Zach Cregger’s RESIDENT EVIL opens huge this weekend with $55 million from 3,684 theatres for Sony Pictures. This is the Franchise’s biggest opening ever, its best belonging previously to 2010’s Resident Evil: Afterlife with $26.6 million. Critically, it also is a huge hit with 95% on the Tomatometer.
Second goes to PRACTICAL MAGIC 2 with $10.8 million from 4,163 theatres, a two-week total of $48.6 million for Warner Bros.
SPIDER-MAN: BRAND NEW DAY takes third with $6.5 million for Sony Pictures, an eight-week run of $944.3 million.
THE ODYSSEY is in fourth with $5 million, taking it to $609.8 million for Universal Pictures.
COYOTE vs. ACME rounds things out in fifth with $4.2 million for VVS Films/Ketchup Entertainment, a total $54.5 million in its fourth frame.
