“I had to take a closer look at myself to make this record and sing about things I normally wouldn’t sing about,” says Charlie on Whatever’s Clever! “Audiences knew my music more than they knew me because I never really gave them a chance to know me. This is the chance.”

Immersed in classics from Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, and Philip Bailey, embracing sounds like the Yamaha CP70 and experimenting with techniques during sessions at his home studio, “I knew I wanted to make a rich, warm, and big-sounding record,” he states. and found the perfect collaborator in co-producer BloodPop®

“BloodPop® pushed me to use sonics I hadn’t touched before, to sing about subjects I’d never sung about, and write songs that might’ve made me uncomfortable in the past,” he admits. “The best singers don’t flawlessly sing on pitch, the guitar goes out of tune, or the record skips. If A.I. is going to take over the world, we decided to be as human as possible. It only took a couple of songs with BloodPop® pushing me, then I was pushing myself.”

Last night, the multi-Diamond and award-winning artist appeared as the lead guest and performer on ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live!, performing his latest single “Sideways” alongside Coco Jones. A blissed-out ’90s-inspired R&B love song, “Sideways” features Puth’s close friend and collaborator Coco Jones, who first joined him to debut the track live during his Blue Note LA underplay shows last winter and also appears on the official studio version.

“I started playing in my studio, and Kenny whispered to me, ‘You should really let Mike play because he’ll play something you wouldn’t play’,” he remembers. “It was the best advice ever. My mind was just blown when they each sang, but they are the humblest guys ever. To me, it’s like a classic record from the seventies or eighties.”

“Until It Happens To You” splices spoken word from Jeff Goldblum into a sunny and upbeat Charlie anthem. The legendary actor’s words practically ping-pong in spiritual harmony with vocals boosted by choir harmonies.

“Thematically, you’re watching a loved one go through hardship,” he notes. “This person has guided you through so much turbulence. The tables have turned though, and you need to help. Jeff wasn’t acting. He did a non-memorized monologue where he was speaking from the heart to his two young boys—one of whom is named Charlie.”

For the first time on “Hey Brother,” he directly addresses his younger brother Stephen. He urges, “I wish you could see in you what you see in me.” Charlie states, “I’m telling Stephen, ‘You’re always going to be my brother.’ I see the potential in him like he sees greatness in me. It’s not the most comfortable thing for me to sing about, but he hopefully has great comfort from it. He’s his own person.”

Puth concludes on Whatever’s Clever!, “I’m back to who I always was, I tried on a lot of different outfits and styles, but I believe everything happens for a reason. With a ring on my finger, I’m the happiest I’ve ever been and the most at-ease. These are real songs. They’re about my brother, my dad, my wife, and people who aren’t in my life anymore that I thought I needed. This is finally me.”

CASH CAB is back for its 10th season with 26 all-new episodes where unsuspecting passengers become instant contestants on the hit game show on wheels. Hosted by Adam Growe, riders answer trivia to win cash — while wrong answers earn strikes, and three strikes ends the game at the curb. Fan-favourite twists like the Red Light Challenge return, alongside the double-or-nothing finale Cash Cab Karaoke, where contestants must sing for their money or lose it all! Two new episodes air Tuesdays at 10 p.m. ET on Much and stream the next day on Crave.

A true Canadian TV icon, Cash Cab is revving up for its biggest, boldest season yet, with a brand-new cab, fresh surprises, and the kind of authentic, unpredictable, and laugh-out-loud moments that have made it a fan favourite for a decade. Whether it’s nailing trivia on pop science or pop culture, calling in a last-minute Shout-Out, or belting out a song under pressure, anything can happen once the meter starts running.

This season, the stakes are higher and the rides are wilder. Contestants are real people hailing a real cab, and can still lean on classic lifelines like Mobile, Street, and Social Media Shout-Outs to help their game, but the real showstopper is Cash Cab Karaoke; a high-energy, double-or-nothing finale that turns every ride into a full-blown performance. One wrong note? You could lose it all.

Behind the wheel is beloved host Adam Growe, whose quick wit and infectious energy continue to turn everyday commutes into unforgettable, edge-of-your-seat game show moments.

The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment Canada announces that Emmy and Tony Award-winning actor Andrea Martin will be honoured with the prestigious ICON Award at this year’s third annual event on Thursday, May 28, 2026 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Toronto. 

Few performers have shaped the fabric of comedy like Andrea Martin. From her groundbreaking work on SCTV to her celebrated career on Broadway and across film and television, her artistry has defined eras, influenced generations, and expanded what comedic and dramatic performances can be.

Andrea Martin: 2026 ICON Award Honouree

Moving effortlessly between stage and screen, satire and sincerity, ensemble and lead, Martin has consistently raised the standard of performance, inspiring audieces in Canada and around the world.

From playing Robin in Godspell in Toronto in 1972 in a company that included future stars Gilda Radner, Martin Short, Eugene Levy, and Victor Garber; to the juggernaut My Big Fat Greek Wedding film series; to her one-woman show, Andrea Martin: Final Days, Everything Must Go!; Martin has amassed a prolific body of work on stage and screen, both in front and behind the camera, that has earned her two Tony Awards, two Emmy Awards, and a long list of honours, nominations, and accolades awarded over more than five decades, including being named a laureate of the 2024 Governor General’s Performing Arts Award for Lifetime Artistic Achievement.

Martin’s iconic role on SCTV started in 1976 when she joined then-unknowns John Candy, Dave Thomas, Eugene Levy, Catherine O’Hara, Harold Ramis, and Joe Flaherty on the beloved Canadian sketch comedy series.  Among her many memorable portrayals, Martin most notably brought leapord-wearing station manager Edith Prickley to life, alongside some beloved real-life characterizations.

Her recent work on the acclaimed series Evil, Only Murders in the Building, The Gilded Age, and Overcompensating have only further endeared her to worldwide audiences.

Martin’s enduring influence, unmistakable voice, and commitment to craft have cemented her status as a true Canadian icon, one whose impact on comedy and storytelling continues to resonate across the industry today.

The Hollywood Reporter Women in Entertainment Canada is a first-of-its-kind summit and awards that brings the industry together across television, film, and music to celebrate and recognize the achievements of Canadian women who are driving the industry forward in their respective fields.

Martin joins previously announced honouree Malin Akerman, who will receive the Impact Award at the May 28 gala, with more honourees and special guests to follow in the coming weeks..
