#REVIEW: “HEART OF THE BEAST”

David Ayer is back and out to tug on our heartstrings with his latest, HEART OF THE BEAST. This survival thriller, penned by Cameron Alexander, takes us into the wilderness with retired special forces veteran James Belmomt (Brad Pitt) with his trusted best friend Odin (Uber).
James and Odin are enjoying the quiet life following their retirement, after after suffering a medical episode that results in his plane crashing, both he and Odin are forced to use every survival technique they’ve got as they defy death in a gripping battle against a series of elements, whether it be terrain or predators in the wild.
At the core of the deeply-moving HEART OF THE BEAST, is a story of friendship which never for once has a false note. Both James and Odin are bound together by their past and what unpredictable challenges lie ahead for them. The Film really drives home the aftermath of PTSD these veterans, human and canine alike, endure at duty.
Even without a single line of dialogue, Uber emotes so enchantingly through his eyes and expressions, in what truly is an awe-inspiring performance. Pitt once again is tremendous, essentially carrying most of the weight here alone, making us both wince in his pain and affected by his strength and vulnerability.
HEART OF THE BEAST transcends the mold of just being “another dog film”. It is meaningful and compassionate, capturing so authentically just how deep love can run between pet parent and companion. HEART OF THE BEAST will fill your face with tears, and your heart with feeling.
