TUNER arrives in theatres May 29, 2026! Today we get a new Trailer for this tiff50 selection.
Director: Daniel Roher
Starring: Leo Woodall, Havana Rose Liu, and Dustin Hoffman
In Tuner, Academy Award-winning director Daniel Roher’s first narrative feature, Leo Woodall stars as a gifted young piano tuner whose heightened sense of hearing draws the attention of criminals, who see his talents as useful for opening safes as well as for tuning Steinways. With his once-promising musical career over, he works across New York with his mentor Harry Horowitz (Academy Award-winner Dustin Hoffman), encountering a range of characters, including composition student Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu), with whom he forges an unexpected connection. Niki’s safecracking work threatens his budding romance with Ruthie and pulls him into increasingly dangerous territory. Blending romance, drama, and the taut suspense of a heist thriller, Tuner also features performances from Tony Award-winner Tovah Feldshuh, Lior Raz, and Jean Reno

Filmed right here in Toronto, Academy Award winner Daniel Roher gets a full circle moment with his Thriller TUNER premiering at TIFF ’25. The Film centers on Niki White (Leo Wooddall), a once aspiring Pianist whose aspirations were curtailed as he developed a condition that made him sensitive to noise. Niki translates his skills unexpectedly, using his special abilities to hear, the help mobsters execute their heists being able to hear safe combinations. He meets a talented pianist in Ruthie (Havana Rose Liu), though she has no awareness of this double life he heads.
Wooddall solidifies his standing as a certified leading man after wowing many of us in The White Lotus Season Two. He beautifully balances Niki‘s unreconciled failure together with an ambition to win Ruthie‘s heart, all while navigating his challenging condition that both helps him and harms him at once. Liu also delivers a tremendous performance as a woman all-in to secure her future as a professional pianist, her focus thwarted by this looming relationship with Niki. Our only complaint is an under-utilized Dustin Hoffman as Niki’s grandfather Harry.
Roher makes a successful transition to fictional storytelling, keeping us invested in Niki’s trouble and resilience. TUNER screens TIFF ’25 as follows:

How cool is it that this is filming in our City? Toronto’s Daniel Roher already has established himself as an Oscar-winning Filmmaker with his Documentary NAVALNY. He tries his hand at fiction with TUNER, a Crime Thriller filming around town which centers on a piano tuner who realizes his skills also can be applied towards cracking safes!
You know how much I adore HBO‘s THE WHITE LOTUS and we still haven’t forgotten English Actor Leo Woodall‘s amazing turn as Jack in season two of the acclaimed series. After stealing hearts on Netflix‘s ONE DAY, he steps-up to a leading role here in TUNER, having not long ago wrapped on NUREMBERG alongside Michael Shannon, Rami Malek and Russell Crowe. But most excitingly, he stars opposite Renee Zellweger in next year’s BRIDGET JONES: MAD ABOUT THE BOY. This is huge!
And did we mention that Woodall’s Co-Stars in TUNER include two-time Oscar winner Dustin Hoffman and rising star Havana Rose Liu (Bottoms, No Exit)?
Woodall has been spotted around town on weekends as his partner Meghann Fahy, who also starred in The White Lotus’ second season, has been in and out of the City visiting. They were spotted around Ossington together, turning heads!
So thrilled to finally meet Woodall as he was filming in St. James Town, so kind to stop for a selfie after a long day on-set. Liu also was on-set that day, and I’m ecstastic to have met her too. Have loved everything I’ve seen her in so far. Cannot wait for TUNER, which gets a Canadian release through Elevation Pictures.
