Legendary Actor and Writer Molly Ringwald made an appearance in Toronto last night as part of Toronto Public Library’s Salon Series. She moderated a conversation with JUDY BLUME, A LIFE Author Mark Oppenheimer in an hour-long chat followed by a book signing. The two reflected upon the iconic Author known best for her timeless children’s and young adult novels, of which Ringwald proudly is an avid fan. She also happened the narrate the Audiobook for Oppenheimer‘s authorized Biography.
We learned so much about Blume‘s trailblazing career and life, including her relationships, her fight against censorship, and how today she spends much of her time operating her bookshop in Key West with her husband. Blume was fearless in approaching subject matter many kids were and still are afraid to talk about with their parents growing-up, in effect a figurative “mother” to multiple generations.
Ringwald needs little introduction. Her body of work speaks for itself having delivered us some timeless performances, whether you know her from John Hughes’ incredible Brat Pack films, or even some of Ryan Murphy‘s more recent anthology series. Hearing her speak about something that meant so much to her, and meeting her quickly, meant so much to me!
Some highlights. And yes, I called her “My Judy Blume” because she truly is!
