Now this one we’re super-stoked about! In 2003, Ong-Bak would revolutionize the way we looked at Martial Arts Films. Thai star Tony Jaa would become a breakout star not only in Asia, gaining legions of fans internationally with the Film being subtitled and released abroad. Since then he has appeared in Hollywood Blockbusters like Furious 7 and Skin Trade.
After growing-up watching the likes of Bruce Lee, Jackie Chan and Jet Li on the big screen, who would’ve known he’d go on to be as iconic as they? Now he is set to star alongside one of his idols, Li in upcoming third installment in the XXX Franchise, The Return of Xander Cage. The Film sees Cage (Vin Diesel) return after being presumed dead, tasked on a mission which puts him face to face with dangerous Rai (Li).
Jaa is the latest cast member in the action extravaganza to arrive in Toronto after Diesel sightings were reported on King Street West last weekend, him dining at Jacob’s Steakhouse. Others including Bollywood princess Deepika Padukone and Chinese-Canadian Megastar Kris Wu already have been spotted around town. Confirmed in the Cast are Samuel L. Jackson, Toni Collette, Ruby Rose, Conor McGregor and Nina Dobrev.
Just having celebrated his birthday a couple days back, Jaa arrived in Toronto a bit stunned by the cold weather. Understandable as he’s coming from the tropical climate of his native Thailand. He stopped and posed for Photos with random people detecting his immediate starpower. “Are you famous? Can I get a picture with you?”, asked a lady from the UP Express. Of course, he obliged. One Fan asked if he’ll be fighting Jet Li in The Return of Xander Cage and he replied, “You’ll have to watch and see!”.

Although many Moviegoers are home this weekend for Super Bowl, that couldn’t stop KUNG FU PANDA from being Master at the Box Office. The 20th Century Fox release for a second week in a row remains on-top with $21.1 million from 3,987 theatres in its second week out. It has made $69 million domestically thus far.
Debuting in second is the star-studded HAIL, CAESAR! with $11.1 million for Universal Pictures from 2,232 theatres. Critics gave the latest effort from The Coen Brothers a 79% on the Tomatometer, with Audiences giving it a surprisingly-low C- CinemaScore.
Former champ THE REVENANT slips to third with $6.9 million for 20th Century Fox, pushing its tally to $149.5 million over seven weeks.
STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS slips to fourth spot with $6.6 million, now in its eighth week out. To date it has made $905 million in North America.
Nicholas Sparks adaptation THE CHOICE opens in fifth with $5.7 million for eOne Films/Lionsgate Films. Critics gave it a 6% on the Tomatometer, but a much more promising B+ CinemaScore.
PRIDE + PREJUDICE + ZOMBIES opens in sixth with $5.1 million for eOne Films. The Jane Austen-Zombie Mashup gets 41% on the Tomatometer and a B- CinemaScore.
THE BOY rounds-out the Top Ten with $3.8 million for STX/eOne Films. The Horror has made $26.6 million in three weeks.
With Valentine’s Day just around the corner, what better way to say “I love you” than with something truly decadent? Not that we’d turn away flowers and chocolates in a heart-shaped box, but we’d really be wowed by some authentic Parisian Éclairs from NUGATEAU... not to be confused with a villain from Zoolander.
From the same Le Cordon Bleu-trained mind of Jelly Modern Doughnuts and Brick Street Bakery, Atul Palghadmal, comes Toronto’s first Éclair-only Patisserie situated right at discerning and tastemaking Queen and Bathurst.
The cute shop offering both savoury and sweet options are a cut above anything else we’ve tried in the city. The thin Pâte à Choux, identical to that you’d get in a proper Cream Puff, is filled with just the right amount of crème so not to spill-over into a catastrophic mess. We’ve been there.
We had the pure delight of trying Mango-Passionfruit, Matcha, Persian Pistachio and Raspberry, all which tasted equally as good as they looked. A closer examination reveals shimmery edible glitter on the glaze and we felt rather elevated eating the decadent Raspberry garnished with a real, thin gold flake.
A perusal of their savoury options has us v. intrigued. Smoked Salmon with Avocado and Wasabi Crème or Foie Gras with Truffle excite us deeply and are next on our list. And did we really see a Chinese New Year–themed Éclair too?!
We dare you not to be hypnotized. Watch at your own risk.
NUGATEAU is located at 717 Queen Street West, Toronto.

By George Kozera for Mr. Will Wong
In the interest of full disclosure, I must confess that I love soups. Every nationality and every culture has their own speciality, their own “heaven in a bowl”. Whether it be Borscht, Matzo Ball, Wonton, Billi Bi, Minestrone, Tom Yum, Avgolemeno, Gazpacho or, my favourite, Flaczki (Polish tripe soup). Soups nourish the soul. And is there anything more comforting than hot soup on a cold winter’s day?
Using a suite of Campbell’s products tweaked with fresh ingredients and spices, charismatic celebrity Chef Matt Dean Pettit, the founder of the Rock Lobster restaurants in Toronto, has created 4 tantalizing soups which will be served at a pop-up restaurant located at 501 Queen Street West.
THE CANTINA by Campbell’s will be opened from February 2nd to February 21st (11-8 weekdays, 11-7 weekends) and it is THE place to go to savour Pettit’s innovative menu. I sampled 2 soups on the menu. The Thai Chicken & Rice Khao Soi was robust and rich, enhanced with coconut milk, yellow curry and egg noodles. The Creamy Tomato Black Bean Taco soup was a symphony of tomatoes, lime juice, black beans and a spicy crema that would go well with a grilled cheese and lobster sandwich.
The collaboration of Chef Pettit and Campbell’s Canada is a gastronomical dream. And everyone who goes to eat at THE CANTINA by Campbell’s will be given a sticker to place on a wall. For each sticker placed, Campbell’s Canada will give a can of soup to the Daily Bread Food Bank where the goal is to provide 15,000 cans of soup.

Great food and a great cause! I plan to be back often; you will find me back slobbering and schlurping away!!!

Vanity Fair‘s annual Hollywood Issue is something we look forward. Once again Photographer Annie Leibovitz doesn’t disappointing, bringing together for a group portrait 13 of Hollywood’s most influencial women right now. We get also individual portraits which refreshingly aren’t overly-touched-up and we see women like Helen Mirren, Jane Fonda, Cate Blanchett, Charlotte Rampling, Alicia Vikander, Brie Larson, Jennifer Lawrence and Viola Davis as they really are. Missing interestingly is Amy Schumer? And where is Rooney Mara?
