Local bakery and family-run landmark, Sanremo, famous for its Italian treats with a modern twist has created a special edition donut in celebration of Cirque du Soleil’s milestone 40th Anniversary and the iconic Big Top that has become an annual staple in the neighbourhood of Mimico.
The current Toronto production of ECHO is chockful of surprises, which was the inspiration for the “Candy Apple Cloud Donut” created by Sanremo Head Chef and Co-Owner, Ed Bozzo. The classic Italian donut is topped with airy swirls of toasted meringue (inspired by the cloud imagery of ECHO), with a surprise filling of candied apples.
The ECHO-inspired donut is available in-store for a limited time in conjunction with Cirque du Soleil’s 40th Anniversary Sale running Tuesday, June 11th at 9am ET. Cirque fans can take advantage of 40% off regular tickets to ECHO, on sale for 40 hours only until June 13 at 1:00am ET. Tickets are available at cirquedusoleil.com/echo.
The Candy Apple Cloud is $4.00 per donut, and available during store hours from June 11 – 13th. Sanremo is open Tuesdays to Sundays, 8am – 5pm located at 374 Royal York Rd, Etobicoke – less than 10mins from the Big Top.

Since premiering in May, ECHO has delighted more than 100,000 audiences to-date with its jaw-dropping acrobatics such as Cirque du Soleil’s first-ever duo hair suspension act, Icarian Games, triple teeterboards, and a two-storey high CUBE that features incredible projections and moving parts. It was a star-studded evening at the highly anticipated Toronto premiere of Cirque du Soleil’s newest production, ECHO, presented by Sun Life. Last night, Cirque du Soleil welcomed more than 2500 VIP guests, stars of film, television and music, notable influencers as well as business and philanthropic leaders who converged under the Big Top for an unforgettable show.
Canada’s Got Talent judges Trish Stratus and Kardinal Offishall made it a family night out, as did some of the cast of Workin’ Moms: Dani Kind, Juno Rinaldo, Sarah McVie; and celebrity chefs Lynn Crawford and Claudio Aprile.
Music fans were abuzz with excitement and sightings of their favourite artists from the likes of pop sensation Shawn Desman, ‘90s icon SNOW, soul artist Karl Wolf, EDM DJ Frank Walker, and international Brazilian music star Naldo Benny was in Toronto to see ECHO.
R&B songstress turned entertainment host Keshia Chante mixed and mingled with fellow TV and media personalities such as Arisa Cox, Roz Weston, Scott McGillivray, and Sarah Richardson. Also enjoying the festivities were Law & Order Toronto’s Karen Robinson, K.C. Collins and Araya Mengesha.
A fun moment that was captured on the red carpet with Trish Stratus, Mary Berg (The Good Stuff) and Cheryl Hickey striking an acrobatic pose. But not to be outdone, Cirque du Soleil artists also made cameos on Red Carpet to pose with guests – all part of the revelry celebrating Cirque du Soleil’s 40th anniversary year which also included an Air Canada food truck serving what else, but poutine!
The ground-breaking, futuristic show mesmerized audiences under the Big Top, garnering laughter, awe, and some heart-stopping moments throughout the show. Highlights include a (literally) hair-raising duo hair suspension act – one of the many “firsts” in ECHO:

By George Kozera for Mr. Will Wong
The official Synopsis of Cirque du Soleil’s KURIOS (CABINET OF CURIOSITIES) is as follows: The story is about a scientist, known as The Seeker, who is convinced that there is an invisible world in his larger-than-life cabinet full of crazy ideas and grand dreams, which defy the laws of time, space, and dimension. Determined to reinvent everything around him, suddenly the visible becomes invisible, perspectives are transformed, and the world is literally turned upside down.
Boy, does it ever!
I’ve been fortunate to have seen many Cirque du Soleil productions, both in Montreal and Toronto, and I can emphatically and unequivocally state that KURIOS exceeds expectations. From the Company’s opening statement that they were thrilled to perform in front of an audience for the first time in over two and a half years to the rousing finale, the audience was apoplectic with joy and awe. The constant thunderous applause throughout the Show reverberated in the Big Tent at Ontario Place. The two-hour show is a whirlwind of death-defying acts, coupled with sweet humour, infectious music, outlandishly original costumes, and choreography. Thought you were cool in school when you were able to “walk the dog” with your yoyo? Just wait until you see one hypnotic performer do “tricks” in time to a hyperkinetic Soundtrack. You think the contortionists manipulating their lithe bodies into positions unknown was mind blowing? Just wait thirty seconds and your mind will explode! And when the Synopsis says that the world is turned upside, it’s not hyperbole – it DOES turn upside down.
Cirque du Soleil’s strength with manipulating typical circus fare and elevating it high into the stratosphere is on full force. KURIOS had the adults in the seats following a spotlight to see where the invisible lion has escaped to!
Taking place at Ontario Place from April 14-July 17, 2022 Cirque du Soleil: KURIOS (CABINET OF CURIOSITIES) is must-see. More here including how to get tickets.
