#FIRSTOOK: NEW CBC GEM SERIES “FOR THE RECORD”
A new six episode series is coming to CBC GEM called FOR THE RECORD. Each episode centers around one centerpiece song from Universal Music‘s catalog of hits, including a track by Canadian YouTube sensation Johnny Orlando!
Ray and Angela just broke up. What if the iconic songs we all know and love had the power to bring them back together? Follow the interconnected people, stories & music that mend their broken hearts.

Centrepiece song: Wouldn’t It Be Nice By The Beach Boys
Synopsis: Ray and Angela just broke up. They’ve just got one thing left to do together: divvy up their prized record collection. One album, Pet Sounds, proves to be non-negotiable, leading the couple to unearth the pain and bitterness that drove them apart.

Title: The Broken Hearts Tour

Synopsis: Angela spends Christmas with her niece Madison, who is desperate to meet her “soulmate”: the real-life pop star Johnny Orlando. But cynical Angela is hellbent on teaching this tween “stan” that love is a lie. Only Johnny Orlando himself can prove her wrong.

Synopsis: Ray’s new girlfriend Sara wants him to meet her parents. Over a dinner of traditional oxtail stew cooked by the “woke” Ray, they all get into a battle royale about cultural appropriation in music when he plays a Bob Marley protest song during the meal.

Synopsis: Stefan is a charismatic pastor, eligible bachelor and devoted disciple of The Weeknd who goes through a crisis of faith when he engages in a passionate affair.

Title: That Twilight Queer Love Affair
Centrepiece song: I Put A Spell On You by Nina Simone
Synopsis: Recent widow Joy is about to turn 70. On the eve of her birthday she meets Fiona, a Nerds 4 Hire employee, and they strike up an unlikely friendship thanks to Nina Simone.

Synopsis: Rain is attending her annual Zeds Dead EDM festival pilgrimage. She’s also 8 months pregnant. Don’t judge! When she goes into labour, there’s only one person there to assist her: Ray, itching to get back together with his first love, Angela.

#SPOTTED: EMILIO ESTEVEZ, JOHNNY ORLANDO, CONNOR FRANTA, JENNA ORTEGA, NAVIA ROBINSON + MORE IN TORONTO FOR WE DAY TORONTO 2019
Some recognizable faces are in Toronto today at Scotiabank Arena for WE DAY. The We Movement is a coalition of organizations which band together to enable change and progression with a focus on youth. Various speakers and performers have been engaged to appear at the Toronto edition of the day, which tours other cities including New York, Vancouver and Los Angeles.
Appearing this year in Toronto are the likes of James Arthur, Emilio Estevez, David Suzuki, Johnny Orlando, Jenna Ortega, Connor Franta, Penny Oleksiak and more.

#SPOTTED: CANADA’S TOP MUSIC ACTS AT YOUTUBE CANADA’S UNFORGETTABLE NIGHT OF CANADIAN MUSIC
In celebration of YouTube‘s upcoming streaming service launch in Canada, YOUTUBE MUSIC, the Country’s biggest stars in Music stepped-out at Rebel Night Club by Toronto’s waterfront to celebrate the occasion! Hosted by our v. own Lilly Singh, who has found meteoric international success as a YouTube star-turned-Entrepreneur, the packed house including a mixture of ad buyers, Music industry and contest winners.
The audience was treated to three-plus hours of genre-spanning Music including hot musical acts like Brett Kissel, Roy Woods, DVSN, Jessie Reyez, Johnny Orlando, The Glorious Sons, Charlotte Cardin, Scott Helman and headliner, Daniel Caesar. PartyNextDoor originally was to appear but had cancelled unfortunately, although the audience was more than delighted with the evening’s offerings.
Singh along with fellow YouTube personality Humble the Poet, unveiled her new puppy who sat patiently waiting on his mommy at the event with a handler. Singh tells the audience “This was the best decision I ever made”, own taking-on pet ownership. As a tribute to her hometown, she named the puppy “Scarborough” and he is adorable, being hoisted in the air without flinching to feverish cell phone snaps from the sea of adorers.
