“Shōgun,” an original adaptation of James Clavell’s bestselling novel, is set in Japan in the year 1600 at the dawn of a century-defining civil war. Producer Hiroyuki Sanada stars as “Lord Yoshii Toranaga” who is fighting for his life as his enemies on the Council of Regents unite against him. When a mysterious European ship is found marooned in a nearby fishing village, its English pilot, “John Blackthorne” (Cosmo Jarvis), comes bearing secrets that could help Toranaga tip the scales of power and devastate the formidable influence of Blackthorne’s own enemies — the Jesuit priests and Portuguese merchants. Toranaga’s and Blackthorne’s fates become inextricably tied to their translator, “Toda Mariko” (Anna Sawai), a mysterious Christian noblewoman and the last of a disgraced line. While serving her lord amidst this fraught political landscape, Mariko must reconcile her newfound companionship with Blackthorne, her commitment to the faith that saved her and her duty to her late father.
“Shōgun” features an acclaimed highly decorated Japanese cast, unprecedented for an American production, including Tadanobu Asano as “Kashigi Yabushige,” a notorious backstabber and close ally of Toranaga; Hiroto Kanai as “Kashigi Omi,” the young leader of the fishing village where Blackthorne’s ship was found; Takehiro Hira as “Ishido Kazunari,” a powerful bureaucrat who is Toranaga’s chief rival; Moeka Hoshi as “Usami Fuji,” a widow who must find new purpose amidst her lord’s fight; Tokuma Nishioka as “Toda Hiromatsu,” Toranaga’s trusted general and closest friend; Shinnosuke Abe as “Toda Hirokatsu” (“Buntaro”), Mariko’s jealous husband; Yuka Kouri as “Kiku,” a courtesan renowned for her artistry throughout Japan; and Fumi Nikaido as “Ochiba no Kata,” the revered mother of the heir who will stop at nothing to put an end to Toranaga and his threat to her son’s power.
“Shōgun” is created for television by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, with Marks serving as showrunner and executive producer alongside Michaela Clavell, Edward L. McDonnell, Michael De Luca, and Kondo. The series is produced by FX Productions.

Today, Paramount+ in Canada and The Shine Network Institute (TSNI) announce the Indigenous Producers Budgeting Intensive, an online course and new resource to support the professional development and mentorship of Indigenous women in film, television and media. This first virtual course will be geared toward budgeting for film. It will be accessible on TSNI’s @Learnatshine platform and will launch on National Indigenous Peoples Day – Friday, June 21, 2024.
Geared toward emerging and mid-level Indigenous female producers, this first intensive course of 10 x one hour modules offer students hands-on learning accompanied by Indigenous framed tutorials designed to empower students as they prepare to produce their first feature film. The course will also include candid conversations with Indigenous female producers to inspire and motivate students by giving them access to industry veterans who can dispel myths and misconceptions about producing.
“Working with The Shine Network Institute on this course is truly the first step in our partnership,” said Doug Smith, SVP Streaming & Content Licensing Paramount Global, Canada. “After listening and consulting with Jennifer Podemski and her team over the past few months we are proud to collaborate on this online course which will provide tangible skills to those interested in line producing, one of the most important jobs on any set. It is also a project we can build on in the months and years to come to support even more of TSNI’s membership and the next generation of Indigenous producers.”
“I am thrilled to be partnering with Paramount + Canada for this course,” said Jennifer Podemski, President & CEO, The Shine Network Institute. “Partnerships like this allow TSNI to offer the highest level of training and mentorship while building capacity for Indigenous people within the screen sector. Although our mission at TSNI is to foster the careers of Indigenous women who are the least represented across the sector and experience the most disproportionate outcomes, this course, which will be offered on our @Learnatshine platform, is open to all Indigenous professionals working within Canada’s film, television and digital media space.”
This initiative is the third partnership Paramount+ in Canada has announced that reinforces its long-standing commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Earlier this fall, the company announced a collaboration with the Black Screen Office for the Black Creators Festival Initiative; a joint venture with BIPOC TV & Film, and the National Screen Institute Partner for the new ELEVATE program; and now TSNI’s Budget Online Intensive.
These programs are intricately connected to the mission of Paramount Global’s Content for Change initiative, which seeks to counteract narratives that enable bias, stereotypes and hate using the power of our content, the creative supply chain that powers it, and the culture that underpins everything we do.

Certified Lamb here! Have adored Mariah Carey for as long as I’ve remembered and after having such a blast at her show at Scotiabank Arena last year, I no doubt wanted part again this year upon hearing the show would be back!
Carey‘s 90-minute festive opus that is her MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL Tour solidifies what we’ve known already for years now, she’s the official “Queen of Christmas” and we need this show every year.
While there are mostly overlaps in the setlist from last year’s show, Carey makes some edits in this rendition and we can the addition of a couple different hits in a section later in the show where she brings out highlights from her catalog, including viral hit “It’s a Wrap“!
If I can be honest, the Show this year felt marginally smaller to the eye. We recall the stage feeling larger last year and perhaps with Toronto being the Tour’s first stop last year, and not this year, there was a palpable energy that felt a bit diminished this year. This is in no part due to the fantastic perfomers older and younger, joining Carey on-stage. How great is it that her son and daughter Moroccan and Monroe play a pivotal role, even getting solos!! We love that Carey had her “Glam Crew” join her on-stage on occasion for touch-ups which was incredibly entertaining!
Musical Director Daniel Moore ups the musicality in this year’s rendition of the Tour and the Band sounds fabulous, and Carey as always sounds phenomenal. But the costumes this year – designed by Fendi – are a real knockout, all shimmery, including one ensemble with a gorgeous tiara.
Some highlights from the Show:
@mrwillwong So much fun at Mariah Carey’s MERRY CHRISTMAS ONE AND ALL Toronto stop at Scotiabank Arena. Forever a lamb!! While this show felt smaller than last year’s show and missing some of that energy we got, some things the show improved upon was the musicality – the Band was amazing – and oh my God, the costumes by Fendi were outstanding. Amazing seeing Mariah’s kids Moroccan and Monroe play an integral part to the experience! #fyp #foryoupage #merrychristmas #merrychristmasoneandall #merrychristmasoneandalltour #mc #mariah #toronto #mariahcarey ♬ original sound – Mr. Will Wong
