Prime Video expands its investment to Quebec’s entertainment landscape with today’s announcement of two major unscripted productions: the greenlight of international format, Karaoké Club, with Stéphane Rousseau as host, as well as the renewal of its hit series LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier?, for its fourth season, with Patrick Huard returning as host. Both series are produced by Attraction and will film in Montreal.
Karaoké Club, a new Amazon Original adapted from a successful international format, will feature celebrities invited to participate in a one-of-a-kind karaoke competition filled with entertaining challenges during a wild night of performances. As the night progresses, some celebrities will be kicked out of the Club, while new arrivals will shake up the dynamics.
“I’m delighted to be hosting and taking part in this crazy adventure on Prime Video,” says Stéphane Rousseau. “Karaoké Club will be a celebration of the pleasure of singing without restraint or taking ourselves too seriously. I can’t wait to see our artists dive into this unique competition where attitude counts as much as the voice!”
LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier? will also return to Prime Video with a sensational season 4. Patrick Huard returns as host for this original comedy series that uses 45 cameras to capture all the hilarious moments during an unpredictable six-hour competition. The series follows a select group of established comedy stars, actors and fan favourites who bring various styles to the table, including stand-up, character, improvisational, and physical comedy. LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier? is the Quebec adaptation of Documental, the successful Japanese Amazon Original series created by and starring Hitoshi Matsumoto and owned by Yoshimoto Kogyo.
“The show’s unique concept has already given us some cult moments. Who could forget Christine Morency’s fart in season 1 or Réal Béland’s legendary ‘Y reste 10 minutes’ in season 3? Each season is crazier than the last. I’m almost afraid of season 4,” says Patrick Huard.
In addition to being a must-see for comedy fans, LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier? continues its philanthropic commitment by donating $100,000 to a charity chosen by the winner of each season. To date, the show has supported Clowns Thérapeutiques Saguenay, Le Regroupement des Auberges du cœur, Fondation Sunny and Autisme Centre-du-Québec.
Both series are produced by Attraction for Amazon MGM Studios. The two series bring together over 200 artists and craftspeople from the region, and supports over 40 local suppliers with each season.
“We’re delighted to be working with Amazon MGM Studios again on these two major productions,” notes Richard Speer, president of Attraction. “These projects are a testament to the dynamism and creativity of our industry, and we look forward to providing Prime Video subscribers with moments of pure entertainment
The two series continue the investment in French-language content by Prime Video, including previous series and specials Nuit Blanche, Pendant ce temps en cuisine, Pour un soir seulement, L’ultime gala and Elisabeth Rioux: sans filtre.
Since 2015, Amazon MGM Studios has commissioned over 60 Amazon Original series and films in Canada, including The Man in the High Castle and Upload in British Columbia; The Boys, Reacher, and The Expanse in Ontario; Tales from the Loop in Manitoba; as well as parts of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, The Sticky, Three Pines, and The Voyeurs in Quebec.
The release dates for Karaoké Club and the new season of LOL: Qui Rira Le Dernier will be announced at a later date.
