Three-time Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep goes electric and takes on a whole new gig – a hard-rocking singer/guitarist – for Oscar®-winning director Jonathan Demme and Academy Award®-winning screenwriter Diablo Cody in the uplifting comedy Ricki and the Flash.  In a film loaded with music and live performance, Streep stars as Ricki, a guitar heroine who gave up everything for her dream of rock-and-roll stardom, but is now returning home to make things right with her family.  Streep stars opposite her real-life daughter Mamie Gummer, who plays her fictional daughter; Rick Springfield, who takes on the role of a Flash member in love with Ricki; and Kevin Kline, who portrays Ricki’s long-suffering ex-husband.

Since hearing about BORN TO BE BLUE being filmed here in Ontario, our eyes have been peeled for updates. We love Musician Biopics and this one looks every bit as gritty as it sounds. Today we get our first glimpse via a just-released Still of Ethan Hawke as Chet Baker.  Knowing Hawke, he always goes deeps and delivers. We have high hopes!  Look above for the Still!

Official Synopsis:

Born to Be Blue, directed by Robert Budreau, is a powerful re-imagining of jazz legend Chet Baker‘s fall and rebirth in the 60’s. When Chet stars in a film about himself, a romance quickly heats up with his beautiful and enigmatic African American co-star, Jane (Carmen Ejogo). Production is shelved when Chet is jumped in an alleyway and suffers a beating that means he may never play music again, but Jane challenges Chet to mount a musical comeback against all the odds.

After a two-year absence, new Mommy Kelly Clarkson returns to the Pop Music scene with a hot new Single! If you loved My Life Would Suck Without You and Stronger, you’ll v. much enjoy new Track HEARTBEAT SONG! Co-written with Kara DioGuardi, Audra Mae and Jason Evigan, the Track actually sounds a lot like 2001’s The Middle by Jimmy Eat World with an interesting syncopated beat in the choruses.  The Track is from her forthcoming seventh Studio Disc Piece by Piece, due later this year.

Pastry Chef Pascal Rigo was in Toronto yesterday to help ring-in a new phase in Starbucks‘ illustrious and caffeinated Story. Let’s face it – not all Starbucks food is stellar. In response to this, Starbucks had acquired Rigo‘s San Francisco-based La Boulange™ in 2012 and next month, the Bakery’s deliciousness will be taking over the Pastry Cases of Starbucks across Canada.  It is estimated by March 2015, that 70% of Starbucks stores across Ontario and British Columbia will be carrying exclusively La Boulange™ goodies. The roll-out continues through Atlantic Canada and Quebec late March and Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba by June.

We absolutely loved MAGIC MIKE, hence we are even more pumped about MAGIC MIKE XXL for all the obvious reasons!  Although Gregory Jacobs takes over direction from Steven Soderbergh here, this looks to be every bit as sultry and entertaining as the first. This new Poster for perhaps one of the most anticipated Sequels in quite some time, cleverly places the words “COMING” right in Channing Tatum‘s nether-regions.  Calm down, now Ladies…
