In an historic event, AVENGERS: ENDGAME knocks it way out of the ballpark with a $356 million opening this weekend in its debut at the Box Office! It plays at 4,662 theatres (widest release of all time) for Disney/Marvel and along with those numbers comes great acclaim, as it reaches 96% on the Tomatometer for Critics, while achieving a super-rare A+ CinemaScore. The previous highest opening of all time in North America belonged to 2018’s AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR with a $257.6 million debut and it might a while before we see another Film open to these numbers. In Canada, it sets a record as the highest opening ever for a Film according to Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Canada, taking-in $28.9 million. Globally, it will hit $1.2 billion+ this weekend.
CAPTAIN MARVEL gets a bit of resurgence, bit still a v. distant second, with $8.3 million from 2,435 theatres for Disney/Marvel also, bringing its run to $413.8 million domestically over eight weeks.
THE CURSE OF LA LLORONA lands in third with $7.8 million for Warner Bros., a two week total of $41.5 million in North America.
BREAKTHROUGH places fourth with $7.2 million it its second week, a total $27 million in two weeks for 20th Century Fox
SHAZAM! is in fifth with $5.6 million, a total $131.2 million for Warner Bros. over four weeks.
PENGUINS rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.1 million, a total $5.7 million grossed for Disney over two weeks.
The purple carpet was rolled out for the Canadian Premiere of AVENGERS: ENDGAME at Scotiabank Centre. The fourth and final film in the Avengers franchise and 22nd film set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is projected to smash Box Office records this weekend in its debut, already earning $107 million worldwide before its release. It takes place after the destructive events that take place in AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR after Thanos’ (Josh Brolin) snap of a finger which leads to half the living being wiped-out. We see the band of surviving superheroes come together to undo the destruction, including Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.), Steve Rogers (Chris Evans), Natasha Romanoff (Scarlett Johansson), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), James Rhodes (Don Cheadle), Scott Lang (Paul Rudd), Clint Barton (Jeremy Renner), Nebula (Karen Gillan), Okoye (Danai Gurira) and Rocket (Bradley Cooper). For the first time ever, Carol Danvers aka Captain Marvel (Brie Larson) appears in the Avengers franchise.
This tour-de-force finale from Joe and Anthony Russo would have made Marvel mastermind Stan Lee proud. It runs high on action and emotion and cannot be missed, even if you have missed some installments of the MCU!

This is it. Marvel has released the final trailers for Avengers: Endgame, the final instalment of the current crop of Marvel superheroes. The 182-minute feature will tie up the loose ends of Infinity War and will show how the heroes interact – especially those who have been featured solo since the last Avengers instalment, such as Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. But, once the dust of the final battle has settled and stars such as Mark Ruffalo and Chris Evans have hung up their superhero costumes (or green paint in Ruffalo’s case), how can we get our fix of supernatural crime fighting in lycra?
Other Superhero Films
Spider-Man, the Tom Holland version, is set to star in at least another film, so that particular hero will be around for fans to continue to engage with. Meanwhile, Gambit, Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants are also set to be released by Marvel, allowing a different crop of heroes to rise to the fore. It may be blasphemy, but fans can always head over to DC – Wonder Woman’s prequel is set to be released, as is Birds of Prey, a film about DC‘s group of superheroines and Harley Quinn. For some Marvel fans, jumping ship to their rival might seem like sacrilege, but both houses of superhero offer something different enough for most audiences to enjoy equally. So, while people may be mourning the loss of a certain crop of Avengers, established heroes such as Aquaman and Wonder Woman will be keeping the DC fires burning. Plus, the Marvel heroes arguably changed the game for what a superhero movie could be – so we may see a different take on some of the superheroes going forwards.
Superhero Gaming
Superheroes are defined by their speed, agility, and fighting prowess – traits which offer themselves perfectly for gaming. Online slots offer plenty of options for engaging with all kinds of superheroes. The most popular slots in Canada are developed by Microgaming, NetEnt and Play ‘n Go, and they regularly harness the draw of our favorite characters – 60s Batman, The Avengers, Iron Man, Wolverine and Green Lantern – matching it with this form of gaming, which is so popular it accounts for 50% of online gambling globally. Just because some of the heroes in their current incarnations have been retired doesn’t mean their game avatar versions also have to. But this is just one way we can revisit our iconic heroes by the power of games. For instance, the Mortal Kombat boss has announced that they want to develop a Marvel vs DC version of the fighting game, which will see absolutely every character from both franchises together to battle it out.
Avengers: Endgame is likely to be the cinematic event of the year and rightly so. We’ve welcomed these heroes into our lives for a decade and want to see some of them drift away into the sunset happily. But, for diehard fans, fear not – after all, how many versions of Superman and Batman have graced our screens? While we wait for the reboots and spin-offs of our Avengers, there are still plenty of ways to connect with superheroes.
The new Trailer for AVENGERS: ENDGAME has just debuted following-up of Thanos’ destructive snap. Surely you didn’t think that was it, did you? Captain Marvel also surfaces here!
Synopsis:
The grave course of events set in motion by Thanos that wiped out half the universe and fractured the Avengers ranks compels the remaining Avengers to take one final stand in Marvel Studios’ grand conclusion to twenty-two films, “Avengers: Endgame.”

Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Canada certainly is always at the thick of it when it comes to blockbuster releases and once again they do not disappoint as they unveil their upcoming slate of releases at their annual Holiday Preview.
After the release of Ralph Breaks the Internet, a timeless beloved family movie gets a Sequel in Mary Poppins Returns. Emily Blunt and Hamilton’s Lin-Manuel Miranda star in this highly anticipated sequel featuring live-action and a throwback to the original animation style as well.
Coming in 2019, we have two massive Marvel movies coming up, there is Captain Marvel starring the incomparable Brie Larson, which will be the big release that fills the audience in on a major character for Avengers 4.
After Captain Marvel, we wrap-up phase three of the Avengers Saga with Avengers 4. After Thanos’ snap wiped-out half of the Avengers, the remaining Avengers have to stop Thanos and hopefully fix the damage he has done.
Take us to May 2019 and we have the hotly-anticipated Sequel to Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: We Still Don’t Know The Title Unfortunately. It is hard to hype-up a movie that made a record-breaking amount of money and has achieved all the success, but we all know that this final entry into phase three will be a game-changer.
Tim Burton is back! Those words excite me more than they should, but Dumbo looks like it is going to be in the vein of typical Burton and that sounds absolutely incredible. The Trailer that dropped earlier last week speaks volumes to how gorgeous this newest Dumbo film will be and the Cast look incredible, it is however Darker but that is stylized like Burton’s other works.
Artemis Fowl based on the best selling book series and Noelle are also coming out in 2019 from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Canada.
The Sequel to Frozen will also make its debut in late 2019, and that is not even the most shocking Sequel on this list. Toy Story 4 dropped two teaser Trailers, introducing a few new characters to the mix while also bringing back all of our favourite characters. Let me tell you June 21st, I will be sitting in a theatre watching Toy Story 4 multiple times and loving every second of life. Moreover, The Lion King is getting the live-action reboot with Jon Favreau at the helm, and if that doesn’t excite you then I don’t know what will!
Disney also will be releasing the last entry into the Skywalker Saga, Star Wars Episode IX. There is literally nothing that needs to be said about this. It will shatter records, it will anger fans, people will cry, everyone is going to see it. Personally, I’m excited for a new saga, but am truly intrigued by how the Skywalker saga will conclude.
SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY tells the competition, landing at the top spot this weekend at the Box Office with $92.6 million Friday to Sunday. The Disney release plays in 4,381 theatres this U.S. Memorial Day weekend. While Critics were lukewarm on it giving it 71% on the Tomatometer, it maintains its standing with Audiences getting an A- CinemaScore. This places this installment in the Franchise as the fifth-highest opening for a Star Wars Film. The top spot still belongs to 2015’s The Force Awakens with $247 million.
In second is DEADPOOL 2 with $41.2 million from 4,349 theatres for a two-week tally of $216 million for 20th Century Fox.
AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR finds itself in third with $15.3 million in its fifth week, a total $624 million grossed to-date for Marvel/Disney.
BOOK CLUB is in fourth with $9.6 million, by no means disgraced considering the company it is in for Paramount Pictures, a total $34.6 million in two weeks.
LIFE OF THE PARTY is in fifth for Warner Bros. with $4.9 million, a total $40.2 million.
RBG rounds-out the Top Ten with $1.2 million from 415 theatres for Mongrel Media/Magnolia Pictures, a four week total of $5.7 million.
DEADPOOL 2 is v. much alive! The latest Marvel entry takes top spot in its opening with an outstanding $132.1 million from 4,349 theatres in North America for 20th Century Fox. It gets 84% on the Tomatometer and an A CinemaScore from Audiences. Its Predecessor set a record for highest R-rated opening ever for a Film with $132.4 million and this one falls just shy. Numbers still are yet to be finalized.
Slipping to second is AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR with a healthy $28.2 million for Marvel/Disney. Over four weeks it has grossed $598 million domestically.
BOOK CLUB opens in third with $13.4 million for Paramount Pictures, playing in 2,781 theatres. It gets 59% on the Tomatometer and an A- CinemaScore.
LIFE OF THE PARTY tallies in fourth spot with $7.8 million for Warner Bros., a two-week total of $30.9 million.
SHOW DOGS opens in sixth spot with $5.3 million from 3,145 theatres for eOne Films/Global Road. It gets 26% on the Tomatometer, but a great A- CinemaScore.
Rounding-out the Top Ten is Ruth Ginsburg Documentary RBG with $1.2 million.
In its third week out, AVENGERS: INFINITY WAR still is showing no signs of stopping as it takes the top of the Box Office yet again with $60 million from 4,474 theatres across North America for Disney/Marvel. It has made $546 million thus far in its run, the second-fastest rise of all time to the the half-billion mark.
LIFE OF THE PARTY debuts in second with $17.4 million for Warner Bros. from 3,656 theatres. The Melissa McCarthy-starring Comedy gets 41% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
BREAKING IN opens in third with $14.4 million from 2,537 theatres for Universal Pictures. The Thriller starring Gabrielle Union, gets 29% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
A QUIET PLACE finds itself in fifth with $6.1 million for Paramount Pictures. Over six weeks, it has made $169 million domestically.
TULLY is in eighth with $2.3 million for Universal Pictures/Focus Features, a total $7.2 million made over two weeks for the Jason Reitman Film.
BLOCKERS is at the bottom of the Top Ten with $1.05 million for Universal Pictures, a tally of $58 million over six weeks.
