#EDITORSNOTE: MR. WILL’S BEST OF 2017
2017 was another one for the books! Inasmuch as I sometimes fail to appreciate the wonderful things we have access to, it really isn’t until you look back that you realize everything you had. I’m humbled to have experienced so many amazing moments in 2017 whether it be Movies, Music or Celebs. Come join me as I walk down memory lane. While there is nothing but chaos in the world, sometimes this is all we have as an escape!
MOVIES
While we like to think that 2017 was only an ‘okay’ year for Movies, looking back at it all, we actually are quite pleased with the caliber of Films we saw. The year certainly was not short on quality and while the subject matter wasn’t as heavy as some previous years, our heart was filled with love by incredibly beautiful stories like Call Me By Your Name or fascinating escapes into the minds of the infamous like I, Tonya and Molly’s Game. We were dazzled by the magnificence of The Greatest Showman and don’t think we’ve ever laughed as hard as seeing the severely-underrated Girls Trip!

SONGS
While 2017 was a solid year for Film, I felt it was inversely a spotty year for Pop Music and believe me, I love Pop. I struggled to compile ten of my favourites reflecting the year.
As much as I wanted to dislike Taylor Swift‘s reputation Album, I found myself loving it more immensely the more I held back. And who’d ever have thought I’d have loved Harry Styles’ debut Disc as much as I did? It ranks still as my favourite Album of 2017 led by Sign of the Times. In addition to this, we loved discovering the OST to The Greatest Showman late in the year, which is track after track of infectious perfection. Dua Lipa also is an uncovered gem and we can’t wait for more from this stunning beauty.

Every year we tell ourselves that we’re ready to call it a day with all the Celeb Selfies but as the years pass, we find there’s always new heroes to meet. 2017 was a standout getting to meet several names I’ve longed to meet for many years now. This was the year I finally met Angelina, partied with Jamie Dornan, finally selfied with one of our faves, Sally Hawkins. These are just some of my favourite Celeb moments and believe me, there were many to choose from.

#BOXOFFICE: “STAR WARS” ON-TOP A THIRD WEEK
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI continues its Holiday Box Office domination with $55 million from 4,232 theatres in its third week out for Disney. It has made $537 million already to-date domestically.
JUMANJI: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE lands in second with $51.4 million from 3,765 theatres for Sony Pictures in week two . It has made $185 million thus far.
PITCH PERFECT lands in third in its second week $18.2 million from 3,468 theatres for Universal Pictures. It already has made $69.9 million in North America.
THE GREATEST SHOWMAN benefits from positive word of mouth in fourth spot in its second week making $15.4 million from 3,316 theatres, a total $54 million already for 20th Century Fox.
DARKEST HOUR is in sixth with $5.5 million for Focus Features/Universal Pictures. It has made $19.9 million over six weeks. It is playing in only 943 theatres.
ALL THE MONEY IN THE WORLD debuts in seventh with $5.1 million for Sony Pictures, from 2,074 theatres. It gets 77% on the Tomatometer from Critics and also an A CinemaScore.
THE SHAPE OF WATER rounds-out the Top Ten with $3.6 million from 756 theatres for Fox Searchlight. It has made $17.1 million domestically.

The real world may have been a complete nightmare in 2017, but the celluloid world was nothing short of incredible. Each month gifted us with exceptional films that continually surpassed any and all expectations. While there were some terrible stinkers sprinkled throughout, 2017 will go down as a banner year for cinema. There was something for everyone, from blockbusters to indies to everything in-between, and it was incredibly hard to narrow down a list of just 10 of those films. I could easily list 10-20 more genuinely outstanding pictures — it was really that great of a year. And while there is a dark cloud over Hollywood right now, I’d like to think this yearâs films prove that we are finally moving in the right direction instead of reliving the past.

These are the movies that moved me the most this year. Many of them performed poorly with regards to revenue and reviews. Nevertheless, I enjoyed them deeply, and in my own way. They are all passion projects that were beautiful to behold. So much so that I donât have an overall âfavourite.â I have âfavourites,â and I canât wait to find ten more in 2018.

I found it incredibly difficult to narrow down my list this year. Presented as always in alphabetical order, this list does not include Logan, Wonder Woman or Baby Driver but does include a movie that was criminally left off TIFFâs list for Canadaâs Top Ten. I included a comedy that had people falling off their seats and one that reflects what my family looks like. I also snuck in some early favourites to balance out my top two foreign films from TIFF ’17 and a late entry which blew me away. Finally, I rounded out my top twelve with a few hits from TIFF that will definitely be making a comeback during Oscar season.

My Top Ten are in no particular order. In my Top Ten there are Films that I found unique, told honest depictions of the human condition and/or pushed the boundaries of filmmaking. All the Films showcase outstanding acting, writing and direction done by all involved. These Films are in my Top Ten because no matter what time they came out throughout 2017 they have stayed with me until the end. And will probably stay with me throughout the years to come. Hope you enjoyed them if you have seen them. And I hope you seek out the ones you haven’t!

However if you can look past all the horrible things that have plagued Hollywood this year, there are plenty of quality films that hit the silver screen this year. #FIRSTLOOK: “JURASSIC PARK LIVE IN CONCERT”

There is something truly magical about seeing a movie you adore once again on the big screen. Words almost fail to describe that feeling you get when you experience a live orchestration of that Film’s Score in a concert setting.
Sony Centre for the Performing Arts is giving Jurassic Park the concert treatment and I had the pleasure of going to the first of two nights of this incredible experience. Prior to the presentation, the audience was treated to Behind the Curtain with Richard Crouse and Evan Mitchell, the Conductor for both this and the venue’s popular presentation of E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial.
Mitchell talks about the nuts and bolts of doing a live orchestration of a movie. We see them popping-up more and more and the reason why he says, is “I feel like theyâre a slam dunk.â. He adds âto have the music frame in frame is a difficult thing to do. Weâre not watching the film as we play. It becomes more mechanical for meâ and that he âonly looks up for key momentsâ.
The conversation then shifted to John Williams’ Score itself of Jurassic Park and Crouse had some interesting tidbits to share. For example, Williams has said that âhe wanted to write music that matched the rhythmic gyrations of the dinosaursâ according to Crouse, while Mitchell states âI believe he captured the character of the music and the dinosaurs very much”.
Now onto the main event itself. There is something surreal hearing Jurassic Park‘s Score play live as the helicopter scene to Isla Nebular unfolds. It sends chills through your body hearing this in-person as it takes place on the big screen. As well, the first appearance of the T-Rex paired with live orchestration is breathtaking, truly adding something new to the experience that you might have missed from just watching the Film in theatres or on television. If youâre a fan of Jurassic Park, this certainly is something you cannot miss.

#PRODUCTWATCH: 2017 HONDA ACCORD TOURING
It was a blue Christmas, literally. We were overjoyed this Holiday to reunite with our friends and family thanks to the 2017 HONDA ACCORD TOURING. This luxurious beauty in Vortex Blue Pearl not only was visually fetching, but performs just as flawless as it looks. Come snow, fog or slippery roads, we were armed with the peace of mind that we were in a vehicle that had not only my back, but also the backs of friends and family who traveled along with me.
With its 2.0 litre, 16-valve, Atkin Cycle DOHC, i-VTECŸ 4-cylinder engine, 143 horsepower and 128 lb.-foot of torque at 4000 rpm, we traveled with power and purpose through the City from the suburbs to downtown core, all the way to country where we spent some festive quality time with Billy and Princess in picturesque snows.
Being Torontonians, often we dream of a White Christmas and at long last we were gifted with that pleasure this year. We’ll always have the Touring to remember it all by, driving through a shower of snowflakes landing upon our windshield and moonroof.
With the beauty of snow sometimes come unsafe driving conditions and we never once doubted our safety with the Touring‘s Vehicle Stability AssistÂź guiding us through a couple close calls. A Collision Mitigation-Brake System™, Collision Warning System, plus dual-stage, multi-threshold air bags and a Smartvent ™ side airbags all are there for us in the event of anything ever going wrong.
Nailing all the marks, the Touring also is conscious and cost-efficient with its ECON mode and ECO ASSIST ™ System. We made it through Christmas with three separate one hour-plus drives outside the City on about $50 of gas. You can’t beat that.
The Touring is none the short on detail. Sleek, perforated leather-trimmed seats have driver and passengers sitting comfortably. All seats in the car have individualized temperature control which is an asset in these frigid conditions. Pardon the bun.
A charging plate, which sadly wasn’t large enough for our Samsung Galaxy S8 Plus was at our service, but still with multiple USB charging ports we were able to stay charged and connected at all times. None can deny the importance of being reachable when driving conditions are unpredictable especially during the Holidays.
We can’t get over how gorgeous the Car’s Display Audio System is as we toggled with ease between tunes on our phone’s playlists to Sirius XM™. Their Holiday Traditions station was pretty much the soundtrack of our Holiday and we unapologetically blasted that big band festivity from the Touring‘s 360-watt audio system with seven speakers and subwoofer.
We are a huge fan of the Touring‘s proximity entry. We don’t know about you, but we ain’t got time to fumbling for our keys! The remote key’s push-button trunk opening was super-handy whether we were lugging bags doing some last-minute Holiday shopping or transporting gifts.
This recipient of the 2017 Best Resale Value Awards for Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car certainly has earned its acclaim. The 2017 Honda Accord Touring is priced at $37,400 CAN. Learn more here.

#HORSERACING: A PIC BY MRWILL’S PRINCESS DIARIES (DECEMBER 2017)
It’s been a while since we’ve posted a Princess Diary, but on behalf of our dear filly A PIC BY MRWILL, we’d love to wish a Happy Holiday to you and your loved ones!
Princess along with her stablemates from the barn of John Ross, has been wintering out in Flamborough, Ontario under the amazing care of Miss Tasha and Mr. Clayton (seen below). It was a fantastic year for the Team who not only won the prestigious Prince of Wales Stakes with Cool Catomine, but nabbed also the top two-year-old race in Canada, the Coronation Futurity with Aheadbyacentury (also seen below). The latter is Florida-bound as he prepares for his Queen’s Plate Trail in 2018!
While Princess wintered in Florida last winter, she remains on stall rest healing from her injury and will be staying here until her training resumes in a couple months. She continues to grow and seemed well-adjusted, watching over her stablemates as the queen of her predominantly-male barn.
2017 was an amazing year where we not only saw Princess break through for the first time in a route race, but also great consistency from her bringing home a cheque six out of eight races!
Let’s re-live that special day in August again!
We’re excited to see Princess thrive in 2018 now that she finally is getting what this game is all about! We don’t believe she’s turning four already, which is like 20 in human years. Soon she’ll be a Woman!
Billy and I popped by along with some of our special friends to surprise her today with some festive cheer! She even got a new Teddy to snuggle with since she misses her Woodbine Teddy! 🐻 She missed Billy so much, showering him with kisses.

#BOXOFFICE: “THE LAST JEDI” RULES CHRISTMAS BOX OFFICE
In its second week out, STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI continues to power-on with a lead over the Christmas Box Office. By Christmas Day, it is projected to make $102.5 million from 4,232 theatres across North America, a total $399.1 million over two weeks alone for Disney.
JUMANJI 2: WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is expected to make $44.3 million by Christmas Day for Sony Pictures, from 3,765 theatres. It gets 77% on the Tomatometer and an A- CinemaScore.
PITCH PERFECT 3 also shows signs of life with a debut in third with $35.6 million earned 3,447 theatres by Christmas for Universal Pictures. The Franchise best still belongs to 2015’s Pitch Perfect 2 which opened with $69 million.
THE GREATEST SHOWMAN opens in fourth with $12.1 million, a total $16.7 million since its Wednesday opening for 20th Century Fox. It gets a 51% on the Tomatometer and an A CinemaScore.
DARKEST HOUR expands to 806 theatres for Focus Features/Universal Pictures with $6.1 million. Over five weeks it has made $9 million domestically.
THE SHAPE OF WATER since TIFF ’17 has been touted an Oscar Contender and it makes its way to ninth spot for Fox Searchlight with $3.5 million expanding to 726 theatres in its fourth week.
FATHER FIGURES rounds-out the Top Ten with $4.7 million for Warner Bros. in its opening from 2,902 theatres. It gets 22% on the Tomatometer and a B- CinemaScore.Â
