Following an overwhelming show of support at its opening night celebration
last night, acclaimed Toronto-based photojournalist Racheal McCaig’s landmark exhibition
50/20 is now officially open to the public at the historic El Mocambo.
Presented as part of the 2026 CONTACT Photography Festival and in celebration of the 50th
anniversary of Canadian Actors’ Equity Association, the exhibition is free to attend and runs until
May 20, 2026.
50/20 brings together two decades of photography documenting the artists, productions,
rehearsals, backstage moments, and performances that have helped shape Canadian theatre
and live performance culture. Through McCaig’s lens, audiences are invited into an intimate
visual archive that captures the humanity, collaboration, and creative energy behind some of
Canada’s most celebrated theatrical works and performers.
Featuring portraits and moments involving legendary Canadian talents including Martin Short,
Catherine O’Hara, Eugene Levy, Ross Petty and many others, the exhibition reflects the
breadth and depth of a national arts community whose impact continues to resonate across
generations.
More than a traditional gallery presentation, 50/20 is designed as an immersive experience.
Carefully curated music, digital installations, and large-scale photographic presentations
transform the El Mocambo into a living tribute to Canadian theatre culture. The exhibition moves
audiences through decades of artistic history while creating space to reflect on the often unseen
work that happens behind the curtain.
At its core, the exhibition highlights the importance of preserving and celebrating Canada’s
theatre history. McCaig’s photographs document not only performances, but the relationships,
labour, emotion, and creative process that sustain the performing arts community across the
country.
Held within one of Toronto’s most iconic cultural venues, the exhibition continues the El
Mocambo’s renewed vision as a multidisciplinary creative hub supporting music, visual art, and
live performance.
A highlight of the exhibition also includes Women Who Rock, McCaig’s permanent stairwell
installation at the El Mocambo honouring influential artists including Annie Lennox, Joni Mitchell,
Sarah McLachlan, Nelly Furtado, Jackie Richardson, and Angélique Kidjo.

BRITBOX ANNOUNCES NEW ORIGINAL SERIES CHOCOLATE WARS (WT), INSPIRED BY DEBORAH CADBURY’S BOOK AND THE TRUE STORY OF THE CADBURY FAMILY
The six-part series is produced by Fable Pictures and in association with Alfresco Pictures
Today, BritBox announced the new Original drama Chocolate Wars (WT), a commission with UKTV and Sony Pictures Television.
Inspired by Deborah Cadbury’s book and the true story of the Cadbury family, the period drama is produced by Fable Pictures, in association with Alfresco Pictures, and written by Chloë Mi Lin Ewart (All Creatures Great and Small, Beyond Paradise). The series will premiere on BritBox in 2027.
Chocolate Wars is a warm-hearted family drama following the visionary Cadbury family, the underdogs of the cocoa world, on their journey towards creating the world-famous Cadbury’s chocolate bar.
In 1860s Birmingham, when chocolate as we know it doesn’t yet exist, two very different brothers, Richard and George Cadbury, find themselves in charge of their family’s failing cocoa business. Between them, they have the radical genius and burning ambition to turn Cadbury’s into one of the world’s most beloved confectioners. But first, they must learn to trust and rely on each other. And to stop bickering for long enough to actually invent some chocolate! Their sister Maria is navigating her own role within the family and the business, but things become even more complicated when she falls in love with Cadbury’s biggest rival, and is forced to question where her true loyalties really lie. Infused with historical delights and magical invention, Chocolate Wars is about how we build, break and rebuild the bonds of family – and how the sweetest things in life are rarely simple.
The series (6×60’) is produced by Fable Pictures in association with Alfresco Pictures. Executive producers include Faye Ward, Freddie Highmore, Hannah Price and Claire Londy, with Jess O’Riordan and Jon Farrar executive producing for BritBox and Helen Perry for UKTV.
Directors for the series will be Tom McKay (After the Flood, Ten Pound Poms) and Jill Robertson (Ludwig, The Diplomat), with Hannah Farrell from Fable Pictures as series producer. Chloë Mi Lin Ewart leads the writing team, alongside Eve Hedderwick Turner and Karim Khan.
Casting is now underway, with filming in Birmingham set to begin this Summer. Sony Pictures Television will handle worldwide sales as international distributor, with Creative UK providing regional support through the ERDF funded West Midlands Production Fund.

In an effort to overcome grief and find herself again, Hollis gets the idea to host a weekend away at her house on Nantucket with three friends from different stages in her life: her childhood, her twenties, thirties, and one surprise fifth star. Set against a luxurious and coastal backdrop, the stars will mature in ways they could never imagine as boundaries are pushed and secrets are exposed.

When their convoy is brutally ambushed, she’s forced to put her life in his hands. As the sole survivors, handcuffed and on the run, they must race to reach their destination alive and on time.
Along the way, their uneasy alliance is tested as the syndicate closes in. Trust becomes a weapon and their shackled survival a moral dilemma, forcing Amber to confront how far she’ll go to protect what matters most.

This Spring, Lucie begins a new chapter with Chef Michael Angeloni at the helm, guiding the Michelin-recommended modern French restaurant through its evolution. Marking this transition is the debut of an à la carte offering and a refined raw bar experience centred around the restaurant’s signature bar.
On May 13, 2026 Lucie welcomed Chef Michael Angeloni as Partner & Executive Chef, joining Toronto restaurateur and Founder, Yannick Bigourdan and new Co-Owner Adam Teolis. Together, the three also own and operate three Toronto hot spots – The Berczy Tavern (listed as one of Foodism’s top restaurants for 2026), Notte Ristorante, and the newly opened Pasta Privato.
Nearly two decades ago, Angeloni and Bigourdan first connected in Toronto’s restaurant scene at Splendido, where Angeloni worked as a sous chef under the mentorship of Bigourdan and Chef David Lee. Working in the Splendido kitchen was one of several early experiences that grounded Angeloni in the discipline and precision of fine dining. It was there that the foundation for Bigourdan and Angeloni’s working relationship was formed. Now, years later, they reenter the world of French fine dining together, at Lucie.
“There’s a history there that you can’t really replicate,” says Bigourdan. “We’ve worked together long enough to understand how each other thinks.”
“Michael also knows what Lucie stands for at its core and brings a perspective that will allow it to grow,” he adds.
A New Way to Experience Lucie
Lucie has built its reputation on a refined menu experience – precise, restrained, and deeply focused. That foundation remains at the heart of the restaurant. Under Angeloni, it continues in a new, more personal way with the introduction of an à la carte menu that brings flexibility to the dining room for the first time. On this menu guests can expect:
Beef Pithivier – tenderloin encased in pastry, finished with mushroom jus and pomme purée
Seared Turbot – finished with kombu, miso, and roe
Tagliatelle – with beurre blanc and Ossetra caviar
“Classical cooking is a language, and at Lucie, we’re using it to say something Canadian,” says Angeloni. “The technique is rigorous, the ingredients are local, and the hospitality is the kind you’d find at a grandmother’s table. That combination is what this restaurant is.”
At the centre of this shift is also the introduction of a raw bar – reimagining Lucie’s central bar as a destination in its own right. It’s designed to feel inviting and approachable: a place for oysters and wine, small plates at the counter, or a full meal that unfolds informally. Raw bar offerings will include King Crab, Lobster Claws and PEI Mussels.
“Lucie already has a very clear identity,” says Angeloni. “The goal isn’t to change that – it’s to open it up. To give people more ways to come in, more ways to stay, and more reasons to return. For me, it also feels like a return to my French roots, which is exciting at this stage in my career. I’m looking forward to putting my own perspective on that foundation and expressing it through the dishes at Lucie in a way that still feels true to what the restaurant is.”
From Shared Kitchens to Shared Vision
Angeloni brings more than two decades of experience across some of Toronto’s most influential kitchens, each contributing to a style defined by discipline, clarity, and restraint.
His early career included work under Grant van Gameren at The Black Hoof, where he developed a foundation in whole-animal butchery and ingredient-driven cooking, followed by fine dining experience at Splendido with Chef David Lee. He went on to hold roles at L’Unità Enoteca and Grand Electric before stepping into leadership positions across The Berczy Tavern, Notte Ristorante, and Pasta Privato.
Bigourdan remains closely involved as Founder, continuing to guide Lucie’s long-term vision, while Teolis oversees day-to-day operations. With Angeloni leading the kitchen, the restaurant enters its next phase with continuity at its core and a renewed sense of flexibility in how it welcomes guests.
About Lucie
Lucie is where French technique meets Canadian terroir. A kitchen built on classical discipline and guided by the belief that the most extraordinary ingredient is often the one grown closest to home. Chef Michael Angeloni brings a grandmother’s warmth and a chef’s precision to every plate: foundational stocks, exacting butchery, and sauces built the old way, applied to the seasonal bounty of this country. The result is food that is visually refined and deeply comforting, served in a room that feels as alive as it does welcoming. It is Michelin-recommended.
