By Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Back in the beginning of August, Warner Bros. Pictures Canada treated some lucky media and members of the public to a special event hosted at the CN Tower – followed by a phenomenal meal at Horizons – where we got to see some clips from the hotly-anticipated new movie Pan, followed by a Q&A between Director Joe Wright and beloved Film Critic, Richard Crouse.
First-off, the footage of Pan that we were privileged to see was absolutely remarkable. Wright certainly took on an ambitious project and luckily from the snippets we were shown, Pan certainly looks to be as magical as Neverland itself. However, aside from the breathtaking footage we got our first real glimpse at performances in Pan and with all eyes being focused on Hugh Jackman portraying Blackbeard, everyone was pleasantly enthused with how involved he made himself, breathing life into the well-known character.
Back when Pan was announced, there was a ton of controversy framing the Film. The controversy mainly sparked from the casting of Tiger Lily who is portrayed in the original Disney Film as a Native American. Rooney Mara who is an incredible actress by any regard, was chosen for the part despite not fitting the part racially and the world of Cinema responded. When Wright was asked about his choice of Mara to portray Tiger Lily, he responded by saying they auditioned thousands of people from across the globe and in the end Mara was the best fit, despite not being an exact match to the original.
The reason why Wright had joined the project in the first place was because of his children. It was something that pushed him to do a Family Film in the first place. His other projects have been The Soloist, Atonement, Pride and Prejudice, Hanna and Anna Karenina, different in many ways from something as fantastical as Pan. However what really made Wright excited about the project was the sets. The sets were not completely green- screened and built on a scale that even surprised experienced actors such as Jackman. Overall, the event was a blooming success, filling everyone’s heart with hope and magic.
Warner Bros. Pictures Canada release PAN on October 9, 2015. Keep an eye out for the magic as it approaches theatres.

Although we saw a small Teaser a while back for Robot Action Flick CHAPPIE, we didn’t expect it to be the suspenseful, high-octane affair that it truly is! You must see this new Trailer for what sure will be a big Blockbuster to get us out of the Winter doldrums.
Official Synopsis:
From the director of District 9 and Elysium comes Chappie, starring Sharlto Copley, Dev Patel, with Sigourney Weaver and Hugh Jackman. Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie: he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings — some good, some bad — and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from any one else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. That’s a dangerous idea — and it’s a challenge that will pit Chappie against powerful, destructive forces that would ensure that he is the last of his kind.

It is tough not to get a bit emotional seeing the brand new Teaser Trailer for CHAPPIE. The latest effort from Director Neill Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium) seems to hit all the right notes, looking every bit like the Family Blockbuster we’ve been in dire need of in quite some time!
Offical Synopsis:
Every child comes into the world full of promise, and none more so than Chappie (Sharlto Copley): he is gifted, special, a prodigy. Like any child, Chappie will come under the influence of his surroundings – some good, some bad – and he will rely on his heart and soul to find his way in the world and become his own man. But there’s one thing that makes Chappie different from anyone else: he is a robot. The first robot with the ability to think and feel for himself. His life, his story, will change the way the world looks at robots and humans forever.
CHAPPIE also stars Dev Patel, Hugh Jackman and Sigourney Weaver.

Yet another number one debut for Hugh Jackman! Prisoners is the second Film in-a-row of the Australian-born Star after another big debut this July with Wolverine and after it premiered at TIFF ’13 to resoundingly positive reviews earlier this month, the 18+ Crowd flocked to the Movies this weekend to see this R-rated Thriller. Jake Gyllenhaal who happened to top the Box Office this weekend last year with End of Watch, also stars. The Film opened with a stellar $21.4 million for Warner Bros., from 3,260 theatres. Made for $46 million, it likely will recover its production costs rather quickly and earned an A- CinemaScore from Audiences and also a v. solid 80% on the Tomatometer.
After a monstrous debut last week, Insidious: Chapter 2 slips to second spot this weekend with $14.5 million for FilmDistrict/eOne Films. In two weeks, the Horror has grossed a spiffy $60 million.
In third this weekend is Comedy, The Family, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert DeNiro with $7 million in this its second week out for Relativity Media and eOne Films. The Luc Besson Film in total has earned $25.1 million thus far domestically.
Debuting in fourth is Teen-Dance Flick, Battle of the Year, with $5 million from 2,008 theatres. Critics didn’t give it much love with a paltry 6% on the Tomatometer, while audiences loved with, giving it an A- CinemaScore; it was made for $20 million.
We’re the Millers is showing astounding resilience for Warner Bros., still hanging-on to the Top Ten in sixth spot with $4.6 million. The Comedy has earned over $138 million now in North America in its seven weeks in theatres.
The Butler also is proving to be a Stayer in seventh spot with $4.3 million in its sixth week of release, a cumulative total of 106 million for The Weinstein Co. and eOne Films.
Planes from Disney, rounds out the Top Ten with $2.8 million in its seventh week, now grossing over $86 million in North America.
At long last the TIFF ’13 Guest List has been announced and among the Marquee names we can expect to see in Toronto in two weeks are phenomenal! Although speak of Brad Pitt and George Clooney making appearances here didn’t amount to much more than rumour, this year the Female Contingent shines brightest with several of Hollywood’s A-List set to present their latest Oscar Vehicles here.
Among the Celebrities expected this year are:
Emilia Clarke, Nicole Kidman, Meryl Streep, Tom Felton, Chris Hemsworth, Benedict Cumberbatch, Scarlett Johansson, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Jennifer Aniston, Matthew McConaughey, Daniel Radcliffe, Paul Dano, Zoe Kazan, Sarah Gadon, Julia Roberts, Reese Witherspoon, James Franco, Marion Cotillard, Mike Myers, Emma Thompson, Kristen Wiig, Keira Knightley, Saoirse Ronan, Amy Poehler, Keanu Reeves, Kate Winslet, Adam Driver, Jesse Eisenberg, Mia Wasikowska, Owen Wilson, Ralph Fiennes, Hailee Steinfeld, Jake Gyllenhaal, JudeLaw, Jessica Chastain, Jai Courtney, Mila Kunis, Pierce Brosnan, Sandra Bullock, Jason Bateman, Zac Efron, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender, Colin Firth, Idris Elba, Ed Harris, Michael C. Hall, Annette Benning, James McAvoy, Liam Neeson, Steven Soderbergh, Ben Foster, Anton Yelchin, Maria Bello, Jennifer Garner, Nicolas Cage, Daniel Brühl, Tom Hiddleston, Jack Huston, Hugh Jackman, Jessica Lange, Melissa Leo, Adam Levine, Catherine O’Hara, Kurt Russell, Elizabeth Olsen, Tom Berenger, Tom Wilkinson, Julia Louis Dreyfuss, Clive Owen, Zach Galifianakis, Emily Watson, John Hawkes, Alan Rickman, Toni Collette, Josh Brolin, Alice Cooper, Tiger Chen, Rebecca Hall, Will Forte, Kevin Zegers, Taylor Kitsch, Juliette Binoche, Mark Ruffalo, Tim Robbins, Thandie Newton, Terrence Howard, James Hetfield, Thomas Haden Church, Tim Robbins, Glenn Close, Dakota Fanning, Philip Glass and several more!

ALl I have to say is that it’s about time Maria Bello got cast in Movies again! One of the Films entering TIFF ’13 with the most buzz is Thriller, Prisoners, which centers around an investigation in the disappearance of two girls. Hugh Jackman stars as a Boston Man who takes matters into his own hands when he thinks he’s found the Man behind the disappearance of his Daughter and her Best Friend.
Directed by our v. own Denis Villeneuve (Incendies), Prisoners also stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Terrence Howard, Melissa Leo, Paul Dano,Viola Davis and of course, Maria Bello. Phenomenal Cast.
