They don’t come much more down-to-earth than these two Guys and Toronto gave two of its favourite Canadians a welcome return home at Scotiabank Theatre tonight. Writer/first-time Director Evan Goldberg (Superbad, Pineapple Express) and Funnyman Seth Rogen both hail originally from Vancouver but have found widespread success south of the Border.
The Duo who have long been Friends and Collaborators, are in-town to promote highly-touted Comedy This is The End, boasting an A-List Cast of Hollywood Heavyweights starring as themselves including: James Franco, Jonah Hill, Danny McBride, Jay Baruchel, Michael Cera, Craig Robinson, Emma Watson, Channing Tatum, Rihanna and several, several more. Set around a wild Party at Franco‘s House, This is the End suddenly places these Celebrities amidst a sudden Apocalypse. Faced with the challenges of having to ration what limited supplies are left in his home, they find their Friendships tested to every possible limit. Tempers flare, daggers are thrown and the laughs are infinite.
Walking an intimate Red Carpet tonight with a few select Media Outlets, the order of the day was Work as both Rogen and Goldberg plowed through a series of Interviews, opting to stay-in for Dinner at the Theatre. They even treated Fans to a Q&A following the Advance Screening, fielding questions from Fans ranging from the Backstreet Boys’ surprise involvement in the Finale to the difficulties of shopping their Script originally. “I wish I could say it was really hard to get the Backstreet Boys, but it wasn’t that hard!”, laughs Rogen. “We released a scene in December and the Backstreet Boys had heard about the Movie and had seen a Trailer for it. Evidently, it was Movie they were excited for and we were all losing our minds!”.
On the challenges the Duo faced shopping their Script, Rogen told the Audience, “We do this thing every time we write a Script thinking we’ve re-invented the wheel, and then we put it out to sell and nobody wants to buy it!”. “We even had all six major Movie Stars attached to it and because the idea we all are playing ourselves, people were terrified”, he says. “I think it’s never been done before and Movie Studios hate to be the first one to do something. It’s happened enough times that whatever scares them, ultimately they will embrace and love in the end!”.
I captured some Clips of Rogen & Goldberg at tonight’s Screening. Watch below:

After making a splash at Sundance last year, many of us were hoping to see BACHELORETTE in theatres in these parts, but unfortunately that never came. Now however, is your chance to see this amazing Comedy starring red-hot Rebel Wilson, Kirsten Dunst, Lizzy Caplan and Isla Fisher. This is a Story about Redemption and Growing-Up – bitingly funny and at moments painfully raw.
Official Synopsis:
On the night before an old Friend’s Wedding, three frisky Bridesmaids go searching for a little fun but find much more than they bargained for. With lovely Becky (Wilson) set to marry her handsome sweetheart, Dale (Hayes MacArthur), the remaining members of her High School Clique reunite for one last Bachelorette bacchanal in the Big Apple. Regan (Dunst) is an overachieving, uber-Maid of Honor who’s secretly smarting over the fact that she’s not the first to marry, while Gena (Caplan) is a whip-smart Sarcastic who’s actually a closet Romantic, and Katie (Fisher) is a ditzy Beauty who loves the good life. But when Becky insists on keeping the Bachelorette Party tame, the Women proceed with an After-Hours Celebration of their own.

Concluding the 66th annual Cannes Film Festival, the Main Jury (headed by Steven Spielberg, including Nicole Kidman and Ang Lee) handed-out their Prizes earlier today. Winning top honours this year, the Palme d’Or, was Blue is the Warmest Colour (La vie d’Adèle), directed by Abdellatif Kechiche. The racy Drama, clocking-in at over three hours, is about a teenage Girl who has an affair with a Woman. It also has the distinction of winning the FIPRESCI Competition Prize.
In the acting categories Bérénice Bejo, who received an Oscar nomination for her silent performance in The Artist, won Best Actress for Italian-French Production The Past, about a Parisian Woman looking to divorce her Iranian Husband. Bruce Dern won Best Actor for his work in Nebraska, directed by Alexander Payne (Sideways, The Descendants), about a Father and Son who reunite to claim a Sweepstakes prize. The Drama which stars SNL Alumni Will Forte, gets a November release via Paramount Pictures in North America.
Winning the Grand Prix was eagerly-awaited Coen Brothers Film, Inside Llewyn Davis. Set in the ’60s, the Drama about the Folk Music Scene stars an exciting Cast of Carey Mulligan, Justin Timberlake, Garrett Hedlund, John Goodman and Oscar Isaac.
Mexican Filmmaker Amat Escalante won Best Director for his work on Heli, a Mexican Drama about a Family torn-apart by drugs.
On our radars is Fruitvale Station, to be distributed by eOne Films in select Canadian Citiies on July 26, 2013. The Ryan Coogler Drama, which was a Hit at Sundance earlier this year, picked-up the Future Prize and is about a 22-year-old Man’s final day on New Year’s Eve 2008.
Clearly on the Awards Trail and release dates scheduled for later this year, perhaps we can expect Nebraska, Inside Llewyn Davis, The Past and Blue is the Warmest Colour to surface in Toronto at TIFF this September?

Expectations were high for Fast & Furious 6, but this latest Film in the Franchise is a Monster indeed on an international scale, debuting this weekend with $98.5 million alone in North America from 3,658 theatres. Globally already, it has made an amazing $275.5 million for Universal Pictures. Made for $160 million, it looks well on its way to recouping that money back for Universal Pictures in a – pardon the pun – fast ‘n’ furious manner! Audiences also loved the Film giving it a coveted A CinemaScore and many Critics agreed with 72% at Rotten Tomatoes. With all releases surpassing an expected $300 million at the Box Office this U.S. Memorial Day Weekend, a new Box Office record was established for the Holiday. Combined, all six Films in the Franchise have made $797.4 million domestically.
Debuting in second with $42.4 million this weekend for Warner Bros., is the conclusion to The Wolfpack Trilogy, The Hangover Part III, from 3,555 theatres. Still solid, this Installment falls short compared to its 2011 Predecessor The Hangover Part II, which debuted with $85.9 million. Although Critics didn’t respond favorably, tallying a 25% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, Audiences seemed to enjoy it with a B CinemaScore. To date, the Series in North America has grossed $574 million.
Following closely behind in third is Star Trek Into Darkness which in its second week of release earns $38 million. In its two-week run, it has grossed $155 million for Paramount Pictures.
Without much choice in terms of Family-oriented Films, Epic opens to a smart $34.2 million for 20th Century Fox in fourth spot. Starring an interesting array of voices, the Animated Feature boasts a Cast of: Beyoncé, Josh Hutcherson, Steven Tyler, Pitbull, Aziz Ansari, Amanda Seyfried and Christoph Waltz.
Not to be disgraced, Iron Man 3 continues to draw a crowd in fifth spot, now in its third week earning $19.4 million, with a total of $373 in its domestic run to date. Not far behind is The Great Gatsby which also in its third week out, closes the gap on that Box Office rival with $13.7 million at number six.
Bubbling under, the eagerly-awaited third Film in its Romance Series Before Midnight, opens in only five theatres across the U.S. in Limited Release, earning an impressive $274k. Torontonians and Vancouverites will have to wait till June 7, 2013 when it gets a release north of the Border.
If this really is happening, we and most of Twitter approves! Kit Harington and Rachel McAdams were spotted out together last night in Toronto having a late Dinner at Bar Hop on trendy King Street West. An excited Fan, Vanessa Elecia posted to Twitter “the proof” even, a rare Group Photo with the two Stars.
McAdams (the sweetest Girl ever!) of course is back in her Hometown after wrapping Thriller, A Most Wanted Man, alongside Philip Seymour Hoffman and Robin Wright. She next will begin work on an untitled Cameron Crowe (Almost Famous) Film which currently Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper also are attached to. About Time, in which she stars opposite Domnhall Gleeson, will be out in time for the Holidays, with its Trailer posted last week here.
Game of Thrones Star Harington as we all know, is filming Paul W.S. Anderson‘s Pompeii and we’ve had the pleasure of spotting him a couple times already in the past month! More on that here.
Before we all jump to conclusions and say they’re totally dating, Onlookers did tell us McAdams and Harington were with a group of Friends and after being seen at Bar Hop, they later were spotted at The Peacock Bar down the street! How is it that McAdams, who’s only here off-and-on throughout the year, knows all the It-Spots and we don’t? *shame*

Everyone’s talking about Jennifer Aniston again and this is exactly why! A brand new Trailer for We’re the Millers has just surfaced and you won’t believe your eyes! And trust me, we’re still recovering from her naughty performance in 2011 Box Office Hit, Horrible Bosses. Sorta one part Harold & Kumar, a little like Weeds and kinda The Brady Bunch, this perhaps is the most outlandish Plot Line to hit the theatres this Summer.
Official Synopsis for We’re The Millers:
David Burke (Jason Sudeikis) is a small-time Pot Dealer whose clientele includes Chefs and Soccer Moms, but no Kids—after all, he has his scruples. So what could go wrong? Plenty. Preferring to keep a low profile for obvious reasons, he learns the hard way that no good deed goes unpunished when he tries to help out some local teens and winds up getting jumped by a trio of gutter punks. Stealing his stash and his cash, they leave him in major debt to his Supplier, Brad (Ed Helms). In order to wipe the slate clean—and maintain a clean bill of health—David must now become a big-time Drug Smuggler by bringing Brad‘s latest shipment in from Mexico. Twisting the arms of his neighbors, cynical stripper Rose (Jennifer Aniston) and wannabe Customer Kenny (Will Poulter), and the tatted-and-pierced streetwise teen Casey (Emma Roberts), he devises a foolproof plan. One fake Wife, two pretend Kids and a huge, shiny RV later, the Millers are headed south of the border for a Fourth of July weekend that is sure to end with a bang.

And for the not-so-light-hearted, here is the Red-Band (NSFW) Trailer:

Although filming has wrapped for hilarious-looking new Comedy Dr. Cabbie (formerly Dr. Cabbie’s Meter’s Running) one of its Stars was still spotted in-town earlier today after a grueling week which saw lengthy overnight shoots. The stunning Adrianne Palicki was spotted walking her adorable Dog, Olly earlier today, casual and gorgeous in Tank Top and Sunglasses. Ever kind, the Rising Star stopped for a quick Snap and was absolutely lovely and gracious.
Television audiences will remember Palicki for her fantastic work as Tyra Collette on NBC‘s Friday Night Lights. Like many of her Co-Stars, her profile has been boosted significantly of late including a starring role in this year’s Box Office Hit G.I. Joe: Retaliation from Paramount Pictures.
Palicki stars in the Jean Francois Pouliot Film as the Love Interest of Deepak (Vinay Virmani), a young Indian Doctor who ventures to Canada, becoming a Local Hero merging both his Cab Driving and Medical Skills! There is even some Bollywood-style dancing in the Film. Amaze.
We spotted Big Bang Theory Star Kunal Nayyar also last week and he too stars in the Comedy! Local Celebrities Kardinal Offishall and KISS 92.5‘s Mocha even make Cameos!
Although it’s really pushing it, there are hopes this will premiere at TIFF if not this year, maybe next year?
