The trailer and key art for Beatles ’64, an all-new documentary from producer Martin Scorsese and director David Tedeschi, is available now. Beatles ’64 will stream exclusively on Disney+ beginning November 29, 2024. The film captures the electrifying moment of The Beatles’ first visit to America. Featuring never-before-seen footage, the film gives a rare glimpse into when The Beatles became the most influential and beloved band of all time.

On February 7, 1964, The Beatles arrived in New York City to unprecedented excitement and hysteria. From the instant they landed at Kennedy Airport, met by thousands of fans, Beatlemania swept New York and the entire country. Their thrilling debut performance on The Ed Sullivan Show captivated more than 73 million viewers, the most watched television event of its time. Beatles ’64 presents the spectacle, but also tells a more intimate behind the scenes story, capturing the camaraderie of John, Paul, George, and Ringo as they experienced unimaginable fame.

The film includes rare footage filmed by pioneering documentarians Albert and David Maysles, beautifully restored in 4K by Park Road Post in New Zealand. The live performances from The Beatles’ first American concert at the Washington, DC Coliseum and their Ed Sullivan appearances were demixed by WingNut Films and remixed by Giles Martin. Spotlighting this singular cultural moment and its continued resonance today, the music and footage are augmented by newly filmed interviews with Paul and Ringo, as well as fans whose lives were transformed by The Beatles.

Beatles ’64 is directed by David Tedeschi and produced by Martin Scorsese, Margaret Bodde, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Olivia Harrison, Sean Ono Lennon, Jonathan Clyde, and Mikaela Beardsley, with Jeff Jones and Rick Yorn serving as executive producers.

Coinciding with the film’s Disney+ release, seven American Beatles albums have been analog cut for 180-gram audiophile vinyl from their original mono master tapes for global release on November 22 by Apple Corps Ltd./Capitol/UMe. Originally compiled for U.S. release between January 1964 and March 1965 by Capitol Records and United Artists, these mono albums have been out of print on vinyl since 1995. 8 Facts You Didn’t Know About “Killers of the Flower Moon”

·       This is Martin Scorsese’s 21st feature film collaboration with editor Thelma Schoonmaker. Their working relationship has spanned 7 decades, and Thelma is the only woman to ever receive three Oscars in the Editing category (“Raging Bull,” “The Aviator” and “The Departed”). 

·       The film’s director of photography, Rodrigo Prieto, served as cinematographer for three music videos for superstar Taylor Swift – “The Man,” “Cardigan” and “Willow.” 

·       Paul Thomas Anderson suggested Jack Fisk to Scorsese for this project after collaborating with him on “There Will Be Blood,” which also takes place in the 1920s. Fisk builds his sets from scratch rather than utilizing soundstages or computer generated models: both Hale’s house and Mollie’s “country” house were built from the ground up. 

·       The character that Jesse Plemons plays, Tom White, was an actual Texas Ranger and one of the only FBI agents that J. Edgar Hoover allowed to wear a cowboy hat. 

·       Many of the costumes incorporated pieces the Osage actors brought from home which belonged to their grandparents, who lived during the time period depicted in the film.

Director Martin Scorsese is back with the ’20s set Killers of the Flower Moon. The story, adapted from the true story and novel by David Grann, focuses on members of the Osage Native American tribe of Osage County, Oklahoma. During the ‘20s, oil was found on the tribe’s land. It gave them wealth but also made them a target. Soon after discovering the oil, White people flocked to Osage Country in search of wealth. William Hale (Robert De Niro) was one of the first ones there. He built a strong foundation with the tribe and is considered a comrade. When Hale’s nephew Ernest (Leonardo DiCaprio) comes back from the war he returns to Hale’s home. Before long, Ernest has become smitten with wealthy Osage Mollie (Lily Gladstone). Once Hale gets word he lets it slip that if Ernest were to marry Mollie he would inherit all her money when she dies.

No one does it like Scorsese. The celebrated Filmmaker has managed to make the 3 1/2-hour runtime breezes by. This is thanks to his meticulous pacing, the engrossing story and the powerhouse performances. None more so than Gladstone whose surrounded by two heavyweights in the industry yet commands our attention. She’s truly a force to be reckoned with.

Killers of the Flower Moon shines the spotlight on the atrocities that happened to the Osage tribe by white people. Hale is the ringleader of the heinous acts inflicted on the Osage people. De Niro is in top form as the greedy, savage man who’ll stop at nothing for wealth. It’s impossible to think that anyone could pull off this role other than him. He’s our entry into the corrupt system that was at play by White people against the Osage tribe.

Screenwriters Scorsese and Eric Roth expose the system that aids in the crimes Hale orders. That system includes doctors, insurance brokers and more who work together to inflict and keep horrendous acts secret. Hale was a master manipulator, even to his own Nephew. Upon first introduction, it’s obvious that Ernest is gullible, slightly daft and money-obsessed. DiCaprio is a powerhouse that delivers a character that has the ability to manipulate himself and the audience.

The Film might be set in the ‘20s, however, there is a direct correlation to today, most prominently with the missing and murdered Indigenous women. Hale’s acts are leading to the deaths of the Osage people but no one investigates. As expected, Scorsese doesn’t shy away from the brutality inflicted on the Osage people. One scene shows Mollie’s deceased sister Anna’s body being cut up by doctors, who claim that was part of their examination, in front of the public.

Killers of the Flower Moon is a Film that rarely gets made. Scorsese deserves credit for giving a voice to the Osage tribe and showing the atrocities that happened to them. It’s an important Film that will change minds, open hearts and hopefully will make people want to fight for the heinous injustices still being committed against Indigenous peoples across the world.

Netflix stream and release in theatres THE IRISHMAN this Fall.

SCTV forever has left a legacy behind on Television, becoming a blueprint for Sketch Comedy during its run from 1976 to 1984. The Series made household names of Martin Short, Andrea Martin, Rick Moranis, John Candy, Dave Thomas, Joe Flaherty,  Catherine O’Hara and Eugene Levy, launching long and lasting careers.

In celebration of the iconic Series, Netflix is producing an upcoming as-yet-untitled Special commemorating SCTV. To make it just right, Academy Award-winning Director Martin Scorsese has been enlisted to take the reins and Funnyman Jimmy Kimmel took a quick break from his busy schedule to come to Toronto to moderate the Special, which was taped over three hours at historic Elgin Theatre.

While we often see some of the Cast on Red Carpets locally, having them reunite together on-stage is something remarkable and rare. Preparations began last Friday as the Production Crew began set-up for the Special with finishing touches and rehearsals being done Saturday and early this morning.

We still are pinching our self that we got Selfies with Scorsese and Kimmel. We’ve been lucky in the past to cross paths with some of the Cast prior, several who stayed late to celebrate at the venue.
