Screenings take place Wednesday, August 9, 2017 in Toronto and Monday, August 14, 2017 in Vancouver.
Synopsis:
STEP is the true-life story of a girls’ high-school step dance team against the background of the heart of Baltimore. These young women learn to laugh, love and thrive – on and off the stage – even when the world seems to work against them. Empowered by their teachers, teammates, counselors, coaches and families, they chase their ultimate dreams: to win a step championship and to be accepted into college. This all female school is reshaping the futures of its students’ lives by making it their goal to have every member of their senior class accepted to and graduate from college, many of whom will be the first in their family to do so. Deeply insightful and emotionally inspiring, STEP embodies the true meaning of sisterhood through a story of courageous young women worth cheering for.

For a second week straight, DUNKIRK tops the Box Office for Warner Bros. with $27.5 million from 3,748 theatres, but if anything it is a narrow victory. Over two weeks, it has grossed $102 million.
THE EMOJI MOVIE debuts a close second with $27 million for Sony Pictures from 4,075 theatres. Critically it gets 6% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
GIRLS TRIP continues with a strong showing with $20 million, good enough for third in its second week out for Universal Pictures. It has made $65 million over two weeks.
ATOMIC BLONDE opens in fourth with $18.3 million for Focus Features/Universal Pictures from 3,305 theatres. It gets 75% on the Tomatometer and a B CinemaScore.
SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING is in firth with $13.6 million now in its fourth week out, a total $278.4 million earned for Sony Pictures.
WONDER WOMAN rounds-out the Top Ten for Warner Bros. with $3.6 million, a total $395 million over nine weeks.
Production is well under way for HBO‘s FAHRENHEIT 451, based on the Ray Bradbury Novel set in a dystopian world where media is an opiate, history is outlawed and where Firemen burn books.
In addition to serving as Executive Producer, the Film stars Michael B. Jordan (Creed, Black Panther) in its lead role. The Film stars also Michael Shannon as his mentor, whom he is at odds with trying to find greater humanity. Toronto’s Lilly Singh was just added to the Cast and Atomic Blonde star Sofia Boutella also stars.
While Shannon was in character, opting not to stop for photos, we spotted Jordan on a break filming on a campus in the east end into the late hours of the night. Very cautious not to be seen in wardrobe, Jordan stopped for a couple Selfies. He’s just as nice as we remember! Jordan, who next can be seen in Marvel‘s Black Panther as Erik Killmonger, last visited Toronto in 2015 for Creed.
