“The Final Score, “ a featurette about Indiana Jones Composer John Williams’ 42 year/5 film history with the iconic franchise, is now available, along with footage of the legendary five-time Oscar® winner’s surprise performance conducting three of his compositions from the score of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny before the U.S. Premiere June 14. The selections included the renowned “Raiders March,” which he wrote for the first film in the series, and “Helena’s Theme” a track he composed for Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s character in the new film. Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, starring Harrison Ford and Phoebe Waller-Bridge, directed by James Mangold, will open in theatres on June 30, 2023.
Harrison Ford returns to the role of the legendary hero archaeologist for this highly anticipated final installment of the iconic franchise– a big, globe-trotting, rip-roaring cinematic adventure. Starring along with Ford are Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag”), Antonio Banderas (“Pain and Glory”), John Rhys-Davies (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Shaunette Renée Wilson (“Black Panther”), Thomas Kretschmann (“Das Boot”), Toby Jones (“Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy”), Boyd Holbrook (“Logan”), Olivier Richters (“Black Widow”), Ethann Isidore (“Mortel”) and Mads Mikkelsen (“Another Round”). Directed by James Mangold (“Ford v Ferrari,” “Logan”) and written by Jez Butterworth & John-Henry Butterworth and David Koepp and James Mangold, based on characters created by George Lucas and Philip Kaufman, the film is produced by Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Simon Emanuel, with Steven Spielberg and George Lucas serving as executive producers. Indy (Harrison Ford) is back and once again is in a race against time. This time around he’s attempting to retrieve a legendary dial that can change the course of history. Accompanied by his goddaughter, Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge) he soon finds himself squaring off against Jürgen Voller (Mads Mikkelsen), a former Nazi who works for NASA.
Director James Mangold has kept intact what’s made this franchise which Steven Spielberg built and made so popular but added his own flair. For those familiar with his most recent films, such as Ford v Ferrari and Logan, you’ll see the shift. And just like in prior entries, the action sequences are fast-paced humour-induced joy rides.
The thrilling opening of Dial is set back in the ’40s during WWII. A younger Indy (Ford but using de-ageing technology) finds himself on a train full of Nazis attempting to retrieve an old relic. When he realizes it’s fake, his pal Basil Shaw (Toby Jones) discovers that the Dial of Destiny is on-board. The two set their mission to steal the dial from the Nazis and Jürgen before it gets placed in Hitler’s hands. As expected Mikkelsen is fantastic as the villain. He plays Jürgen with a sense of superiority that intrigues him. He’s truly a masterclass in acting, excelling in the many franchise villain roles he’s taken.
After that scene, we jump forward to 1969. Unlike prior entries, Dial shows us a scruffy, aged Indiana Jones. We’re introduced to this seasoned version of him in his small New York City apartment. While music blares in the background, he bangs on his neighbour’s door to keep the noise down.
This different version of the beloved hero is inspiring. Ford looks like he’s having the time of his life back in one of his most treasured characters. He does give off the grumpiness that you’d expect Indy at 80 to have. But that’s where the zealous Helena evens him out. Waller-Bridge comes in with the ambition and energy that Indy used to have. She brings out that spirit in our beloved character again. Waller-Bridge is magnetic as Helena and nearly steals the entire show.
As this is the final entry in a cherished franchise there are always going to be people who are disappointed. Disappointed they have to say goodbye and disappointed that it didn’t end the way they expected or wanted it to. There will be some who feel that way about Dial. But overall, it’s a really fun and entertaining time at the cinema while paying homage to the Films that came before it.
Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny screens at Cannes ’23:

Fans can stream “Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark,” “Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom,” “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade,” “Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull,” and the television series “The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones” before the final installment of the beloved franchise, “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,” opens exclusively in theatres June 30.
“Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark”
In this first installment of the series, which was nominated for eight Academy Awards® including Best Picture and won four, archeologist-adventurer Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is tasked by Army Intelligence to track down an invaluable staff that is the key to locating the Ark of the Covenant, which is being sought by the Nazis.
“Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom”
After fleeing a nightclub shooting and being dropped out of an abandoned plane, Professor Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford), singer Willie Scott (Kate Capshaw) and 12-year-old Short Round (Ke Huy Quan) find themselves in a starving Indian village who blame their plight on the loss of three mystical stones that have always brought the village prosperity. Jones vows to return the stolen rocks — which brings him and his unlikely cohorts face-to-face with a deadly cult.
“Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”
There’s nothing more exciting than trying to keep up with the Joneses in “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade.” Indy’s Nazi enemies are back and have kidnapped his father, Professor Henry Jones, Sr. (Sean Connery), in their effort to locate the sacred Holy Grail. Following a trail from America to Venice to the deserts of the Middle East, it’s up to Indy (Harrison Ford) to save his father, save the Grail and save the day in this non-stop, action-packed adventure the whole family will treasure.
“Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull”
Famed archaeologist/adventurer Dr. Henry Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is called back into action when he becomes entangled in a Soviet plot to uncover the secret behind mysterious artifacts known as the Crystal Skulls.
“The Adventures of Young Indiana Jones”
At the dawn of the 20th century, Indiana Jones (Sean Patrick Flanery) discovered the world. From globetrotting family expeditions as a 9-year-old to the battlefields of World War I as a teenager, Indy’s experiences shaped the heroic, whip-cracking archaeologist he would become. At every turn, Indy encounters history in the making, meeting true-life activists, soldiers, writers, artists, and thinkers who helped influence the world we live in today.
