Guilty of Streaming Cheating? You’re Not Alone, According to New Survey
Love may be in the air thanks to new films and series like People We Meet on Vacation and Bridgerton
Season 4, but so is streaming âcheating,â and itâs more common than many Canadians might like to admit. According to Enterprise Canada’s latest poll, nearly one-quarter of Canadians with Netflix (27%) admit theyâve secretly watched a movie or show alone that they had promised to watch with their partner. Turns out this secretive habit is especially popular among Millennials and Gen Z (38%).
And most never fess up to the crime. Most streaming cheaters are playing a long game, with
six in 10 (61%) saying they concealed it and later watched the same movie or show again with their partner. When it comes to titles full of twists and turns, like the new film The Rip or the latest limited series His & Hers, it may help to see every plot point unfold all over again!
âWatching a Netflix show or movie as a couple can be a meaningful way to build intimacy and share quality time together no matter if youâre newly dating or have been married for years. Itâs a modern love language,â says Shannon Tebb, Torontoâs boutique Matchmaker and Dating Expert. âWhen you secretly watch ahead without your partner â something nearly a quarter of Canadians with Netflix admit
to doing â it can feel harmless, but it may leave your partner feeling left out and trigger feelings of mistrust or even betrayal.”
Streaming cheating cuts across the board with women (27%) and men (26%) admitting to sneaking ahead of their partner at nearly identical rates, proving anyone is just as likely to press play behind their significant otherâs back.
Still, Netflix is far from a solo experience for most couples. Among Canadians with a romantic partner, 67% say they actually prefer to watch Netflix together rather than separately. Because dissecting the ending to Stranger Things or Harlan Cobenâs latest mystery is always better together.
Three in four (74%) Canadians say they generally agree with their partner about what to watch on Netflix, though 29% admit their partner has forced them to watch something they would have otherwise skipped. Only 19% regularly disagree over what to watch with their better half.
So, whether youâre a faithful co-watcher or a sneaky episode-binger, just remember, love may be blind but streaming history isnât. (And donât forget to save the date â Season 10 of Love
is Blind will be available on Netflix on February 11, 2026!)
Netflix Canada today announced an expanded partnership with comedian, actor and screenwriter, Mae Martin. As part of the new first look deal Martin will create and develop series projects and they will also star in a new stand-up special for Netflix.
The deal comes on the heels of the success of last fallâs thriller series Wayward.
The show world premiered at TIFF and following its release on Netflix spent five weeks on the global top 10.
Martin previously created, wrote and starred in the Netflix series Feel Good and debuted their first hour-long comedy special SAP on Netflix in 2023.
Quote from Mae Martin: Over the last seven years I’ve been lucky to build relationships at Netflix that have felt supportive and creatively empowering, allowing my stories (and weird jokes about snow globes, etc.) to reach a global audience. I’m so grateful to continue that relationship, and this vote of confidence will allow me to elevate other voices as well! I can’t wait to show everyone what I’ve been cooking up.
Quote from Danielle Woodrow, Director, Content – Canada: âMae is a singular voice who brings a rare combination of originality and curiosity to everything they do. We were thrilled with the success of Wayward and can’t wait to see what they dream up next.â

The same is true on Netflix, where our members have been able to show love for their favorite series, movies and specials through ratings like thumbs for more than ten years.
Now, weâre introducing real-time voting, a new way to be a part of the live events you love. When you tune in live for select titles like Star Search, premiering today at 6pm PT/9pm ET, youâll be able to use this interactive feature to place your vote alongside millions of others as the episode unfolds around the world.
Real-time voting is only available while watching select live events. If youâre watching on TV or a streaming device, vote using your remote. Or tap the screen if youâre watching on our mobile app. Real-time voting is not available while watching on web browsers so make sure you have your TV or phone ready before you press play. For step-by-step guidance on how to vote, check out our Tudum and Help Center articles.
We first began testing an early version of this experience on Dinner Time Live with David Chang, and learned firsthand how members appreciated the seamless and integrated ways they could participate in the series.
Whether youâre voting on your own or making it a watch party with family and friends, each profile gets one vote that impacts how the show â and its contestants â progresses. Star Search is just the first of more moments where members like you can influence live events together from wherever youâre watching.
And now the big question: Who will get your vote?
Netflix have announced their upcoming full 2026 slate of programming ahead. The full slate can be found below, but please note, this list is not comprehensive to all titles launching in 2026, select title announcements will come later in the year.
In addition to announcing the slate, Netflix invites fans to discover “What Next?” via a global asset debut that utilizes tarot cards to tease new and returning Netflix titles coming in the new year and an interactive experience on Tudum.com.
Fans who are in New York and want to engage with this experience in real life can head to Grand Central Station on January 12-13, 2026 to get a first-of-its-kind tarot reading by a 12-foot booth featuring an animatronic of Teyana Taylor, in the role of a tarot reader, which will offer personalized readings to fans curious about their Netflix future.

This dramatic western series was shot in Seebe and MĂŽnĂŽ ThnĂŽ, Alberta, both newly added filming locations on the website.
WAYWARD – Nothing is what it seems in Tall Pines. After an escape attempt from an academy for âtroubled teens”, two students join forces with a newly local police officer, unearthing the town’s dark and deeply rooted secrets. This captivating thriller was shot in Dundas, Millbrook, Milton, Guelph, Ashburn and Mississauga, Ontario.
MY SECRET SANTA – A vivacious single mom in need of a job decides to disguise herself as a man in order to get hired as the seasonal Santa at a luxury ski resort. But when she starts to fall in love with the hotel manager, complications develop that could ruin everything. My Secret Santa was shot in Sun Peaks and Kamloops, British Columbia.
A MERRY LITTLE EX-MAS – A recently divorced woman attempts to have one last Christmas with her family before selling the house and moving, but complications arise when her ex-husband brings his amazing new girlfriend into the holiday mix. This holiday rom-com was filmed in Hillsburgh, Glen Williams and Unionville, Ontario.
THE WRONG PARIS – A young woman joins a dating show thinking it’s in Paris, France, but it’s actually in Paris, Texas. She plots a way to get eliminated until her unexpected feelings for the bachelor complicate her plans. The Wrong Paris was filmed in Agassiz and North Vancouver, British Columbia.
FRANKENSTEIN – Oscar-winning director Guillermo del Toro adapts Mary Shelleyâs classic tale of Victor Frankenstein, a brilliant but egotistical scientist who brings a creature to life in a monstrous experiment that ultimately leads to the undoing of both the creator and his tragic creation.
