Last night at Budweiser Stage, Burlington’s Walk Off The Earth took the stage for the third consecutive year and packed some energy to a crowd of 7,000. For my first time seeing the Canadian band, kicking off Canadian Music Week (other headlining shows included Deadmau5), I wasn’t entirely sure what I was getting myself into, but Sarah Blackwood, Gianni Luminati, Joel Cassidy, among others in the band came out in a video package, with a backstage vignette that played until they came out on stage.
Immediately wanting to get the energy running they promised three ukuleles to the three loudest and craziest fans, this certainly sent the audience into a frenzy for wanting a coveted ukulele. They played a mix of their own songs and covers (which seemed to be a theme of the night, more on that later though) and a wonderful collection of The Beatles classics.
Debuting their newest song Better at Love and near the end of the show, asking the crowd to do a flashlight wave moment to create “another viral TikTok” which had the entire crowd engaged and wanting to participate, sharing a moment with the band. The entire evening felt like a love letter to the city, enjoying the immense family feeling the crowd gave them, and this was all amplified by Gianni bringing up the fact that he remembered playing at The Rivoli (another Canadian Music Week venue) to only seven people in the crowd. Multiplying that audience by a thousand is certainly an impressive feat and the love and joy from the audience spoke volumes.
What made the experience extra special were the two separate performances from Luminati Suns as they got to perform their songs and Walk off the Earth songs which rang similar to a School of Rock vibe. Aside from the great show, the crowdwork, the Luminati Suns surprise performances, the opening of Mico and Taylor Acorn really got the crowd worked up and ready for when Walk Off The Earth finally would dawn the stage at 9 PM. A fantastic start to Canadian Music Week at Budweiser Stage.
WALK OFF THE EARTH are back with new Single “BET ON ME” featuring Tyler Shaw! This is a catchy Summer Bop and I don’t even know how this escaped our radar where Lead Vocalist Sarah Blackwood is telling her love interest to “bet on her” like “Apple in the ’90s”. Hilar.
We love Horse Racing and the cover of the Single made us chuckle, and there’s even a few references to pedigree and stallions which is amaze. They need to film this Video at Woodbine Racetrack. I can’t see it being filmed anywhere else!
On the Single Cover, that’s a betting terminal, the type you see are racetracks and betting parlours. Fully-committed. YES!
The Track is produced by Gianni Luminati, Tokyo Speirs and The Futuristics.
This Indie Pop Outfit from Burlington knows how to have fun and we love that they’re still going strong! So awesome getting to chat quickly at the JUNOs last month!

It ain’t even Summer yet, but everyone knows that the Campaign for coveted SONG OF THE SUMMER usually begins well in advance. The culmination of some masterful Publicity and Promotion by the Record Label for complete Airwave Domination! We’ve kept our ears open and we love that Pop Music is making a return back to proper melodies and although bugs terrify us, we certainly aren’t afraid of an Earworm.
We’re noticing the Europeans completely are winning the Pop Music Game right now with several Transatlantic Imports like Ellie Goulding, zedd and Tove Lo having a major presence on-air, but longtime veterans like Flo Rida and Maroon 5 also are showing incredible longevity. New names like Andy Grammer, Echosmith and Tori Kelly are bringing that sunny West Coast vibe across the continent. Canadians Walk Off the Earth have a mighty-catchy Tune in Rule the World which could find success across the Border! It’s tough to say who will come out on-top but there surely are some worth Contenders!
Have a listen! Which of these Tracks will be Song of Summer 2015?
TOVE LO – TALKING BODY
TORI KELLY – NOBODY LOVE
MAROON 5 – SUGAR
ARIANA GRANDE – ONE LAST TIME
ANDY GRAMMER – HONEY, I’M GOOD
