldn’t be long before she gets that vet clearance to be able to go outside again and just be a horse! She’s definitely earned it and we can’t to see her run free outside.

We recently stopped by for a visit and Princess got to spend time with both her moms Cathy and Emily. We could see how happy she was for a bit of us time, snacking on all her favourites after finishing up her dinner.

SHAZAM! prevails a second straight week, taking top spot at the Box Office with $23.4 million from 4,306 theatres for Warner Bros. Over two weeks it has made $93.1 million domestically, nearly recovering its $100 million production budget.

Debuting in second is LITTLE for Universal Pictures with $14.9 million from 2,667 theatres. It gets 50% on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore.

In third is the Reboot of HELLBOY $12.3 million from 3,303 theatres for VVS Films/Lionsgate Films. It gets 15% on the Tomatometer and a C CinemaScore.

Fourth spot goes to PET SEMATARY with $9.4 million from 3,585 theatres in its second week. It surpasses $40 million in its North American run for Paramount Pictures.

AFTER exceeds industry estimates of $5 million, debuting in sixth with $7 million from 2,138 theatres for VVS Films/Avion Pictures. The adaptation of Anna Todd‘s wildly-popular Young Adult novel, gets 13% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.

MISSING LINK opens in ninth spot with $5.8 million from 3,413 theatres for Elevation Pictures/United Artists Releasing. The latest Laika creation gets a great 88% on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore.

BEST OF ENEMIES rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.9 million for Elevation Pictures/STX Entertainment, a two-week tally of $8 million.

Fans of SUITS will love this! Introducing its Spin-off, PEARSON starring Gina Torres coming soon to W Network in Canada.

Synopsis:
Powerhouse lawyer Jessica Pearson leaves New York behind to take on the city of Chicago in this spinoff of the hit legal-drama, Suits. The former managing partner of Pearson Spector Litt is determined to make a difference as she navigates the corrupt and intimidating world of Chicago politics.

Additional cast includes: Bethany Joy Lenz (One Tree Hill), Simon Kassianides (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.), Eli Goree (Riverdale), Isabel Arraiza (The Oath) and Chantel Riley (Wynonna Earp).

The Writer/Director of MISSING LINK, Chris Butler, comes to the table with quite an impressive résumé. Nominated for an Oscar and a BAFTA for ParaNorman, his Stop-Motion genius can also be witnessed in Kubo and the Two Strings, Corpse Bride and Coraline. During our sit-down with him, we said how much we enjoyed the humour and Slapstick on-screen with MISSING LINK, he looked genuinely pleased and told us, “I’m glad you think so as that was the hope. I was influenced by that brand of humour. I was influenced by old silent movies and watched a lot of Harold Lloyd, Charlie Chaplin. Initially when I was talking to the studios about this Movie, I told them my intention was to do David Lean directs Around the World in 80 Days starring Laurel and Hardy. That was the hope, or my ambition.”.

I mentioned to Butler that one thing I enjoyed about his Movie was it brought me to mind of my childhood and watching those adventure TV shows with one exciting vignette to the next, but wondered if the sophisticated British-centric jokes and skits would fly above the heads of the much younger viewers and make them restless, to which he replied “Not really, I hoped that the Physical Humour alongside the more cerebral stuff hopefully was a good enough mix. The intention for me was always to have this be a Family Movie. For me, animation should not just be a babysitting device. I don’t want adults to plop down their kids and switch off. I want the family together get something out of this with a big smile on all their faces and give them something they all can talk about afterwards.”.

Butler then went on to great length on how important the Voice Actors are to the success of any kind of animated film. All animations start with the voices and that the animators need to hear the performance by the actors before they can start working on their craft and developing the physicality of the characters. The Voice Actor is creating a template of what and how the action should be. “There is something about voice acting that is the purest form of acting.”.

Butler also spoke enthusiastically and passionately about the future of Stop-Motion animation and how recent technological advancements and innovations will only enhance future productions and embrace this beautiful art form.

The germ of the idea for the Plot of MISSING LINK started 15 years ago and Butler kept notes in a book on how the story could progress. When asked what he has planned for his next project, Butler said “The Movie was literally finished a month ago and right now, with the publicity tour and all, when I close my eyes, all I see is MISSING LINK! I need right now for all that to dissipate.”.

One surprising thing I took away from the interview was the misconception that Stop-Motion films were more labour-intensive to create than traditional animated movies. Whereas both require hundreds of people working on the project (there were 450 people working on MISSING LINK), it was harder to find people skilled in the art of Stop-Motion and its search to find people led them to places like Russia and Denmark.

MISSING LINK is a sight to behold and a joy to watch with some phenomenal Voice Work from its A-List Cast.
