SYNOPSIS:

The 2022 Canadian Screen Award Broadcast Gala, now in its tenth year, was held tonight virtually, airing on CBC and CBC Gem, concluding Canadian Screen Week celebrations. Taking home top honours in the Television categories was CTV‘s TRANSPLANT including wins for Best Drama Series; Best Lead Actor, Drama Series for Hamza Haq; and Best Lead Actress, Drama Series for Laurence Leboeuf.
Shasha Nakhai and Rich Williamson’s Scarborough – based on Catherine Hernandez‘s Novel – led the Film categories, winning a total of eight Canadian Screen Awards including: Best Motion Picture, presented by CBC; Achievement in Direction; and the John Dunning Best First Feature Film Award, which comes with a $25,000 cash prize, courtesy of the John Dunning Foundation.
In the Digital categories, Obsidian Theatre’s 21 Black Futures took home four wins, including: Best Web Program or Series, Fiction, presented with the participation of the Independent Production Fund; and Best Lead Performance, Web Program or Series for Lovell Adams-Gray.
Wynonna Earp based on fan votes, took the Cogeco Fund Audience Choice Award, the first time the Award was given in the Television category this year. Treehouse TV’s Miss Persona won the Shaw Rocket Fund Kids’ Choice Award.
Also, eight special awards tonight were given to those who have made significant contributions to the industry. Honourees included Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Bob Cole; Gordon Sinclair Award for Broadcast Journalism recipient Rassi Nashalik; Radius Award (presented by MADE | NOUS) recipient Maitreyi Ramakrishnan; and the inaugural recipients of the Changemaker Award: Kayla Grey, Kathleen Newman-Bremang and Amanda Parris.

After having rocketed to worldwide recognition in 2015 after getting his big breakthrough on BRITAIN’S GOT TALENT, Calum Scott has built a lasting, successful career as a Singer/Songwriter. He blew our minds with his cover of Robyn‘s “Dancing On My Own” and then made us fall in love with his official debut single “You Are the Reason”.
Though this isn’t his first time in Toronto, we made sure we got to go see him this time, supporting tourmates The Script at Massey Hall. While we’re waiting for the follow-up to his 2018 Debut ONLY HUMAN, he has teased us with some new material including “love is just a word (ft. Jasmine Thompson)” and “If You Ever Change Your Mind”.
We love our Ballads are love Scott. So amazing finally meeting him! Fun fact, Scott was working in HR before he went on to stardom!

Toronto’s Alex Elliott got a celebratory return home to Toronto after spending some time in L.A. Just as he arrived back, he learned that Hulu/YTV Series THE HARD BOYS, in which he stars as Joe Hardy, won a Canadian Screen Award for Best Children’s or Youth Fiction Program or Series. Director Melanie Orr also won for Directing. The second season of the Series just premiered last week in Canada on YTV! While we’re awaiting news of a third season, the Series continues to pick-up momentum and we wouldn’t be surprised if it’s here to stay for a while! Such a great guy! And he loved that I was rocking the merch!
Hit DC Comics Series TITANS began production on its fourth season late February and continues into the Summer in Toronto. Star Brenton Thwaites was spotted back in the City reprising his role as Dick Grayson/Nightwin/Robin. The Australian star was on a quick break from filming, returning back to work as his wife Chloe Pacey and three kids, remain back home. He was rocking two hats and was styling! Always nice seeing him, he’s so kind to fans.

SONIC THE HEDGEHOG 2 races its way to #1 in a stellar opening, making $69 million from 4,234 theatres for Paramount Pictures! This bests the $58 million its predecessor made in 2020. It garners 68% on the Tomatometer.
Second belongs to last week’s #1 movie MORBIUS, which earns $10 million for Sony Pictures, a two week total of $56.8 million.
THE LOST CITY lands in third with $9.7 million from 3,797 theatres for Paramount Pictures, a tally of $68.9 million to date.
Michael Bay‘s AMBULANCE debuts in fourth with $8.1 million from 3,412 theatres for Universal Pictures. It gets 69% on the Tomatometer.
THE BATMAN is at the bottom of the Top Five with $6.6 million for Warner Bros., a six week total $358 million.

Tom Hiddleston is set to star-in and produce Apple TV+‘s Limited Series THE WHITE DARKNESS retelling the adventures of Henry Worsley.
Synopsis:
“The White Darkness” is inspired by the true life account of Henry Worsley (played by Hiddleston), a devoted husband and father, a former soldier, a man of deep honour and sacrifice, but also a man deeply obsessed with adventure, manifesting in an epic journey crossing Antarctica on foot. Starring Tom Hiddleston as Worsley, this is a spellbinding story of courage, love, family and the extremes of human capacity.
“The White Darkness” will be produced for Apple TV+ by Apple Studios and UCP. In addition to Hiddleston, Hugh, Heyman, and Kang-Lowe, the series is also executive produced by Caroline Garity of Blue Marble Pictures. This marks the second partnership for Hugh, Blue Marble Pictures and Apple TV+ following the recently premiered, broadly and critically hailed series “Pachinko,” which Hugh wrote, produced, and showran, and Kang executive produced, and is currently in-season on Apple TV+. It also marks the second partnership for Apple TV+ and Hiddleston who will next star in upcoming Apple Original series, “The Essex Serpent.”

Emmy Award-winning Series RUSSIAL DOLL is back for Season Two and here’s the new Trailer!
Synopsis:
Set four years after Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) escaped mortality’s time loop together, season two of RUSSIAN DOLL will continue to explore existential thematics through an often humorous and sci-fi lens. Discovering a fate even worse than endless death, this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations, the New York City subway. At first they experience this as an ever-expanding, era-spanning, intergenerational adventure, but they soon discover this extraordinary event might be more than they bargained for and, together, must search for a way out.
The Emmy-winning show returns with Lyonne serving as showrunner and executive producer, and is also executive produced by Alex Buono, Amy Poehler (Paper Kite Productions), Leslye Headland, Lilly Burns (Jax Media), Tony Hernandez (Jax Media), Dave Becky (3 Arts), Kate Arend (Paper Kite Productions), Regina Corrado, and Allison Silverman. Noomi Rapace is set to star in Psychological Thriller Series CONSTELLATION, coming soon to Apple TV+.
Synopsis:
“Constellation” will star Rapace as ‘JO,’ a woman who returns to Earth after a disaster in space — only to discover that key pieces of her life seem to be missing. The action-packed space adventure is an exploration of the dark edges of human psychology, one woman’s desperate quest to expose the truth about the hidden history of space travel and for her to recover all that she has lost.
