Former Media Baron Conrad Black certainly needs little introduction, the Canadian-born who in 2001 became Lord Black of Crossharbour, prior to some well-publicized legal issues, culminating in a 42-month sentence for obstruction of justice and fraud.
Black is back and was seen out today promoting his latest Book RISE OF GREATNESS: THE HISTORY OF CANADA FROM VIKINGS TO PRESENT. The Book, Black had told CTV yesterday, addresses the lack of interest sometimes which Canadians have in our past and focuses in-depth on World War I and World War II, timed perfectly for Remebrance Day. He says, “Canadians slightly underestimate how interesting their history is.”.
Looking dapper, the 70-year-old stopped for a few Fan Photos upon arriving at Global Television‘s The Morning Show, taping am interview to be aired at a later date. “What? You want a Photo with me?” he asked me. “Sure!”.

In a bit of a shocker, BIG HERO 6 surpasses INTERSTELLAR to take the top of the Box Office this weekend in North America! The Family-oriented offering from Disney takes-in $56 million from 3,761 theatres, earning an A CinemaScore from Audiences which makes it highly likely that word of mouth will continue to spread for the Animated Feature. Critics gave it a decisive 91% also on the Tomatometer.
INTERSTELLAR debuts in second but certainly not shamefully with a stellar $52 million from 3,561 theatres for Paramount Pictures after opening only in IMAX on Wednesday. Despite high expectations, the latest from Dark Knight Trilogy Helmer Christopher Nolan, managed a 73% on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore. By comparison, The Dark Knight Rises opened in 2012 with $160 million and 2010’s Inception opened with $62 million.
GONE GIRL just keeps going with $6 million in its sixth week out for 20th Century Fox. It now has grossed $145 million domestically.
OUIJA settles in fourth in its third week out for Universal Pictures with $5.7 million. Cumulatively it has made $43 million stateside.
NIGHTCRAWLER slips to sixth in its second week for Open Road Films/Elevation Pictures with $5.5 million. In two weeks it has made approximately $20 million.
THE BOOK OF LIFE rounds-out the Top Ten with $3 million in its fourth week for 20th Century Fox.
18-year-old singing sensation Ella Henderson made huge waves internationally in 2012 with a stunning cover of Cher‘s Believe, which had even the timeless Diva herself taking to Twitter to endorse the then-Contestant on The X Factor UK.
The buzz continued to build with the likes of Adele, Lily Allen and Stephen Fry professing their love for her and although ultimately jaws dropped when she didn’t win, Henderson gets the final say topping the charts with Ryan Tedder-penned Ghost, her debut Single. Her debut Disc Chapter One also would see similar success and now the vintage fashion-obsessed Songstress has her sights set stateside where she continues to gain airplay.
Henderson made a rare visit to Toronto today after a visit for Press in New York earlier this week. Although she was under the weather, she still did interviews at Rogers’ Headquarters including a sit-down on The Erin & Mike Show at CHFI. Unfortunately, a scheduled live performance on-air had to be withdrawn as she battles illness.
The lovely Henderson and I had a friendly exchange, her Publicist kind enough to introduce us. After seeing little Billy, her face lit up saying, “Oh! He looks so much like Trixie!”, referring to her own Shih-Poo back home.
If you haven’t yet experienced the phenomenal vocals of Henderson, you may do so by enjoying her new Single Ghost below:
