“You saw things you should’ve have seen”.
We absolutely love Emily Blunt and after seeing this Trailer, we’re thinking this could well be the Film that gets her an Oscar. French Canadian Master-Helmer Denis Villeneuve‘s latest SICARIO (which means “Hitman” in Mexico) looks every bit the Oscar Contender and here’s your gritty first look.
Synopsis:
FBI Agent Kate Macy (Emily Blunt) gets a first-hand view into the world of international drug trafficking between the U.S. and Mexican border when two members of a government task force (Benicio Del Toro, Josh Brolin) draw her into their plan to bring down a Mexican drug lord.

Absolutely no doubt about it, we’re willing to bet it all that this will be at TIFF ’15!

How INHERENT VICE has remained off our radars this long is a bit of a mystery, but brilliant Director Paul Thomas Anderson‘s latest effort is about to be seen next month at the New York Film Festival, where it is set to debut. Seen in this just-released still is a barely-recognizable Reese who must be applauded for re-inventing herself. Fall 2014 is slated with a triple-punch from the Oscar Winner with WILD, THE GOOD LIE and now THIS! Joaquin Phoenix always makes our day and it’s awesome seeing him in something more on the comedic side here.
Official Synopsis:
When private eye Doc Sportello’s ex-old lady suddenly out of nowhere shows up with a story about her current billionaire land developer boyfriend whom she just happens to be in love with, and a plot by his wife and her boyfriend to kidnap that billionaire and throw him in a loony bin…well, easy for her to say.
It’s the tail end of the psychedelic `60s and paranoia is running the day and Doc knows that “love” is another of those words going around at the moment, like “trip” or “groovy,” that’s being way too overused—except this one usually leads to trouble.
With a cast of characters that includes surfers, hustlers, dopers and rockers, a murderous loan shark, LAPD Detectives, a tenor sax player working undercover, and a mysterious entity known as the Golden Fang, which may only be a tax dodge set up by some dentists… Part surf noir, part psychedelic romp—all Thomas Pynchon (who wrote the Novel which the Film is based upon).
First of all, did we read right? ERIC ROBERTS?! Who not too long ago was in Toronto filming Suits?!? Can we say career resurgence??! This looks positively too good to be true.
Secondly, can we name the Cast? Look at this: Joaquin Phoenix, Katherine Waterston, Reese Witherspoon, Jena Malone, Owen Wilson, Benicio Del Toro, Eric Roberts, Maya Rudolph, Martin Short and Josh Brolin. The last time we see Phoenix and Witherspoon on-screen together, Oscars got handed out…

Was that Josh Brolin ordering a Pancake in Japanese? That’s how you know you’ve found a Winner!

Back in 2004 I remember being so totally obsessed with Robert Rodriguez‘s Adaptation of Frank Miller‘s SIN CITY. I had the Poster on my wall and I may have called-in a Sickie at work to watch it. Although it took nine frickin’ years to happen, its long-awaited Sequel is well on its way and just released is the Trailer for SIN CITY: A DAME TO KILL FOR!
Synopsis:
The Town’s most hard-boiled citizens cross paths with some of its more reviled inhabitants.
Cast (including many returning Members) includes: Josh Brolin, Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Rosario Dawson, Jaime King, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Dennis Haysbert, Jamie Chung, Bruce Willis, Eva Green, Julia Garner, Ray Liotta, Juno Temple, Jeremy Piven and Stacey Keach. Did I mention Lady Gaga makes an appearance? Those of us scratching heads at her Muppets Holiday Special Collabo with Gordon-Levitt, might understand a little bit better now.

Getting his first big break in 1985 Classic The Goonies, success as one of Hollywood’s top Leading Men was a long, arduous journey. After appearing off and on in several TV roles, Josh Brolin finally received the plum assignment of a well-noticed Supporting Role in Best Picture-winning No Country for Old Men as Llewelyn Moss, directed by the Coen Brothers. Since then, there’s been no turning back for the handsome son of Actor James Brolin and Stepson of Barbra Streisand.
Brolin in recent memory has starred in several memorable roles including a widely-acclaimed performance in W. as George W. Bush. 2008 Drama Milk saw him go-on to garner an Academy Award nomination for his Role has the hot-headed Dan White, opposite Sean Penn. 2010 would see him in another pivotal Role, re-teaming him with the Coen Brothers’ in their Remake of True Grit, which went on the garner a whopping ten Academy Award nominations.
The Actor has had a high-profile year in 2013, starring in $105-million-grossing Gangster Squad, Spike Lee‘s Arthouse Remake of Oldboy and next, Jason Reitman‘s Labor Day. The latter widely was acclaimed at TIFF ’13, seeing Brolin fly-in to Toronto to promote the Film. Paying back a favour, he participated in a Live Read of Boogie Nights hosted by Montreal-born Reitman which drew big laughs at Ryerson Theatre.
I had the immense pleasure of finally meeting Brolin after admiring him on the Big Screen for years and he was everything I’d imagined – fun-loving, spirited and charming. Every occasion I spotted him, whether he was out attending a Junket for Labor Day or on his way to a party, he always was giving to Fans. On one occasion I saw him roll-down his window (top left), point his finger at a Fan, taking his name and making an arrangement to take a Photo with him later in the day. He actually fulfilled his promise.
Despite being paired with one of the most iconic Actresses of our time in Kate Winslet, much of Labor Day is carried by Brolin‘s heartfelt performance – at once volatile, at once gentle as an escaped Convict Frank Chambers, taking shelter with Single Mom Adele Wheeler (Kate Winslet) and her young Son, Henry (Gattlin Griffith).

With great sadness, we must say farewell to another TIFF. And with fatigue, a limp in my right foot and great pain in my neck today after a gruelling run these past 11 days, I look back at the happy times, the regrets and what TIFF ’14 might hold. Despite all these mixed emotions, I know it won’t be long before I’m begging for more! I live for the Toronto International Film Festival – the greatest in Film Festival the World – and wouldn’t rather be anywhere else.
Here’s a look back at some of the Highlights for me of the Festival in Compiled Lists:
MR. WILL’S MOST GRACIOUS 10
Anyone who encountered these Stars up-close and personal during TIFF ’13 can vouch that they deserve a warm round of applause for the respect, appreciation and courtesy they’ve shown our City. Whether it be Jessica Chastain‘s consistent grace and humility towards her Fans, Brad Pitt‘s surprise Red Carpet appearance in which he took several Photos with Fans at the 12 Years a Slave Premiere, Hugh Jackman stopping in the rain outside the Press Conference for Prisoners to meet and great all his Supporters individually – these Stars understand exactly what the Festival is all about for us Fans!
1. Jessica Chastain
2. Sandra Bullock
3. Tom Hiddleston
4. Daniel Radcliffe
5.. Brad Pitt
6. Josh Brolin
7. Hugh Jackman
8. Jennifer Aniston
9. Nicolas Cage
10. Emma Thompson
MR. WILL’S SUCCESSFUL 6
These six Films gained a great amount of buzz and momentum coming out of TIFF ’13 in advance of their forthcoming Awards Season Best Picture Campaigns. Sadly, August: Osage Country didn’t wind up getting critical love universally (I enjoyed it much!) hoped for, but it still remains a major Contender in the Acting categories – especially for a heartbreakingly-absent Queen Meryl Streep.
1. 12 Years a Slave
2. Labor Day
3. Dallas Buyers Club
4. Prisoners
5. Gravity
6. Rush
MR. WILL’S EMERGING 5
These five up-and coming Stars caused quite a stir wherever they spotted around TIFF ’13. This time next year, expect to know them pretty much on a first name-basis.
1. Benedict Cumberbatch
2. Emilia Clarke
3. Daniel Brühl
4. Jai Courtney
5. Taylor Schilling
MR. WILL’S NAUGHTY LIST
Although we try to keep things positive here, we remain hopeful that next time these Stars visit our City, they show us a bit more Fan Appreciation – not just only when the Cameras are on – than they showed this year. Little things like picking-up a Sharpie or taking time to pose for Photos with Fans, or maybe not distancing themselves a 15 feet from the Barricades where their Fans had queued for hours to see them, would be a first step. In all fairness, some had hyper-assertive Handlers or lateness to blame.
1. Benedict Cumberbatch
2. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
3. Scarlett Johansson
4. Mila Kunis
5. Emilia Clarke
MR. WILL’S FASHIONABLE 5
These Stars certainly made a Statement whether it be out and about in our City or on the Red Carpet. I still cannot get over Kitsch‘s gray-on-gray Suit he wore at the Premiere of The Grand Seduction and certainly was a bit obsessed with Toni Collette‘s new Bangs. Julia Roberts was a Vision in her Dolce & Gabbana Dress at the Premiere of August: Osage County too, but my favourite look was Sandra Bullock at the Gravity Premiere in Narciso Rodriguez!
1. Sandra Bullock
2. Julia Roberts
3. Taylor Kitsch
4. Toni Collette
5. Jessica Chastain
And who exactly did Mr. Will got a Photo-with at TIFF ’13?
Ben Cotton, Dane Cook, Jason Reitman, Josh Brolin, Nicole Kidman, Anika Noni Rose, Bill Condon, Donnie Wahlberg, Paul Wahlberg, Jack Huston, Tom Arnold, John Torturro, Lauren Lee Smith, Sami Gayle, Mary Walsh, Saoirse Ronan, Michael C. Hall, Tye Sheridan, Katie Boland, Aaron Abrams, Kelly Rowan, Daniel Radcliffe, Taylor Schilling, Effie Exarchopoulos, Dan Stevens, Daniel Brühl, Alicia Vikander, Tom Hiddleston, deadmau5, Carice Van Houten, Tom Welling, Vanessa Paradis, Michael Bolton, Alice Cooper, Taylor Kitsch, Toni Collette, Dakota Fanning, Jai Courtney, Ciaran Hinds, Jessica Chastain, Emilia Clarke, Jared Harris, Adelaide Kane, James Lafferty, Jennifer Morrison, David Arquette, Alfre Woodard, Ryan Kwanten, Catherine O’Hara, Mark Boone Junior, Will Forte, Emma Thompson, Cara Gee, Demian Bichir, Jude Law, Tom Wilkinson, Alfonso Cuaron, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Thompson (again!), Lea Seydoux, Robert Baker, Amanda Walsh, Adam Driver, Keanu Reeves and Nicolas Cage.

…until next year, Wongsters!

A bit of a slower day today on the Photo front, Wongsters! It rained and rained and rained and finally after subsiding a bit I think we’re good to go again. We did spot some pretty exciting names though today, thus far!
Kate Winslet is just too perfect. Love her and it tears me apart that my first time seeing her today was under less than ideal circumstances. The Academy Award Winner arrived at her Press Conference for Labor Day (premiering tonight at Ryerson Theatre), throwing over a quick wave to Fans before being rushed in. On her way out she rolled down her window quickly and threw a hand wave. Mesmerized.
Josh Brolin, who stars opposite Winslet in Labor Day under more ideal circumstances would’ve given more to Fans, but I managed to get this Snap of him waving goodbye through a sea of Umbrellas to Fans after completing a Press Conference for the Oscar-buzzed Drama by Director Jason Reitman.
By total chance, I crossed paths with the lovely Jennifer Garner as she was downtown doing a bit of shopping. Mrs. Ben Affleck was seen without the Mr. and it is said she enjoyed a Salad for lunch today in advance of her Red Carpet Premiere for HIV-Drama Dallas Buyers Club in which she stars opposite Matthew McConaughey.
Although not here for TIFF ’13 specifically, they sure timed it well. Brothers Donnie and Paul Wahlberg arrived in Toronto today to promote their upcoming upscale Burger Restaurant, WAHLBURGERS, meeting Fans at the Soho-Metropolitan Hotel today. After running out of Burgers quickly, the rest of the Fans were given Gift Cards for future purchase of a Burger when the first Canadian location opens in 2014!
Funnyman Tom Arnold made a surprise appearance at the Roy Thomson Hall Premiere of Mike Myers‘ Documentary, Supermensch: The Legend of Shep Gordon today and he was spotted out and about partying this evening, much to my surprise. The former Husband of Roseanne Barr was even awesome enough to stop to pose for Pics!
Jack Huston is definitely an emerging Talent to come into TIFF ’13 with a significant amount of buzz. The Nephew of Danny Huston and Anjelica Huston stars in Kill Your Darlings, which premieres tomorrow night at Roy Thomson Hall. He has been seen most recently on HBO‘s Boardwalk Empire.
Perhaps one of the biggest surprises we’ve seen at TIFF was ’90s Megastar Crooner Michael Bolton out partying tonight with his Buddy, Toronto Director Paul Haggis (second below), who presents his latest work Third Person, a Romantic-Drama starring Olivia Wilde and Liam Neeson Monday night at VISA Screening Room! Both Bolton and Haggis were extremely gracious to stop and pose for Fans.
Maroon 5 Frontman debuted his first Feature Film, Can a Song Save Your Life tonight at the Princess of Wales Theatre. The handsome Singer was spotted at the uber-trendy Patria following his Premiere before calling it an early night. He soon will begin mentoring duties on the fourth Season of NBC‘s The Voice, premiering late September.
Still going strong, Director-Actress Couple Eli Roth and Lorenza Izzo are back at TIFF again this year with Green Inferno, premiering at the Festival’s Midnight Madness Program tonight. The two were spotted heading together to their Premiere. They certainly are not Strangers to Toronto having filmed Netflix‘s Hemlock Grove here last year.
Dane DeHaan‘s star is rising rather fast and in addition to starring in Kill Your Darlings alongside Daniel Radcliffe, he stars this time as Harry …Osborn in Amazing Spider-Man 2. The Actor was here last TIFF with The Place Beyond the Pines.
The stunning Freida Pinto is in Toronto partaking in the TIFF ’13 festivities and word is, she is raising awareness for an Indian Film Festival in development in the City. Definitely one of the few Actresses I know who can pull-off orange so effortlessly.
Actor/Director John Turturro and French Actress/Singer Vanessa Paradis (formerly Partner of Johnny Depp) were seen partying together in support of their TIFF ’13 Film, Fading Gigolo. Both were awesome to stop and interact with Fans tonight.

We definitely didn’t sleep much last night and now we’re up and at it again!
After spotting him out and about last night, Colin Hanks was up and at ’em early this morning doing a Photo Call for his TIFF ’13 Film, Parkland in which he stars as one of the Doctors responsible for trying to save President John F. Kennedy. Not much Fan love though today as he was quick to throw a handwave and go. Saving it for the Red Carpet tonight perhaps?
Canadian Actor Ben Cotton was all smiles walking over to his Photo Call for Family Drama Cinemanovels, debuting tonight at Scotiabank Theatre.
Jennifer Beals certainly hasn’t aged one bit since her Flashdance days. She stars in Cinemanovels, which premieres tonight and was gracious to stop to sign some Autographs for Fans, wishing them a great day.
Canadian Beauty Lauren Lee Smith stopped to chat with Fans before arriving at a Photo Call for Cinemanovels, premiering tonight at TIFF ’13, sporting an amazing new Haircut.
Double Academy Award-Nominee Jacki Weaver just might get another nomination for her intense performance in Parkland, starring as the Mother of JFK‘s Killer, Lee Harvey Oswald. Here she is arriving at her Photo Call.
Zac Efron without fail always draws screams wherever he goes and such was the case as he surprised at a Photo Call for Parkland, premiering tonight at TIFF ’13. Efron plays a Doctor in charge of saving the late JFK‘s life and he was great to stop to sign some Autographs for Fans after promising to do so after a rushed arrival.
Funnywoman Kristen Wiig always brings a smile to our faces, and did just that today arriving at the Premiere for her latest Film Loveship Hateship at the Princess of Wales Theatre. What a Beauty! Too bad she missed half of the Fans who lined-up hours to meet her when signing Autographs.
Sami Gayle might seem an unfamiliar face, but the Blue Bloods Star surely appears to be developing quite a Fan Base judging by the cheers and screams for her as she arrived on the Red Carpet for the Premiere of Loveship Hateship. She was lovely to make time for many of her Fans, crossing the road amidst Street Car Traffic to greet them.
