One of the most electrifying theatrical events of the last decade is finally coming to Canada. The internationally celebrated revival of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish with English subtitles arrives at Toronto’s historic Elgin Theatre from May 25 to June 7, 2026. Presented by the Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company (HGJTC), this landmark production is directed by the legendary Tony and Academy Award winner, Joel Grey.
Tony Award nominee and original Yiddish Tevye, Steven Skybell, is reprising his celebrated role alongside an all-Canadian supporting cast. Performed entirely in its original language with English and Russian subtitles, this landmark production has been described as a “revelation” for returning one of Broadway’s most beloved musicals back to its cultural roots in a powerfully authentic theatrical event.
“There is something profoundly moving about hearing Fiddler in Yiddish,” said Joel Grey. “The language carries history, humour, sorrow and resilience all at once. Like hearing opera in its original tongue, it deepens every moment. It allows the story to breathe with emotional truth.”
What began as a planned six-week engagement in New York in 2018 turned into an unprecedented 18-month sensation, earning a Drama Desk Award for Best Revival of a Musical and has been performed more than 500 times. Hailed by The New York Times and Los Angeles Times, the production has earned widespread acclaim and continues to resonate with audiences across generations, faiths and backgrounds.
Set in the Russian shtetl of Anatevka, Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish follows Tevye, a humble milkman navigating love, faith, and family as tradition collides with a rapidly changing world. While rooted in Jewish history, its themes of displacement, identity, and generational change feel strikingly contemporary and reflect universal human experiences that transcend cultural boundaries.
“This production has an uncanny ability to bring people together,” said Avery Saltzman, co-artistic director of Harold Green Jewish Theatre Company. “Audiences who do not speak Yiddish still feel every beat. The storytelling transcends language. It is visceral, funny, heartbreaking and deeply human.”
In an increasingly fragmented world, this story stands as a powerful unifying force—cultivating empathy, deepening cultural understanding, and giving voice to the wisdom passed from parent to child amid constant change. At a time when dialogue surrounding belonging, migration and cultural memory have never been more vital, the timeless, universal story of Fiddler on the Roof in Yiddish resonates with extraordinary power.
With Joel Grey at the helm, the creative team behind the much-anticipated Toronto production includes associate director Merete Muenter; associate director, production staging and choreographer Staś Kmieć; associate director and supertitle designer Matthew ‘Motl’ Didner; music supervisor Zalmen Mlotek; and music director Mark Camilleri. Scenic design is by Beowulf Boritt; costume design by Ann Hould-Ward; lighting design by Peter Kaczorowski andEthan Steimel; sound design by Dan Moses Schreier; and hair and wig design by Tom Watson. Casting is by Dayton/Walters Casting, CSA, CDC with Jamibeth Margolis, CSA consulting. The production manager is Ray Salverda.
The Toronto production includes an exceptionally talented cast featuring Steven Skybell; Joey Arrigo; Nick Boegel; Emma Burke-Kleinman; Eric Dahlinger; Jesse Drwiega; Jamie Elman; Gabi Epstein; Michelle Heisler; Isadora Kecman;Joshua Kilimnik; Jeremy Lapalme; Connor J. Exploring the undeniable chemistry, whirlwind courtship and high-profile marriage of one of the most iconic couples of the 20th century, FX’s “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” is set to premiere on Thursday, February 12, 2026 with an FX/Disney+ three-episode simulcast at 9 p.m. ET on Hulu on Disney+ in Canada. Following the premiere, one new episode of the nine-episode series will air weekly.
See the Trailer now here.
The first installment in Ryan Murphy’s “Love Story” anthology, FX’s “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” is a limited series inspired by Elizabeth Beller’s book Once Upon a Time: The Captivating Life of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.
It was a love story that captured the attention of the nation: John F. Kennedy Jr. (Paul Anthony Kelly) was the closest thing to American royalty. The country watched him grow from a boy to a beloved bachelor and media sensation. Carolyn Bessette (Sarah Pidgeon) was a star in her own right. Fiercely independent and with a singular style, she rose from being a sales assistant to an executive at Calvin Klein, and became a trusted confidante of its eponymous founder. John and Carolyn’s connection was immediate, electric and undeniable. As their love story unfolded on a national stage, the intense fame and media attention that came along with it threatened to rip them apart. Featuring Grace Gummer (Caroline Kennedy), Naomi Watts (Jackie Kennedy Onassis), Alessandro Nivola (Calvin Klein), Leila George (Kelly Klein), Sydney Lemmon (Lauren Bessette) and Constance Zimmer (Ann Marie Messina), “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” charts the complex and heartbreaking journey of a couple whose private love became a national obsession.
FX’s “Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette” is created by Connor Hines and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Connor Hines, Eric Kovtun, Nissa Diederich, Scott Robertson, Monica Levinson, Kim Rosenstock, D.V. DeVincentis and Tanase Popa. Max Winkler executive produced and directed the pilot episode. It is produced by 20th Television.

While we’re eagerly awaiting the soon-to-come arrival of the 2026 model, we were thrilled to test drive the 2025 MAZDA CX-90 PHEV GT, which was timely as we had a very active past week that included quality time with friends, red carpets, fine dining, star sightings, a polar vortex, and even a masquerade ball! Who’s life is this again? More in my highlight reel later.
This three-row Hybrid luxury SUV is equipped with four driving modes with it’s Mi-Drive technology: Normal (balanced), Sport (enhanced performance), Off-Road (traction management), and Towing (optimized for trailers). It runs on a 2.5L I4 e-Skyactiv Plug-In Hybrid engine, and a 17.8 kWh battery, and features a 323 horsepower powertrain, with standard i-Activ AWD. While it has the plug-in charge option, you also get 9.9/8.7/9.4 litres/100 km city/highway/combined fuel economy, which is comparable for SUVs of the CX-90′s caliber. For its electric range, you get approximately 42 km, and charging takes 1.3 hours for 20-80% charge (Level 2, 240V).
This tough ride is a good friend to have in these snowy conditions, ready to power through whatever obstacles Canadian weather is ready to throw its way!
While this SUV is sheer power, it possesses grace and luxury. Our vehicle was a stunning artisan red metallic, a colour for all seasons here in Canada, but it is its Pure White Nappa leather interior that exudes true class. An oversized panoramic moonroof just makes every day brighter and better.
The CX-90′si-Activsense safety features like Forward Collision Warning, Cruise and Traffic Support saving lives in the City and on the highway, with an incomparable a 360° View Monitor. There literally are no more blindspots when reversing and parallel parking, and let’s not forgot those blindspot monitors (and assist) and vehicle exit warnings, which are so handy! Traffic sign recognition helps you stay within speed limits and remain alerted.
In terms of airbags, you are covered from all angles with its front dual stage driver and front passenger airbags, front and rear side airbags, front and rear curtain airbags, front driver and passenger knee airbag, and also a passenger airbag deactivation system (auto-switch).
We also get several elevated features like an oversized 12.3″ infotainment display with a rotary HMI commander, an impeccable 12-speaker BOSE audio system, plus an abundance of USB-C charging ports, wireless phone charging and connectivity to Apple CarPlay/Android Auto. Our only comment about this during our test drive is that we wish the vehicle would remember its pairing to our phone as it became a bit cumbersome repairing every time we started the car. This, and on Android Auto, the display wasn’t responsive sometimes to touchscreen when we’d get options from Google Maps to “accept” or “decline” faster route options. I must also highlight how much joy Sirius XM Hits 1 gives me on my morning drives and the CX-90 has the option of this!
We also appreciated very much, its keyless remote entry and auto power folding mirrors. What would’ve taken it up a notch is walk-away auto-lock, especially for an SUV of this level that already is so loaded with features.
Mazda Canada really are considerate not only of the Driver experience, but also the Passenger experience. Front-row and second-row passengers get personalized climate control, and above this, they get heated seats which is so needed amidst this prolonged deep freeze we’re experiencing in the GTA and abound.
The 2025 MAZDA CX-90 PHEV GT retails starting at $64,350 CAN. More here.
