Season 10 Big Brother Champ Dan Gheesling certainly has built quite the following here in Canada. The Michigan Native who was a Catholic School Teacher prior to his fame, has visited Toronto on multiple occasions and currently he is in town to co-host Global Television‘s The Morning Show for the week.
We were fortunate to meet him on his way into the Studio today and both he and his Wife Chelsea were kind enough to stop for a quick second.
Season 16 of Big Brother premieres on Global Television tonight at 8:00 PM.

If you loved THE BLIND SIDE (we did!!!!), THE GOOD LIE certainly will be right up your alley. With two Oscar Contenders – the other one being WILD – attached to her name, this Fall looks to see the rise again of one of America’s Sweethearts, Reese Witherspoon!
Official Synopsis:
They were known simply as “The Lost Boys.” Orphaned by the brutal Civil War in Sudan that began in 1983, these young victims traveled as many as a thousand miles on foot in search of safety. Fifteen years later, a humanitarian effort would bring 3600 lost boys and girls to America. In “The Good Lie,” Philippe Falardeau, (writer and director of the Oscar®- nominated Foreign Language film “Monsieur Lazhar”) brings the story of their survival and triumph to life. Sudanese actors Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal, and newcomer Nyakuoth Weil, many of whom were also children of war, star alongside Academy Award® winner Reese Witherspoon and Corey Stoll.

It may have taken a while for the World to discover him, but Stage, Voice and Film Actor Josh Gad really is on the up-and-up in the land of Hollywood. Shortly after getting a TONY Award nomination for his work as Elder Cunningham in acclaimed The Book of Mormon on Broadway, he was Cast as Olaf the lovable Snowman in Disney‘s 2013 Runaway Box Office Smash, Frozen.
Gad currently is in Toronto and to be here through end of Summer filming Home Alone Director Chris Columbus’ latest effort, Pixels. The part-animated/live action Flick stars Peter Dinklage, Michelle Monaghan, Kevin James and Producer Adam Sandler. The Film sees a group of Experts called upon to thwart an attack of New York City by Video Game Characters!
We by chance spotted Gad out with his lovely Wife Ida Darvish earlier this afternoon unexpectedly! He was super-nice as expected and the response from lucky Fans who’ve spotted him around town MuchMusic Video Awards weekend, has been unanimously positive! The Couple were later seen hauling a dolly of groceries from Whole Foods walking along unassumingly as Onlookers struggled to figure why it is he looked so familiar!
This of course isn’t the Funnyman’s first time in Toronto, having filmed star-spawning The Rocker here in 2008 opposite Rainn Wilson. The World would see the likes of Emma Stone, Bradley Cooper, Christina Applegate, Will Arnett, Jason Sudeikis, Jane Krakowski, Jane Lynch and more go-on to see significant profile boosts soon after.
2014 looks to be a big year ahead with a couple more Films on the way for Gad including Zach Braff‘s much-publicized Kickstarter Film Wish I Was Here (soon to be released in Canada via eOne Films) and also The Wedding Ringer opposite red-hot Kevin Hart!
Sony Pictures’ Pixels is slated to film in the City till early September. We popped by the Set a couple weeks back to check it all out! More here.

Oh, hey LeAnn!

In yet another battle of the Sequels at the Box Office this weekend, Think Like a Man debuts atop the Box Office with a stellar $30 million from 2,225 theatres for Sony Pictures, just like its 2012 Predecessor did in its opening! Starring Kevin Hart, Taraji P. Henson, Meagan Good and Regina Hall, the Comedy got little love from the Critics, tallying-in with 22% on the Tomatometer, but Audiences were more than forgiving, giving it an A- CinemaScore. The Film was made for $42 million and looks to be just one in successful Franchise.
22 Jump Street continues to perform impressively and just because it lands in second in its second week out, it by no means goes down shamed, only narrowly getting edged-out for top spot. It earns a fantastic $28 million from 3,306 theatres this weekend for Sony Pictures, as positive word-of-mouth continues to spread from Moviegoers for the well-reviewed Sequel.
In third spot this weekend is How to Train Your Dragon 2 with $25 million for 20th Century Fox. It inches in its second week close to the $100 million-mark already domestically.
Based on the TONY-winning Musical, Jersey Boys has a lukewarm opening for Warner Bros. with $13.5 million from 2,905 theatres. Reviews likewise for the Clint Eastwood-directed Film were mixed, earning a 55% on the Tomatometer and inversely, a great A- CinemaScore.
Maleficent finds itself in fifth spot with $12.5 million for Disney in its fourth week, now having grossed $185 million in North America.
The Fault in our Stars brings-in $9 million in its third week out for 20th Century Fox, just shy of the $100 million-mark domestically.
Chef rounds-out the Top Ten for Open Road/VVS Films with $16.8 million, now in its seventh week out.
ONE WORD: MAGICAL.
Just watch:
We’ve long been touting the brilliance of Sam Smith. And if this Cover of Whitney Houston‘s How Will I Know doesn’t win you over, we don’t know what will. The fact also that this Song still sounds fresh is a true testament to its timelessness!
We were one of the few lucky enough to meet Smith in his Toronto visit earlier this year. More on that here.

The ’80s were good to Child Star Macaulay Culkin, who rocketed to international fame with Home Alone and its massively-successful Sequel. That popularity carried over to the ’90s with him starring in heartbreaking My Girl opposite Anna Chlumsky, who has seen a resurgence of late with her role on acclaimed Veep. Where has Culkin been, many wonder?
Well, he’s certainly in Toronto right now partkaing in the fun of the Comedy-focused NXNE Festival, and the Actor-turned-Musician has been turning heads with his The Velvet Underground Parody Band, The Pizza Underground. Comprised of five Members, the New York based Band has been doing the Festival Circuit and in addition to surprising with a performance on a TTC Streetcar last night, they played a show at Lee’s Palace.
Earlier today, they played a surprised show at Edward Day Gallery on Queen Street West. Despite being an hour late as Festival Crew fumbled to keep their prop Pizza from collapsing and ensuring that microphones were working, Fans were rewarded with free Pizza from Panago and Vitaminwater.
“Don’t get your hopes too high”, says Frontwoman Deenah Vollmer. “This is about as good as it gets”. She makes it clear early on that their musical ambitions are geared towards fun, the Band craftily substituting Pizza-inspired lyrics of the famous American Rock Band to which they pay homage.
Culkin is seen on-stage alternating between percussion (Pizza Boxes are not spared!) and the Kazoo, enthused and focused on entertaining in sunglasses and the Audience knows now to be too harsh, sedated by their charm and the carbs of the three varieties of pizza offered. I liked the Chicken most. And will be the first to admit I actually had fun!

After receiving much praise at TIFF ’13, Richard Ayoade‘s THE DOUBLE soon will see a Canadian release and both D Films and Mr. Will want to give Readers across Canada a chance to win Run-of-Engagement Passes to see it!
Official Synopsis:
Inspired by Dostoyevsky‘s Novella of the same name, THE DOUBLE is a Dark Comedy written by Ayoade and Avi Korine (Mister Lonely), a funny and frightening story about an insignificant man driven to near breakdown by the appearance of his Doppelganger.
Simon (Jesse Eisenberg) is a timid Man, scratching out an isolated existence in an indifferent world. He is overlooked at work, scorned by his Mother, and ignored by the Woman of his dreams (Mia Wasikowska). He feels powerless to change any of these things. The arrival of a new Co-worker, James (also Jesse Eisenberg), serves to upset the balance. James is both Simon‘s exact physical double and his opposite – confident, charismatic and good with women. To Simon‘s horror, James slowly starts taking over his life.
