It’s like catching-up with an old friend every time we get to Test Drive a member of the FORD family. This past week we had the joy of piloting the 2020 Ford Edge SEL. Combining several sophisticated elements of style with pure power and practicality, the mid-size SUV continues to be a game-changer, nailing several of the marks!
The Edge SEL is powered by a Twin-Scroll 2.0L EcoBoost® Engine, 8-Speed Automatic Transmission and operates at an impressive 250-horsepower. Every drive had us feeling fully in control of the road and we love this.
Let’s talk about aesthetics. Our Edge SEL was a Atlas Blue, which was absolutely stunning to the eye. Paired against the colourful autumnal backdrop we are witnessing right now, we felt elevated and privileged to be paired with this elegant ride. Driving through a variety of weather conditions this past week, we appreciated the intuitiveness of its LED fog lamps, automatic headlights and wipers which take away one less worry as we focus on the road. Seating was a creme colour with comfy Unique Cloth-Trimmed surface and we loved that the Driver’s Seat was adjustable a whopping ten ways, while the front passenger gets to adjust their seat six ways! Above this, there are seat warmers which are actually a necessity, not a luxury no matter what anybody tells you! We enjoyed how simple the climate control system was to navigate as simplicity is best. There was so much space to go around between my guests and I with exceptional cargo capacity.
The Edge SEL’s Power Panoramic Vista Roof is a thing of marvel. I’ve never seen a roof like this ever on a vehicle and details like this really show Ford‘s commitment to elevating the driving experience into something truly sophisticated and elegant is front and center here.
Safety is a great focus with this vehicle. We don’t recall ever having had the protection of this many Airbag options:
Above this, we appreciated the Lane-Keeping Assist, which was easily flipped on and off with a switch on the left-hand side of the steering wheel. A rear-view camera with parking assist made parallel parking downtown a breeze and we don’t remember what parking was like before this feature was a thing! Again, this is no longer a luxury, it’s a real necessity as we know how aggressive Parking Enforcement is in downtown Toronto. Its Securilock® Passive Anti-Theft System has your back always as well. With winter months coming-up we could only be aided by features like Advancetrac® with Roll Stability Control (RSC®), Curve Control and Hill Start Assist. Our travels take us from the city to the country to the suburbs and the Edge SEL is up for anything you throw at it!
This new generation of Ford vehicles is all about innovation and we love the rotary gear shift dial versus the traditional shift stick. The push-button engine start and remote proximity entry also might seem like little things but they take away stresses in your day. Nobody has time to fumble for keys, honestly!
We must confess also, that this is our favourite thing!
Quite possibly one of the coolest things ever. #FordEdgeSEL @FordCanada pic.twitter.com/WeDT3aX1TK

Keeping connected was a breeze. The Edge SEL possesses a litany of charging options including a wireless charging pad, giving you no excuse ever to not have any battery left on your phone. As mentioned earlier, the vehicle shows a consciousness with its EcoBoost® engine, but it also comes equipped with a Battery Saver option which is handy. The only small pitfall with this is that with Drive-In entertainment becoming more popular during the Pandemic, this means having to restart your car on Accessory mode more frequently.
Ford‘s SYNC® 3 with Apple CarPlay™ and Android Auto™ compatibility made it super-easy to connect with our phone’s Spotify Playlists and of course, the vehicle is SiriusXM-capable. We couldn’t imagine morning drives without Hits 1! The Edge SEL can be upgraded to a nine-speaker audio system and we can confirm the sound was glorious as we witnessed enjoying a Premiere at a Drive-In!
Fuel Economy is a deal-breaker to us and the Edge SEL tallies-in at 1.4 L/100km city, 8.3 L/100km highway and 10.0 L/100km combined, which is expected of a vehicle that operates at such high power. Lowered gas prices during this Pandemic are one of the few positive things to have happened this year.
Let’s take a walk down memory lane this past week in our adventures with the 2020 Ford Edge SEL!
As many of you know, I’m expecting a new puppy and can’t wait to bring her home end of the month. beanie is going to be the most special little princess and the Ford Edge SEL allowed us an opportunity to check-in on her.
We’re honoured to be one of the few outlets in the country to be granted access to cover our favourite sport, Horse Racing right now. The second jewel in Canada’s Triple Crown, the $400k Prince of Wales Stakes, took place last week in Fort Erie and we were privileged to have access.
So proud also to cheer-on our namesake MR WILL at Woodbine Racetrack this weekend. He ran amazing and is oh so close to that win! The Edge SEL made this possible. You really appreciate the value of having a reliable ride especially right now during the Pandemic.
When near Niagara, a visit to some of the regions wineries is a give-in. Of course, no alcohol was consumed prior to or during the visit at our favourite, Fielding Estate Winery. Such beauty to behold this time of year with the changing colours. A pure joy bringing this home to enjoy!
The Inside Out Film Festival is now in its 30th edition and we were honoured to be invited to its Opening Night Gala, STARDUST, a Biopic about icon David Bowie. While much of the Festival this year is digital, it was a pleasure celebrating in-person, socially-distanced at the RBC Lakeside Drive-In at Ontario Place.
So thrilled to partner together with Netflix Canada on something fun, coming this week in celebration of new Adam Sandler film, HUBIE HALLOWEEN! We couldn’t have done this without the Edge getting us there to create this content and we’re so excited to present it to you!
We don’t know about you, but we’re already in Halloween spirits! So much fun getting an invite to check-out HALLOWEEN NIGHT OF LIGHTS in Vaughan, an immersive spectacle with 700k LED lights!
We’ll definitely miss the 2020 Ford Edge SEL, but in the meantime you can learn more about it here.

While production for the Ford EcoSport began back in 2003, the five-door subcompact SUV only made its way to North America in 2018. We’ve never driven anything quite like this compact ride which is tall in height but tight enough to navigate the toughest parking spots downtown. The 2019 Ford EcoSport SES gives drivers versatility and utility.
Firstly, the vehicle is packed with power and purpose with its 2.0L Ti-VCT I-4 engine with Auto Start-Stop Technology and an intelligent 4WD system. The EcoSport moves effortlessly city and highway.
We actually love the EcoSport’s unconventional style and even more, we enjoy its fixings and trimmings. It comes with tasteful ActiveX™-trimmed seating material with metal gray stitching. Evening drives are fun with its ambient lighting and its power moonroof gives it sophistication and mood. Its Push-Button start, proximity keyless entry simplify our day and drive and should be the law.
The EcoSport comes equipped with two USB charging ports keeping driver and passenger connected. Above this, it is equipped with a 4G LTE Wi-Fi Hotspot, capable of connecting to up to a whopping ten devices! If that weren’t enough to process, it also boasts EIGHT beverage holders and an eight-inch touchscreen to navigate its menu and settings.
Music is important to us and syncing via Bluetooth to our Huawei P30 Pro was easy, allowing us to enjoy our Taylor Swift LOVER album on repeat. Its sound system comes SiriusXM-ready with AM/FM, MP3 Capable with seven Speakers. Hear how great it sounds:
Rain-sensing wipers are a thing of wonder for us, giving us one less thing to worry about and the EcoSport not only has this, but also rear-window wipers as well. They also move in-reverse which is inspired. Above this, it comes with key safety features like a super-easy to use and understand rear-view camera which makes backing-in and parallel clear and simple, like it should be!
BLIS® (Blind Spot Information System) with Cross-Traffic Alert has our best interests at heart as I’m sure most have us had at one point or another had a close call.
A couple small critiques. It literally took us 30 minutes to learn how to open back door/trunk of the EcoSport, until a quick YouTube tutorial showed us the way! Once we were able to open the door, which had windows dimmed for privacy, we were pleased how spacious the EcoSport’s trunk was. More on that below.
Another piece is that its anti-theft alerts are hyper-senstitive. On a few occasions after locking the vehicle with our remote, we were startled by the car’s alarm going off, even though we did nothing in particular to trigger it.
While the EcoSport’s fuel economy for city driving at 10.2L/100 km is great, much of our driving was on the highway, where it tallies-in at 8L/100 km leaving room for a bit more bang for your buck.
Weekends are made for memories and we loved celebrating our dear friend Angela’s wedding and the 2019 Ford EcoSport SES made this and the completion of various errands possible, including sending-off my parents and aunts who have been visiting the past few weeks for my nephew Kenny‘s wedding!

September is for lovers, indeed. 💜
We were able to fit-in four suits cases in the EcoSport’s spacious trunk, with one carry-on needing to be carried on my dad’s lap. We made it happen and everyone got to the airport and on their way without a hitch!
A pleasurable weekend ride and the EcoSport was up for everything I threw its way!

Luxury Carmakers Tesla, Maserati, Mini, Mercedes, BMW, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce plus several favourites like Ford, Acura, Honda and more unveil their exciting new lineups. The latter just was awarded Canadian Car of the Year for their 2018 Honda Accord.
Getting tons of buzz was FORD‘s unveiling of their centerpiece, the 2019 Mustang Bullitt. The car commemorates the 50th anniversary of iconic Steve McQueen-starring Film Bullitt. We were thrilled to be among the first to preview the gorgeous Mustang Bullitt, the third edition of the car, mirrored closely to the original in green paint, with a dark grille and signature fuel cap. It has attitude, it has presence. It will be available to the public in manual transmission.
Other highlights on the Ford roster include the 2019 Ford Edge STÂ and the 2019 Ford Ranger Pickup Truck.
We spoke with Gonzalo Contreras, Product Marketing Manager from Ford Canada who tells us more about the hotly-buzzed 2019 Ford Edge ST, due for a summer 2019 release. “It is built right here at our plant in Oakville, Ontario which is creating Canadian jobs and is fantastic.”. “Our Ford Performance Team has fine-tuned it to have 335 horsepower and 380 lbs of torque per foot.”. We have had the pleasure of driving several vehicles in the Ford Canada family over the years, but none ever have given us the level of confidence we felt at the wheel of the 2017 Ford Explorer Limited Edition.
Coloured like the blue jeans we wear so comfortably, the vehicle we drove in ways was metaphoric of how at home we felt in this spacious ride. In fact, it can seat up to seven with an optional back row of seats.
Not to be forgotten is its sizy trunk with Foot-Activated, Hands-Free Power Liftgate. Hands full of pre-holiday shopping bags and groceries like us? Simply kick its bumper to load and unload cargo from its trunk. We love easy access and loathe fumbling for keys. That keyless ignition and lock are a dream. Just stand beside the door with the remote key in your pocket and the door unlocks.
The car undeniably is a bit if a ‘gas guzzler’ with fuel economy of 14.4 l/100 km city and 10.5 l/100 km highway. In fact, we ran through a tank of gas in less than 2.5 days with a trek to the countryside to see our dear Princess, the 2017 Ford Explorer Limited Edition and downtown from the suburbs. On that same token though, the Explorer gave us nothing but pure power on the road with its 2.3L EcoBoost® engine, producing 280 horsepower and providing 310 lb.-ft. of torque.
We are a bit obsessed with staying connected and charged at all times and the car hit all the marks with mulitple USB charge ports, even for our passengers who could control their climate too. Its SYNC® 390 is ahead of the curve with its voice-activated technology. The touch screen console displays climate control options, audio, navigation and even gives an audio transcription of text messages while we’re focussed on driving. Although we’re not an Apple® user, Siri® Eyes Free is available and ready to connect to your iPhone®.
That rear-view camera gives you that added piece of mind when reversing and parallel parking (yes it has parking assist too!) in the City.
While our Holiday gear-up playlist alternated from Mariah Carey’s first Christmas album, the Grease Soundtrack (we were invited to a sold-out weekend performance at Winter Garden Theatre!) and the new Taylor Swift album, we marveled at several details in the music which we never heard before on our headphones through the car’s premium 12-speaker Sony® audio system.
Everything about the 2017 Ford Explorer Limited Edition is a perfect balance of purpose and luxury from its gorgeous perforated leather seats to its trimmming and pleasing ambient lighting. Seating not only is heatable, but also coolable and that heated stearing wheel will come in handy this v. chilly Toronto winter. The moonroof which is concealable with a retracting cover, gives the experience that added touch of elegance.
While we never once had a doubt about how secure we felt driving this vehicle, additional saftey features like Post-Crash Alert, AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control™, Belt-Minder® and a Front Passenger Knee Airbag are designed to keep us and our loved ones out of harm’s way and we appreciate this.
The 2017 Ford Explorer Limited Edition starts at $47,399 CAN and is crammed with value.

Taking place from Friday, February 18 though Sunday, February 26, 2017 at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre, the Canadian International Auto Show is a must-attend event for any car lover.  We had the pleasure of attending for the first time ever this year courtesy of our friends at Ford Canada and we even got to attend a private luncheon with Ford‘s in-house Futurist, Sheryl Connelly visiting all the way from the automaker’s headquarters in Michigan. Now we must clarify, a Futurist doesn’t predict the future but more is an expert on the analysis of social behaviours globally, to understand what ultimately shapes and crafts trends and this trickles down things we buy, including what we look for in buying a car.
We learned tons of interesting statistics and tidbits about global patterns and behaviours over our delicious lunch at Taverna Mercatto, just minutes from the bustle at the Convention Centre.
According to 80% of globally-surveyed adults feel today’s media outlets are more opinion than objective news coverage. We are living in an age where people are trusting less traditional media as a source of information, hence people are turning more to Bloggers and Influencers for information.
“I’m not a car expert by any means”, Connelly tells a room of Influencers whom have become ambassadors whom in recent years have become local ambassadors for the beloved brand. “I’m into very much many of the same things you are into”. Perusing the room, I felt a sense of relief among some familiar faces – my worries alleviated of being I’d be stuck in a presentation where lots of technical automotive jargon would be thrown my way.
Did you know the average American spends 4.7 hours a day on their mobile device?  77% of adults globally surveyed agree this is resulting in higher obesity levels. Studies also show that 47% of people agree that technology is making us dumber. While 63% of people feel that we are becoming less polite due to technology. Need proof? Read the comments section on YouTube or ask that friend who was “dumped” over text message or e-mail. Ford has a mission not to overwhelm us with technology, but instead be purposeful in a way that allows us to incorporate and integrate it intuitively into their products, enabling us to enjoy that “good life”.
Times also are changing. Survey results show that people over the age of 30 tend to associate social status with the car they drive. Millennials we learned, place more value and associate status with the technology they own.  Perhaps we are approaching more than ever before an era where not every body wants or needs to own a car.  Also we are seeing a shift from what we know as Materialism. 69% of women and 60% of men surveyed feel that wealth is an outdated measure of success. In response to the statement “I care less about material possessions than I did in the past”, 62% (18-29), 67% (30-44) and 73% (45+) responded a definitive “yes”. Ford continually is trying to explore the balance between need and desire and our many diverse needs. A car is just a ride to some of us, while it is status and something more meaningful to others.
“Decider’s Dilemma” also is a growing phenomenon among consumers today. That is, we are responding to over-buying and the overwhelming abundance of options in the marketplace by wanting to try before we buy, a “Sampling Society” if you will.  Above this, surveyed results show that 98% of kids who took a “gap year” agree that experience helped them develop as a person, hinting that procrastination in some ways helps people be more productive.  Technology like Ford’s Smart Mobility and FordPass among other mobility solutions, help each traveler plan their own journey and also stay more connected with their own lives.
86% of adults surveyed around the world also agree that we should be paying closer attention to the production ethics of the products we buy. Ford’s mission is to make products mindful of our growing concern for sustainability and the world economically, socially and environmentally. In recent years, we are seeing more and more the surfacing of Ecoboost technology and smaller Eco-sport cars which serve the base need for utility. Ford also has placed focus on a water strategy, receiving an “A” rating from the CDP, the world’s only global environment disclosure agency.

What a blessing it was getting the chance to test drive the 2017 FORD FUSION TITANIUM AWD my milestone birthday weekend! Celebrating in-style meant having a chariot with equal parts substance and glamour. This ride was everything I could’ve asked for – cutting-edge innovation meets practicality! Coloured a gorgeous burgundy velvet metallic, the Fusion elicited wows from friends and family, striking a chord with its visual elegance. They were treated to spacious heated (and cooled) leather seating as we navigated north and west of the City for celebrations and passengers in the roomy back loved having their own vents.
Driving was truly a comfort with its adjustable seats. Although the Fusion’s rotary shift dial  was a bit daunting at first, after having grown accustomed to an actual stick gear shift for years, I got the handle of it rather quickly.  I absolutely loved its remote keyless ignition, ensuring a warm car (believe me, it was needed and will be needed this grueling winter ahead!) before I even got in.
I confess, the driver’s seat was so cozy, reclining almost all the way back, that I even took a quick nap under that ambient moonroof for a quick recharge.  Never be afraid to celebrate too hard! To enjoy a sunset in this stunner of a vehicle is a luxury that could be experienced on the daily!
We don’t remember driving before SIRIUS XM and this is a fact. We adore that the 12-speaker SONY® sound system-enhanced Fusion comes SIRIUS-ready, Spotify-enabled, with multiple USB ports for charging. Its SYNC® 3 system works together with the Bluetooth on your wireless device to help you enjoy our music no-fuss and stay connected at all times. Did we mention it has voice recognition too? We think it’s positively awesome too being able to get an audio transcription of your text messages so one can keep their focus on the road. We love also that the car is not only Apple but Android friendly! Yes!
The Fusion comes with decent fuel efficiency at 13.5 L/100km city, 9.0 L/100km hwy, 11.5 L/100km combined.
Power-wise, the intelligent all-wheel-drive option is smooth like butter with its 2.0-litre EcoBoost® engine.
For those who need to go downtown frequently, the Fusion makes parallel and regular parking even, a breeze with park assist and park-out assist for those tight spots. Its rear camera ensures your safety, very aware of pedestrians, vehicles and obstacles. Our one wish? We wish it had rear-window wipers!

What a week! We don’t know who decided to plan Pride, Canada Day weekend and the Queen’s Plate all together at once, but this was that year. We could not have made it without the Ford Fiesta!
Okay, being the bit of a diva we are, we admit that out of a great lineage of vehicles from the beloved automaker, this wasn’t initially the one that excited us most, but tell us how time and again were floored by its exceptional value!?!
Compact in size and big on practicality, we had the privilege of driving the Fiesta, souped-up in its Titanium edition. We’re talking bucket leather seats, adjustable six different ways. Its heated option would be amazing in the winter although we were trying to cool ourselves down if anything in this blistering holiday heat! Â We enjoyed our sky-lit drives with its tinted moonroof, suggesting all the way that this car is giving us more than its actual market value.
We loved the Sony audio system it came equipped with, with the option of our fave SIRIUS XM. We love Hits 1 and we don’t care that the songs repeat every ten minutes! What truly makes the Ford Fiesta a standout among its peers is that it is forward-thinking enough to let you connect your Smartphone via Bluetooth and play your favourites from the Spotify app! It comes with two USB ports as we are obsessed with having a charged phone always.
Perfect for any holiday really we got a kick out of adjustable ambient lighting. Red for Canada Day, pink for Pride, green for Christmas??!?Â
Happy #PrideTO from the #FordFiesta! Can your ride do this?! @fordcanada

Our only issue with this Hatchback edition is that perhaps its trunk wasn’t quite roomy enough for multiple suitcases and travel bags.
Otherwise, operation is a breeze with keyless entry, capless fuel tank and that rear-view camera which makes parallel parking and reversing a cinch. We can’t live without it! Â Really.
The Ford Fiesta is a smooth drive and how we know is this:
Our favourite feature? The Fiesta has brilliant fuel efficiency. We logged-in three days of travel and not even a click on the fuel meter! Finally after about five days of long distance driving, we fueled up a half-tank on $26 CAN.
What I love most about the #FordFiesta (@fordcanada)

It is with great pleasure that we get to tell you about our experience test driving the Ford Escape SE this weekend. Gearing up for our Hollywood trip to attend the An Evening with Canada’s Stars Gala is something we’ve been looking forward to, but with that came a lot of advanced errands.
We also have been putting-off our visit to see A PIC BY MRWILL and after catching wind of her arrival at Woodbine to train, we stopped by to meet the sweet filly named in our honour! More on that here.
The first thing I noticed about the Ford Escape is its spaciousness. Â The SUV‘s deep seats – adjustable 10 ways – Â had us cradled in with the heated seating option almost mandatory in these cold conditions. Â Five sit comfortably and we love that the passengers in the rear also get their own heating/cooling vents!
Its hatchback operates with ease with two taps on the remote key and was it ever spacious, perfect for transporting heavy loads of groceries or household supplies.
Let’s talk about staying connected, which is uber-important to us. With two USB ports we simultaneously were able to keep our phone charged and also  listen to our favourite tunes stored on a USB key. The  nine-speaker SONY sound system, was focused front and center on the dashboard placing us right into  music.  Ford‘s SYNC system enabled us to make and take calls via Bluetooth through the car’s speakers, focused on the road.
Performance wise, its 1.6L EcoBoost® I-4 engine had us accelerating quickly, putting us in control of the road. Its front passenger airbags are ready at all times to protect us if ever needed and we loved the tire pressure monitoring system, ourselves having experienced a flat before!
The Ecoboost option is a dream for fuel efficiency. We used less than $40 of gas over four days of far commuting ranging from Mississauga to downtown to Toronto’s east end. Specifically, you get 10.9L/100 km in the city and 7.6L/100 km on the highway.
Despite its no-fuss practicality, the Escape has an element of luxury. Its over-sized moonroof made for ambiance.
Clearly it isn’t just we who agree the Escape is a great value starting at $23,699, we spotted on several occasions others of the like on our highways! Popular ride!
These @FordCanada Escapes are more popular than imagined. Drove alongside at least four of these within an hour! pic.twitter.com/HQQ8duzYx0

IÂ had the very special opportunity of test driving the 2015 Ford C-MAX Energi. The electric-hybrid not only is amazingly-spacious (literally five can be seated with plenty of room to spare), but also super-environmentally conscious.
I admit I was a bit terrified to try something new. An electric car? Really? What happens if my car runs out of battery? Or what if I can’t find a charging station? The fact is, the C-MAX Energi runs also on bronze fuel and  my own office even had a charging station in our underground parking and I didn’t even realize it!
Sized like an SUV, the C-MAX Energi is a combination of forward-thinking technology and luxury. I don’t think I ever have seen a moonroof as large as the one seen on this vehicle. The car has amazing control of the road, just as quick to brake as it is to accelerate. I felt fully in control with its 188 combined horsepower and safe with the C-MAX Energi’s curve and stability control, perfect for unpredictable Canadian weather. Its fuel efficiency also is remarkable, four days of highway driving using just one bar of gas on my dashboard using 2.7l/100 km on city and highway. The drivers’ seat – which are heatable – adjusts in a remarkable 10 ways.
The electric-hybrid comes in eight colours and we were lucky to try it in Ruby Red Metallic, elegant as it at once makes a flashy statement.
Let’s talk about the luxurious experience of driving the C-MAX Energi. Pairing with my Android Smartphone, I was able to access the soundtrack to my weekend, Adele‘s 25 over and over on repeat, in any which order from the touch LED dashboard, syncing perfectly via bluetooth and its nine speaker SONY sound system sounded mind-blowingly-good. The car includes not one but two  USB ports for all your charging needs, although playing protected content via the SYNC system still proves problematic meaning you cannot charge your phone or listen to those songs you bought off iTunes from your phone via USB connection.
Ford always is on the edge of innovation and I also had the opportunity to try pairing the C-MAX Energi with not only the My Ford Mobile app on my smartphone, but also a SONYÂ Smartwatch, making it possible to monitor mileage used, where exactly your car is or even lock and unlock your car from your wrist!
See for yourself:
Â
Only a little obsessed with the fact that I can charge the hybrid/electric #CMAXEnergi from #Ford. Can’t wait to go check up on it after its charge. A photo posted by Mr. Will Wong (@mrwillwong) on
We had the misfortune of experiencing a flat tire while driving our C-MAX Energi and to be honest wouldn’t even have realized it without its super intuitive tire pressure monitoring system. We got a notice on the dashboard about low tire pressure and pulled over immediately to a strip plaza late in the evening. Early in the day the next morning, we were advised the car was services and ready to go. This is the level of expedience and service we’ve come to love of Ford Canada!
Learn all about the C-MAX Energi here and if you don’t already have it, download the My Ford Mobile App on the Google Play store for your phone and Smartwatch!
