Paramount Pictures Canada release BEN-HUR Friday, August 19, 2016.

JASON BOURNE takes the top of the Box Office in its debut, continuing its Franchise’s legacy of success with $59 million from 4,026 theatres for Universal Pictures. In relation to its Predecessors, it still cannot surpass the $69 million opening of 2007’s THE BOURNE ULTIMATUM but is second best, firmly ahead of 2005’s THE BOURNE SUPREMACY. Critics gave it a 56% on the Tomatometer, but Audiences loved it with an A- CinemaScore.

After dominating last weekend, STAR TREK BEYOND takes second position with $24 million for Paramount Pictures. In two weeks, it has grossed $105 million in North America.

Opening in third for STX Entertainment and eOne Films is BAD MOMS with $23.7 million from 3,215 theatres. The Comedy starring Mila Kunis, Kathryn Hahn and Kristen Bell gets a strong A CinemaScore, while Critics gave it a passing 63% on the Tomatometer. This definitely will help give it legs to go on in coming weeks.

THE SECRET LIFE OF PETS still is going strong in fourth with $17 million for Universal Pictures. Over four weeks it is almost at the $300 million-mark.

ICE AGE: COLLISION COURSE is in fifth with $10.9 million for 20th Century Fox, a total of $42 million in two weeks.

LIGHTS OUT continues to be the “little engine who could”, powering along in sixth with $10 million for Warner Bros. Made for less than $5 million, the Horror is now en route to $42 million in earnings.

NERVE opens in ninth with $9 million for Lionsgate Films/eOne Films. Since its opening Wednesday it has made $15 million. Critics gave it a 56% on the Tomatometer, while Audiences gave it an A- CinemaScore.

CAFÉ SOCIETY rounds-out the Top Ten with $2.4 million from only 565 theatres for Lionsgate Films/Amazon (a rare partnership) and Mongrel Media. The Woody Allen Film get a 71% on the Tomatometer.

DreamWorks Pictures + Mr. Will want to take Readers to see THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS, based on the best-selling Novel by M.L. Stedman and starring Alicia Vikander and Michael Fassbender. You haven’t lived till you’ve had a Cupcake from KELLY’S BAKE SHOPPE!  The brainchild of mother/daughter duo Kelly Childs and Erinn Weatherbie, the Burlington bakery has stamped itself among the World’s best purveyors of the sweets, let alone the fact their goodies are highly-conscious of food sensitivies and did I mention, vegan?

I get it – the thought of the words “gluten-free” or “vegan” often conjur images of the tasteless and bland but the truth of the matter is you wouldn’t realize you were eating anything of the like how substantial, rich, dense and moist these baked goods are.  Everything on the Menu from their signature Cupcakes, to Cookies to Donuts and Brownies is worth the trek to Burlington.

After doing a fair bit of press lately in support of their new Cookbook MADE WITH LOVE, we made the journey west and were thrilled to meet the incredibly-busy Childs who was at the store that day! She came on out to greet Billy and I, concerned for Billy‘s hydration in the heat.  Clumsily, I dropped my cupcakes, smearing the icing allover their plastic container and she was so gracious to replace them for me even.  We took a Selfie and she was just so gracious for the support! Let’s make it clear, these Cupcakes are the best in the land.

Flavours rotate daily with new offerings depending on the Holiday,  but my favourites are Coffee Break, Birthday Cake, Root Beer Float and Black and White.  You must also try those Snickerdoodle Cookies, the Mile-High Brownie and of course their Cinnamon Sugar Donut.  Sweets that good are deserving of a quality coffee pairing and they brew only Balzac’s.

It’s Joey Bats! Toronto couldn’t be more lucky to have its star right-fielder José Bautista back in action after a toe injury.  While the Toronto Blue Jays were performing fine without the star, who has been at the center of much discussion of late as a pending free agent.  With an impending non-waiver trade deadline due on August 1, 2016, it seems unlikely our trademark Batflipper will be traded.

Prior to heading-out to participate at the annual José Bautista Celebrity Golf Classic, he did some press including a stop at Breakfast Television on CITY, arriving an hour past his originally-scheduled 7:00 AM appearance. Opting for a hidden entrance to the appearance, he more than made up for his tardiness, rewarding Fans with autographs and Selfies before leaving in an unsuspecting vehicle.

We admit, we don’t know much about Baseball, but Bautista has helped us understand and want to learn more! He better not be going anywhere!

We love Bryce Dallas Howard  and were thrilled upon learning she’d be in town again! We loved her being horrible and nasty in The Help and 50/50 most. Although Howard really has taken her time focusing on building a quality Résumé as an Actress, while balancing parenthood, things really are taking-off quickly for the daughter of beloved Ron Howard.

While she’s been here for TIFF in the past, she now is here to promote upcoming 3-D Remake, PETE’S DRAGON from Disney. She was last seen in record-breaking Blockbuster JURASSIC WORLD and will be seen again in its 2018 Follow-up.

Howard had a full day of press lined-up starting early at KISS 92.5, heading over to CITY‘s Breakfast Television and later Bell Media for The Social and eTalk. Despite being in a bit of a rush, the low-key star made sure to snap a Selfie and sign Autographs for all her Fans. Class Act. And this is why we love her.

She’s the real deal. Although it’s been a good minute since we’ve heard from Bridgit Mendler, we’ve always thought highly of her.  Girl can sing (we really mean it!), girl can act and of course, she’s a great person.  Here to help launch the first ever WE (as in WE Day) Store at Eaton Centre in Toronto, the 23-year-old got her break with roles on popular series Good Luck Charlie and Wizards of Waverley Place.  A few years back she released a disc on Hollywood Records before focusing on her studies at University of South California.  She even plans to get a doctorate degree!

The WE store is the first time Cadillac-Fairview ever has allocated retail space to a charity. The shop offers ME to WE products that empower people to change the world with their everyday consumer choices.
