Prime Video rolls out an improved streaming experience—here’s what’s new from them!
From Prime Video:
Prime Video is bringing clarity and simplicity back to streaming with improvements to its user experience that will begin to roll out globally today, and will become available to all customers in the coming weeks.
There’s so much to discover on Prime Video, and with these updates, you’ll be able to navigate across our vast entertainment destination with ease. With more personalized recommendations powered by generative AI, you can discover content that is tailored to your individual preferences, allowing you to spend more time watching and less time browsing. Plus, we’re making it easier to quickly identify movies and series that are available at no additional cost to your Prime membership, find new blockbusters to rent or buy, and add and manage add-on subscriptions.
“We’re always listening to customers and reviewing feedback, and it’s clear that many are in search of a more intuitive streaming experience,” said Kam Keshmiri, Vice President of Design at Prime Video. “With the improvements we have made to the user experience, customers will be presented with an easy-to-navigate entertainment destination where they can discover new titles and enjoy favorites, as well as sign-up or switch add-on subscriptions with just a few clicks. Best of all, they can do this while using a single login.”
Prime Video offers a large collection of premium programming in a single application across thousands of device types. You can explore a vast array of titles on Prime Video including Amazon MGM Studios-produced series and movies Road House, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Fallout, Reacher, The Boys, and The Idea of You; licensed fan favorites including American Fiction and The Boys in the Boat; live sports like the upcoming Prime Monday Night Hockey; acclaimed sports documentaries such as Chosen One: Alexandre Daigle and Federer; programming from Prime Video add-on subscriptions like Crave, StackTV, Sportsnet, Paramount+, Crunchyroll and MGM+; and the latest blockbusters fresh from theaters to rent or buy.
Here are the updates coming to the Prime Video user experience.
Content-forward navigation bar & single-click access to titles with the hero rotator
When launching Prime Video, you’ll notice a new navigation bar. Here, you will see purpose-built destinations including “Home,” “Movies,” “TV Shows,” “Sports,” and “Live TV,” as well as active add-on subscriptions, like Crave or Paramount+, allowing you to navigate by content type.
A new “Prime” destination will also be available in the navigation bar, which allows you to browse movies, TV shows, sports and linear broadcasts available at no additional cost with a Prime membership. Here, you can also find information about other Prime benefits available in your country, such as exclusive deals and benefits.
Just below the navigation bar, the hero rotator will showcase content you can watch with a subscription, rent or buy, as well as a range of promotions including Prime member deals and subscription bundles. Plus, you can directly play, purchase or subscribe to watch, making it easier to start watching the titles you love.
You can now browse, sign-up and manage your active add-on subscriptions directly from the navigation bar. In Canada you can explore add-on subscriptions by selecting “Subscriptions.” Here, in addition to what you’re already signed up for, you can find new options that are uniquely recommended based on your preferences, previous rentals, and viewing history. Plus, the subscriptions destination will display deals and discounted bundles of subscriptions from third-party services, all in one place.
Improved recommendations and clarity around the content that’s included with a Prime membership
Personalized recommendations have always been essential to the Prime Video experience. However, improvements to personalization features, which were created with the assistance of Generative AI, will make it easier to find the content that is the most relevant to you.
To power this experience, Prime Video uses Amazon Bedrock, a fully managed AWS service for building and scaling generative AI applications with foundational models, to generate personalized recommendations for customers.
In addition to recommendations, you can browse content by taste and other categories such as “Top 10 in the Canada” or “Trending Shows.” And now, it will be easier than ever to see what is included with a Prime membership and what you may need to pay extra for. Prime and add-on subscription logos, like MGM+ or Crunchyroll, will appear on the hero and title cards of a movie or TV show to help inform you about which subscription the content is coming from. If a title requires additional payment, a yellow shopping bag will be visible.
Plus, Prime Video is utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) to simplify the synopses for TV Shows and Movies, so you can quickly glance at a title description, rather than having to scroll to decide if it is something you’d want to watch.
New animations, smooth page transitions and zoom effects are a few of the enhancements for a frictionless and enjoyable streaming experience you can look forward to.
When using a living room device, video content will play on the hero rotator as you determine what to watch, creating an immersive browsing experience. And on the “Live TV” destination, recommended 24/7 stations will automatically start playing. They will continue to do so as you transition into full screen playback, or exit out to browse other stations.
Prime Video has optimized the experience across all devices, including older models, so everyone can enjoy.
And these updates are just the start. At Prime Video, we always innovate on behalf of our customers and will continue to improve the user experience so customers can seamlessly navigate and discover content they’ll love across our vast entertainment destination.

Announced at the Amazon Connected Worlds event in Toronto, Prime Video unveiled seven new projects receiving green lights in Canada. The titles include three projects with Tom Green, with the comedy pioneer also serving as director and executive producer on the projects; two Canadian true crime docuseries from leading producers and directors in the genre; a northern Canadian survival show; and a heart-warming true story of love. Prime members in Canada enjoy savings, convenience, and entertainment, all in a single membership, for just $9.99/month or the best value of $99.99/year.
Since 2015, Amazon MGM Studios has commissioned over 40 Amazon Original series and films in Canada, confirming its commitment to Prime members in the country. Prime Video’s investment in the Canadian film and television production sector includes Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Believe, three seasons of LOL: Qui rira le dernier?, the upcoming maple syrup heist series, The Sticky, the upcoming docu-series The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal; and Canadian-shot Amazon Originals like The Boys, Gen V, Reacher, and The Expanse in Ontario; Upload and The Man in the High Castle in British Columbia; Tales from the Loop in Manitoba; as well as parts of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan and The Voyeurs in Quebec.
“We are excited to continue to greenlight and commission to produce content from Canada that will join our growing slate of Canadian stories that include drama, comedy, unscripted reality, documentary in both English and French,” said Brent Haynes, Head of Originals, Canada at Amazon MGM Studios. “Following the success of Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make Believe, The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith, and our two hockey documentaries with NHL productions, today’s announcement is our largest number of unscripted titles to be greenlit”.
“We are thrilled to be working with so many of the best producers in Canada to bring these titles to our Canadian customers. From award-winning Canadian titles to must watch guilty pleasures we are offering even more content our audiences want to see from great Canadian talent,” said Shaun Alperin, head of content, Prime Video, Canada.
Titles announced today include:
Tom Green Country
In Tom Green Country the legendary comedian, Tom Green, pulls up stakes and relocates from the bright lights of Hollywood to a simpler life on his newly purchased country farm. Joined by his 1,500-pound mule, a donkey and six chickens the reality series gives a heartwarming glimpse into the hilarious life on the farm – as only Tom Green can. The unscripted reality series, Tom Green Country, is executive produced by Rory Rosegarten and Tom Green who also serves as the series director.
Untitled Tom Green Comedy Special
Tom Green’s newest comedy special captures the iconic comedian’s most recent 40+ city comedy tour across North America. From his hometown show in Ottawa, Canada, to stages across the US, Tom Green showcases his willingness to take risks, push boundaries and his ability to blend humor with heart. The project is executive produced by Rory Rosegarten and Tom Green who also serves as director.
Untitled Tom Green Documentary
One of the most impactful comedy talents in the last 30 years, the documentary follows Tom Green’s career as a trailblazing influence on comedy, film, television, and internet culture. With thousands of hours of digitalized personal footage, rare episodes, and unseen raw footage past series and film, the documentary captures the early days of his humble beginnings in Canada, to stardom in Hollywood, as he goes full circle and returns to his roots moving from his LA home to a rural farm in the country. Tom reveals the highs and lows of his journey including his creative process, his controversial antics, and unique brand of humor that has had a lasting impact on a generation of comedians. The documentary is produced by Jack Turner and Leah Culton Gonzalez from Matador Content, a Boat Rocker Company. The documentary is directed and executive produced by Tom Green and executive produced by Rory Rosegarten.
In Cold Water: The Shelter Bay Mystery
The riveting and chilling true crime docuseries tells the story of small-town Canadian school teacher Laura Letts-Beckett and former city councilor New Zealander Peter Beckett, and the drowning death of Laura one sunny day in 2008 on a lake in the wilderness of British Columbia, Canada. Was it a tragic accident, as Peter claims – or was her death a pre-mediated murder by a cold-blooded husband, as the police and prosecution assert? The documentary is a C3 Media and AJP Productions Inc. co-production with executive producers Pablo Salzman, Michael Kronish, Suze Hannagan, Thomas Robins, Kim Roberts, Benjamin Duffield, and directed by Trish Neufeld.
Hard North
Hard North follows a diverse group of young Canadians as they embark on a challenging four-season mission: to build a life in the vast and unforgiving Canadian wilderness. The series takes viewers on an adventure through some of the country’s most remote and rugged landscapes as these aspiring homesteaders face the harsh realities of living off the land, building shelter and foraging for food and water. The series is produced by Blue Ant Studios, in association with Prime Video, National Geographic, and APTN, with financing participation of Rogers Cable Network Fund and the Canada Media Fund. Paul Kilback is the creator and showrunner. Matthew Hornburg, Mark J.W. Bishop, Donna Luke and Tara Elwood are Executive Producers. Blue Ant Studios holds worldwide distribution rights for the series.
50k First Dates
When memory is destroyed and logic gone, is intuition enough to fall in love (again, and again, and again)? 50k First Dates and unscripted docuseries is the dramatic, almost unbelievable true story of Nesh Pillay, a 32-year-old woman who mysteriously lost the last 15 years of her memory, including recollection of her fiancé. The series is produced by Peacock Alley Entertainment. Carrie Mudd (Travelers, Tiny Pretty Things) and Brent Hodge (Pharma Bro, The Longest Third Date) serve as executive producers. Hodge will also serve as director.
Untitled True Crime Series
The true crime docuseries from Blink49 follows a currently unfolding case with never-before-seen footage, testimony and evidence of a shocking story affecting women across Canada’s largest metropolis, Toronto. The docuseries follows the real-life case with its greatest twists and turns still to come and the film-makers being pulled into the story as it happens. The project is directed by Henry Roosevelt (Take Care of Maya), executive produced by Toby Dormer, Allison Brough and producer Allyson Luchak (The Staircase).
The announced projects join the slate of Canadian Amazon Original series and films including TIFF 2023 People’s Choice Documentary Award and Canadian Screen Award-winner Mr. Dressup: The Magic of Make-Believe, Luxe Listings: Toronto, LOL: Qui rira le dernier?, Pour un Soir Seulement, Nuit Blanche, L’ultime gala, Three Pines, Chosen One: Alexandre Daigle, Saving Sakic, All or Nothing: Toronto Maple Leafs, The Kids in the Hall, The Lake, LOL: Last One Laughing Canada, The Unsolved Murder of Beverly Lynn Smith and the upcoming series The Sticky, The Tragically Hip: No Dress Rehearsal, and Elisabeth Rioux: sans filtre.
These series will join Prime Monday Night Hockey, which will stream all national regular season Monday night NHL games in English for the 2024/25 and 2025/26 NHL seasons, and the thousands of TV shows and movies from Hollywood and around the world in the Prime Video catalogue, including award-winning and critically acclaimed Amazon Originals The Boys, The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Fallout, Reacher, and the upcoming I Am: Celine Dion.
Today, during Prime Video’s inaugural Upfronts presentation, it was announced that the Emmy-winning hit drama series The Boys, has been ordered for a fifth season. “The Boys is an unabashed and bold series that continues captivating our customers all over the world by piercing the cultural fabric season after season,” said Vernon Sanders, head of television, Amazon MGM Studios. “We are proud of this series that has grown into a global franchise, and we are thrilled that Eric Kripke and the creative team have more engaging stories to tell for all the loyal fans.”
“The Boys could be the best job I’ll ever have. What other show allows me to write about politics, capitalism, family, and exploding genitalia, though not in that order,” said Eric Kripke, Showrunner for The Boys, “the cast and crew are deeply grateful to Sony Pictures Television and Amazon MGM Studios for the opportunity to tell this story for another season. My only problem is that since this year promises to be free of any conflict or misinformation, we’re not sure what to write about.”
“Since its premiere, devoted fans across the globe have been down with The Boys for this unapologetically wild ride,” says Katherine Pope, President, Sony Pictures Television Studios, “and we couldn’t be more proud of our producers, writers, cast, and crew who bring this genius insanity to life. Now, with a fifth chapter to their story, we can’t wait to see where Eric Kripke and The Boys go next.”
The Boys is based on The New York Times best-selling comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson, who also serve as executive producers, and developed by executive producer and showrunner Eric Kripke. Seth Rogen, Evan Goldberg, James Weaver, Neal H. Moritz, Pavun Shetty, Phil Sgriccia, Michaela Starr, Paul Grellong, David Reed, Meredith Glynn, Judalina Neira, Ken F. Levin, and Jason Netter also serve as executive producers. The Boys is produced by Sony Pictures Television, Amazon MGM Studios with Kripke Enterprises, Original Film, and Point Grey Pictures.
In Season Four, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office and under the muscly thumb of Homelander, who is consolidating his power. Butcher, with only months to live, has lost Becca’s son and his job as The Boys’ leader. The rest of the team are fed up with his lies. With the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world before it’s too late.
The fourth season of The Boys stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Antony Starr, Erin Moriarty, Jessie T. Usher, Laz Alonso, Chace Crawford, Tomer Capone, Karen Fukuhara, Colby Minifie, Claudia Doumit, and Cameron Crovetti. Season Four also will welcome Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.

The Lake S2
Amazon Original comedy series The Lake is back with season two and ready to bring more laughs, gasps and a whirlwind of twists and turns this summer. In season two, Justin (Jordan Gavaris) and Riley (Travis Nelson) decide to make their relationship official. But their plans, along with the beloved boathouse, go up in flames. Carrying equal parts shame and blame, Justin sets out to prove his innocence, rebuild the heart of the lake, and win back the man he loves. Meanwhile, Maisy-May (Julia Stiles) is dealing with a wildfire of her own: The return of her mother Mimsy (Lauren Holly), who claims she’s dying and wants to spend her final summer with her family on the lake. Billie (Madison Shamoun) returns for what is meant to be a one-week vacation. Her holiday changes after a gorgeous tree planter, Forrest (Jhaleil Swaby), and a fierce climate activist, Ivy (Max Amani), suddenly give her two reasons to blow up her summer.
A League of Their Own S1
Their game, their rules. Amazon Original series A League of Their Own evokes the joyful spirit of Penny Marshall’s beloved classic, while widening the lens to tell the story of an entire generation of women who dreamed of playing professional baseball, both in and outside of the AAGPBL. The show follows Carson (Abbi Jacobson) and Max (Chanté Adams) and a new ensemble of sharp and hilarious characters as they carve their paths toward the field, along the way finding their teams and themselves.
Deadloch
From the wickedly funny minds of Kate McCartney and Kate McLennan comes the eight-part crime comedy, Deadloch. The Tasmanian town of Deadloch, a once sleepy seaside hamlet, is left reeling when a local man turns up dead on the beach. Two female detectives are thrown together to solve the case: Fastidious local Senior Sergeant Dulcie Collins and a rough as guts blow in from Darwin, Senior Investigator Eddie Redcliffe along with their overeager junior constable Abby. As the town prepares to launch the annual arts, food and culture event – Winter Feastival – the trio have to put their differences aside and work together to find the killer.
Harlem
From writer Tracy Oliver (Girls Trip), Harlem is a comedy following four stylish and ambitious best girlfriends in Harlem NYC, the mecca of Black culture in America. Camille is a popular young anthropology professor at Columbia with extensive knowledge of the dating norms of many cultures, but has a hard time navigating her own love life; Tye is a successful, queer dating app creator who prefers keeping vulnerability—and romantic partners—at arm’s length; Quinn is a hopeless romantic and trust fund fashion designer who is trying to give back to the world while running a struggling business; Angie is a confident, vibrant, and filter-free singer and actress who also lives rent-free and fabulously with Quinn. Together, they level up from their 20s into the next phase of their careers, relationships, and big city dreams.
Tampa Baes
Meet the Tampa Baes: The young lesbian “it-crowd” navigating and celebrating life in Tampa Bay – Florida’s LGBTQ+ hub and the place to see and be seen. Always ready for an adventure or a good party, this group of loyal friends – and sometimes more than friends – is ambitious and unapologetic while constantly battling stereotypes and labels. With all eyes on these fun-loving women at this pivotal moment in their personal and professional lives, there’s not a challenge or hot-button issue they won’t tackle, even if it means getting real with each other. The Tampa Baes include Ali Myers, Nelly Ramirez, Shiva Pishdad, Jordan Whitley, Marissa Gialousis, Summer Mitchell, Cuppie Bragg, Brianna Murphy, Haley Grable, Melanie Posner, Olivia Mullins, and Mack McKenzie.

Emily Blunt stars in Prime Video‘s upcoming Western Series, THE ENGLISH. Here’s a look at the new Trailer!
Synopsis:
The English is an epic chase Western, from award-winning writer and director Hugo Blick (The Honourable Woman, Black Earth Rising, The Shadow Line). The series takes the core themes of identity and revenge to tell a uniquely compelling parable on race, power, and love. An aristocratic Englishwoman, Lady Cornelia Locke (Emily Blunt), and a Pawnee ex-cavalry scout, Eli Whipp (Chaske Spencer), come together in 1890 middle America to cross a violent landscape built on dreams and blood. Both of them have a clear sense of their destiny, but neither is aware that it is rooted in a shared past. They must face increasingly terrifying obstacles that will test them to their limits, physically and psychologically. But as each obstacle is overcome, it draws them closer to their ultimate destination—the new town of Hoxem, Wyoming. It is here, after an investigation by the local sheriff Robert Marshall (Stephen Rea, The Shadow Line) and young widow Martha Myers (Valerie Pachner, A Hidden Life) into a series of bizarre and macabre unsolved murders, that the full extent of their intertwined history will be truly understood, and they will come face-to-face with the future they must live. The series’ ensemble cast includes Rafe Spall (The Salisbury Poisonings), Tom Hughes (A Discovery of Witches), Toby Jones (Marvellous), and Ciarán Hinds (The Terror).
The English is produced by Drama Republic Ltd, a Mediawan company, and Eight Rooks Ltd. The series is created by Hugo Blick—who also serves as an executive producer, director, and writer. Emily Blunt also serves as executive producer, alongside Greg Brenman (Peaky Blinders, The Honourable Woman) for Drama Republic. Colin Wratten (Killing Eve) serves as a producer on The English. Global distribution is handled by All3Media International.
THE ENGLISH arrives on Prime Video November 11, 2022.
