The weekend belongs to JUMANJI: THE NEXT LEVEL, nabbing top spot in its debut with $50 million for Sony Pictures, from 4,078 theatres. This is a best opening for the Franchise, also getting 67% on the Tomatometer. Last installment, 2018’s WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE became Sony Pictures‘ highest-grossing title ever.
In second after a three-week reign, is FROZEN 2 with $21 million from 4,078 theatres for Disney.
KNIVES OUT lands in third with $9.5 million for Lionsgate Films/Mongrel Media.
Fourth spot goes to Clint Eastwood‘s RICHARD JEWELL which is based on true events at the 1996 Summer Olympics, earning $6.5 million from 2,502 theatres for Warner Bros. It gets 75% on the Tomatometer and an A CinemaScore despite some controversy about its accuracy.
BLACK CHRISTMAS opens in fifth with $5.3 million from 2,625 theatres for Universal Pictures, with 43% on the Tomatometer and a D CinemaScore.
Rounding-out the Top Ten is 21 BRIDGES with $1.3 million fron 1,533 theaters for VVS Films/STX Entertainment.
FROZEN II skates away from the competition this weekend with an outstanding $140 million from 4,440 theatres. This easily bests its 2013 Predecessor which debuted with $93 million across North America for Disney. Reviews are solid, coming in at 75% on the Tomatometer and an A- CinemaScore, just a notch below the previous Film.
In second is FORD V FERRARI with $16 million in week two from 3,528 theatres for 20th Century Fox/Disney, a total $58 million to date.
A BEAUTIFUL DAY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD opens in third with $14 million for Sony Pictures from 3,235 theatres. It gets 96% on the Tomatometer.
21 BRIDGES opens in fourth with $10 million for VVS Films/STX Entertainment, from 2,665 theatres. It gets a 46% score on the Tomatometer and a B+ CinemaScore.
CHARLIE’S ANGELS is in seventh with $4 million for Sony Pictures from 3,452 in its second week.
THE GOOD LIAR rounds-out the Top Ten with $2.8 million for Warner Bros.
Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman returns in 21 Bridges, out this July! Toronto’s Stephan James also stars.
Synopsis:
21 BRIDGES follows an embattled NYPD detective (Chadwick Boseman), who is thrust into a citywide manhunt for a pair of cop killers after uncovering a massive and unexpected conspiracy. As the night unfolds, lines become blurred on who he is pursuing, and who is in pursuit of him. When the search intensifies, extreme measures are taken to prevent the killers from escaping Manhattan as the authorities close all 21 BRIDGES to prevent any entry or exit from the iconic island.
