Review by Justin Waldman for Mr. Will Wong
Elephant Song focuses on the disappearance of a Psychiatrist, Lawrence (Colm Feore), and the last patient who saw him leave that day, Michael (Xavier Dolan). Michael is known for his trickery and psychological mind games against the Doctors in his sessions so anything is possible in regards to Lawrence’s disappearance. This is where Dr. Green (Bruce Greenwood) becomes involved as he is asked to see Michael to find-out about any information he can obtain in regards to Lawrence’s whereabouts. However, time is ticking as the Hospital is already facing bad publicity after an incident regarding another doctor was made public. As well since Michael is no fool to trickery, he knows some information regarding Dr. Green and Nurse Peterson (Catherine Keener) that allows his diluted mind games to continue further than anyone ever expected them to. Will the whereabouts of Dr. Lawrence be discovered before its too late, or will there be another scandal amongst the Hospital?
The performances from the entire Cast, especially brilliant Canadian Star Dolan, are truly what shines through the opaque glass in The Elephant Song. Keener and Greenwood also are fantastic in their Supporting Roles.
THE ELEPHANT SONG screens Wednesday, September 10, 2014 6:30 PM at Isabel Bader Theatre and Thursday, September 11, 2014 5 PM at Scotiabank Theatre.
